Sadly, we don't have any vets that will look at an avian. The only thing they know about are horses and dogs. They even had the nerve to tell me that I should take my strange pets elsewhere when I called to ask if they could do a check up on a water dragon. I understand if they can not see him, but there is just no reason to be rude like that. :x

The bird is doing well, his wing seems to be feeling much better today as he is moving it much more and it doesn't seem to bother him when he folds his wings up. He is still eating and drinking plenty. I am not worried about him surviving now, only what I will do with him!

I have a friend coming over to take a look at him tonight to identify what species he is. I'll decide what to do with him from there.

I'll keep with updated as I learn what is ahead of this little fella. :D

If you can post a few pictures I may be able to help. I used to be a vet tech specializing in exotics. I also know SEVERAL zoologists and wild life rehabbers. I have no doubts I could help you.
Be cautious about releasing the small one when the time comes if it's starting to imprint on you and other humans. This happens often with baby /juvie birds and even adults.

What's going on with the water dragon?

Thank you for the offer to help, that is very kind! I will have pictures up soon enough, most likey within the week.

The little birdy does not want me to get out of his sight, if I leave the room without him he gets very upset.
The birdy is very calm when I hold him he will clean his wings, look around, and chatter...I let my friend hold him last night while I was getting his food and he went crazy! He flapped and pecked and squaked like he was being attacked!

Maybe he is only used to me and not other people? Not too sure if that is good or bad.

He is still eating and drinking good and he is attempting to fly every now and then.

The water dragon had an infection in his mouth from cutting his mouth on a new cage and some of his bedding got in it. He is fine now, but has a scar on the top of his lip from where he was cut. Well, fine as in no longer sick...he still is a huge hyper cuddle machine to me and a nightmare to all my friends!

That's good and yet bad that it freaks out if someone else other then you tries to handle it. Good in that this little bird trusts you bad in that it clearly has imprinted on you. Sounds like this small one is your new little pet /companion.

Do you have a university near you or maybe even a small zoo?? If so the university will more then likely have a good exotic or avian vet there. Regardless of whether it's kept or released it still needs to see a vet. Most wild birds have small parasites that sometimes humans cannot see to well like types of mites. Not to mention overall health checks.

At this point it doesn't sound as though the small one is a release candidate anymore.

Good that all's well with the water dragon.

Glad to see the little guy pulled though! As soon as you identify it check the local/state laws on keeping a wild animal. I know my friends dad ran over a skunk and they took in its surviving baby. They had it for 2 years like a pet cat but had to put it down as soon as an officer of something-or-other found out about it >:(

Zed has a very good point as well about a vet. I have rescued wild birds as well and can never stress enough the importance of keeping sicknesses under control. I dread giving my pet bird or children something that could be avoided.

Ok, so I finally found out what the little guy is, he is a Brown Thrasher and in my state he can be kept if he must be. I'm glad to find out what he is, I still feel really badly about not being able to release him. In all honesty it would be hard to let him go now that I have grown so used to him!

I got him a very large cage that fits perfectly into my window so he can have a good view of the garden outside. I plan on bringing him out there once he is older and can run around on his own more. :D

I just found out that my step-grandfather is an avian and small animal vet, he agreed to come have a look at my little guy in about two weeks when he gets time off. Am I lucky or what!?

I want to say thank you to everyone that gave me tips and wished us luck, this little bird is one of the lucky ones; in one of the bird books from the library it says that only 5% of hand raised wild birds survive!

Now that I know he will be staying with me for (hopefully) many long years, he needs a name.
Off to think of a name for birdy!

We still haven't seen pictures of the little cutie...... I've always had a fondness for wild birds. I'm so glad it sounds like this one's going to make it! :D

My little one is doing very well! As soon as I figure out how to get pictures up here I will!

And yes! He is singing for me now. He has the most beautiful songs, I love walking into my room and hearing him sing. I got him a large, fake but realistic, tree. He loves sitting in it and looking out over my room. I can call to him and he glides over to where I am, since his wing is broken he does this little glide/fly when he needs to but usually struts around like he owns the place!

I decided to name him Cedric, as it fits him perfectly.
