Cenarion Exp. rep... why is it nerfed?

I've been trying to gain Cenarion Expedition rep to get the Hippogriph mount.
I run the dungeons, and do get rep, but... I get about one half to one third the amount of rep that my City Tabard gives me.

on bosses, I get around 100 C.E. rep, while city gives around 300. regular mobs give 7-8 C.E. rep, while for city rep it's 16-17.

It's probably because you're too high level for the dungeon. Once you stop getting XP for a dungeon, it halves the amount you get.

Provided you're over 70, the fastest way to earn this rep is to only bother to run heroics. That will give you the 15-17 you're used to. There USED to be a repeatable turn-in of Coilfang Armaments, but unfortunately, a few patches ago the item that would open this up was removed. No one knows why, since the items still drop.

I did this grind -just- the other day, took me about two days. Depending on your rep, you can do a number of things. If you under honored, grind up as many unindentifed plant parts as you can. Turn all of them in (Except for the special quest species) until honored. Once you can't use those any more, turn in the extra plants you saved.

From there, do as many of the CE quest hubs as you can, assuming you haven't done them. (I at the time had not. I was at Honored.) This means hit BEM, HFP, Zangar, and BT.

From there, you can either grind up ears from the BT mobs (I personally killed Minions of Kaw. Fast respawn, and I could pool together packs at a time.) or you can run heroic instances. I was doing normal Steamvault for about 13-14 points per mobs, 28 per bog lord, and about 100-150ish per boss. However, I did find a friend and we then swapped to heroics, gathering about 16-17 per mob, 33-34 per bog lord, and something like 200ish per boss. Depending on your gear, you might be able to solo the heroics. Since I was only level 80 at the time and in various Hyjal greens, I couldn't solo the Heroics. Luckily, I had Lupis' help.

Essentially, you either can grind ears or you can grind heroics.

I managed on regular Steamvaults...
I had been doing Underbog (simply because I KNOW it like the back of my hand, and can solo it easy).
I was, at first only interested in upping my City rep.. I wanted my Ambassador title.

I figured I may as well check how much C.E. I was getting and noticed how much lower it was.

Anyway, after running Underbog on heroics, I got my final point to up both Thunderbluff and Steamwheedle to exalted, so got my Ambassador title. There is some sort of glitch that stops rep for cities on regular dungeons at 20,999. You can't hit Exalted, you're always missing that single point. So even just entering Underbog on Heroic and killing one single beast gives you that missing reputation point.

Anyway, happy happy.. I DID get to exalted with C.E. as well! So now I get the beautiful hippogryph mount on that account too.

however, I'm curious why the city-tabard rep seems to be two to three times more than just regular rep in those dungeons.

I was getting rep for three different factions in Underbog, if I recall (I was sort of surprised, but pleased - I think some mobs gave Sporregar rep too, yes?).

anyway, I'm mostly curious as to why the city-tabard rep was so high. I was under the impression that initially city tabards would only give you reputation if the dungeon was your level, but it seemed either it never worked that way, or they changed it before I really got into using a city tabard.

There's at least one large chain in Desolace that offers cx rep now. Might be worth a few hundred at least.

Desolace is Cenarion Circle, not Cenarion Expedition (CE is the Outland faction).

You probably know this, but if you get exalted on both Cenarion Expedition and Cenarion Circle, you get the Guardian of Cenarius title.

hehe, yup, knew that.. but not quite sure how to go about getting the other Cenarion rep other than questing in Silithus. Is there a slightly more efficient way of doing it?

Define 'efficient'...
You can run AQ20/40 over and over, quest in Silithus (I think there's a repeatable down there too), and Felwood has some quests too.

I think that's it. But it's better than Argent Dawn is these days. @_@

Argent Dawn is actually super easy to farm. Take the repeatable quest of getting the book from Stratholme, then just run there, clear up to the cathedral, loot the book, turn it in, and rinse and repeat. You don't have the reset the instance so it stays cleared and you literally just run back and forth until you're Exalted. I finished it up the other day out of boredom and was relieved to find it was quicker than I expected.

The fastest way to grind reputation at level 85 is to grind through all the Twilight Hammer cultists in Silithus. Each one gives 10 rep and drop Encrypted Twilight Texts, which are required for the repeatable quest Encrypted Twilight Texts. It is possible to grind all the way through Honored to Exalted in less than 4 hours doing this.

NOTE: Make sure you always kill the roaming Twilight Prophets, as they drop 7 - 10 Encrypted Twilight Texts.

Back when I did it, you could use the Twilight clothing that dropped to summon bosses that also gave rep, but I believe that option is gone now.

As someone already said, farming Ahn'Qiraj is an easy way of getting Cenarion Expedition reputation.
I've just farmed Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj, cause it's easier, and I can't solo Temple.
And Ruins you can run every 3 days or so.
Plus, the first time you do it, you'll get a quest item from the final boss, that gives you a chunk of reputation too.

I don't know how familiar you are with Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, but there is one boss that can be a bit tough. The wasp one. But if you're multi boxing, it shouldn't be that difficult.

I just did Ruins and it's stupidly easy to dual-box.

it garnered me around 4000 rep with Circle, with the boss head quest.

next time I do it, I'll also do the quests given at the entrance. I presume those also give Cen. Circ. rep?
