The files in the first post are updated with most of the contents of this thread and the next patch will add the rest. :)

I have a few ideas for the Quilen. Forgive me if they're not that good. Wee bit tired. I'm going by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_guardian_lions to think of these emotes. They're supposed to be 'imperial lions'.

"Quilen is as still as a statue."
"Quilen puffs out his/her chest with pride."
"Quilen is as still as a statue, watching over his/her master/mistress protectively."
"Quilen lets out a loud roar at <enemy> aggressively."
"Quilen rolls over lazily, purring with content."
"Quilen lets out a loud yawn and shakes out his/her mane."

I've been thinking that quilen could use a lot of the cat emotes, minus the more playful and meowing ones (as they're more like stoic guardians than playful pets and I can't personally see quilen meowing :P) and ones that mention fur to better fit the stone ones as well. Emotes involving manes could still work for both. "Purr" can be replaced with "hum", "rumble" or "grumble".

To add a little to Jessibelle's suggestions:

Quilen sits still as a statue
-- with a proud look
-- watching the world go by
-- at ease with life
-- playing sentinel

Quilen stands still as a statue
-- watching his/her master/mistress protectively
-- ready to pounce
-- then relaxes again

Water stiders are proving troublesome for me :(

Water striders I can imagine are very troublesome, as there are two very different looks in the same family.
You could say "Stridey tiptoes around his master, pulsing with excitement" or something but Outland striders don't have lights on their abdomens.

More feedback: occasionally, there's no "and" or "at" on certain sentence creations.

"X stares <target.>"
"X pounces on a critter fades into the Spirit World."

and also, since I generally only use one or two of my pets for long periods of time, I think I've seen everything there is of spirit beasts. Although I'm ok with not having an obscene amount of different structures, sometimes it kind of spoils it when an emote does everything at once.

"X fades into the Spirit World in a huff, leans affectionately against his master, then reappears and snarls with anger before zapping a critter with a white beam of light and stares into the distance."

That was an actual emote I got once. Although it was very detailed and interesting, seeing smaller versions of that sentence (like the first 2 combinations or first and last) make it seem less unique.

I think, after the "alpha" or "beta" stage, an easy-to-use emote editor would be the best thing ever. People like me who are comfortable with writing their own emotes could do so, and change certain things like grammar errors, or unfitting behavior for their personal pets without affecting anyone else.

Tulcaondo wrote:Man I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Are the downloads in the OP up to date with peoples suggestions or do i need to edit them myself. I'm on a mac so going though 58 pages trying to find a way to edit is going to take a long time.

I can't wait to log in and see how this work, I'm guessing this really brings the personality to the pets. I saw someone state that pets can be changed to male/female is that in pet emote as well or other addons.
In the first post/OP there are my/our current writings. Those are the "custom files" I"ll refer to. On Curse, Efindel has been kind enough to take over and buff up the addon. The emotes included in the Curse version are the older ones. Basically, Curse has the nuts and bolts of the addon, plus the Creative New Stuff 1.0. The custom files on the first page of the post are Creative New Stuff 1.2. The custom files are just emotes, not the nuts and bolts. If you want the addon to work, you need the Curse stuff. If you want to add Creative New Stuff 1.2, you need the files on the first page, which I highly, highly recommend.
Soon, there will be Creative New Stuff custom files 1.3.
Eventually Efindel will add the Creative New Stuff to the Curse version, thus bringing the universe into alingment and the peasants shall rejoice.
I sincerely hope this makes sense. I just got up. :P

Hehe, yeah, don't I know it. That's another thing I don't have control of. If you look at some screenies I've posted of the emotes, you'll see the basic structure of them. They're all pretty simple. But, the program, to create variety, combines them. Sometimes this results in bad grammar and insanely complicated emotes. Its always been a giggle-worthy issue, but if it just did verbatim the simple emotes we'd all get bored rather quickly.
And there is an editor; Jorna the original coder-person made one. Except Efidenel, the new coder-person, doesn't know how to work on it. The editor is how I work on emotes and if it ever breaks, I'm screwed. :(

Also, I can post a copy of editor for you to use. Its really simple, but there's one thing to keep in mind. With the way this addon is made, its all or nothing. The custom files I post overwrite everything that came before them, whether I wrote it or someone else did. I wish there was a way to post stuff for just one family, but its the way its always been. Again, if this is something that can be changed, it will have to be Efindel that does it. As it stands now, its all or nothing. So, if you were to write something in your editor, then download, say, a "patch" we write with Quilen emotes, it will overwrite anything you've written in your editor. Make sense?

Also, this isn't a new addon. Its been around, with all its little quirks, for a long time. We've learned to live and work with them

Oh, and also, the water striders. Yeah, the Outland ones do have lights. Lots of them. Most likely I'll do something similar to sporebats. IRL bio-luminescent invertebrates communicate with light, like I have the sporebats doing. Light will be a big part of their vocabulary.

The sporewalkers and regular water striders also both leave small glittery trails behind them when they walk - it's a really cool effect, actually. :D

Wouldn't it be a relatively simple matter of copy and pasting all of my custom emotes back into the newest release's list?

Definitely like those! Yes yes! ^.^ And yeah, agreed. Minus the playful mewling ones...I'd see them more for purring, growling, or roaring. XD Grumbling works too, yes.

Quilen stands still as a statue
---eyeing a nearby critter. He/She knows it's up to something!

Waterstriders.....hmmm...

"Waterstrider tiptoes across the water gracefully."
"Waterstrider stands on the water's surface."
"Waterstrider chirps with delight."

That's all I got... ._.; For some reason, I'm imagining them making noises like the parasprites from MLP FiM

Sadly no. It would not. :( I'm sorry. The editor can be a bit clunky, and its not at all like a Word document.

In regards to water striders "chirping," that would absolutely fit the new tiny ones, but feels off for sporewalkers. The two sound completely different....hrm.

At least the organic quilen could conceivably stand like statues. ;)

They can both chitter, trill or buzz? Or, as the cicadas here are reminding me....drone

I'm not sure how to describe the sporewalker sounds, in all honesty. x_x They're just unearthly! More like hissing in many ways....but somehow, that doesn't capture the entirety of the sounds they make.

Chitter sounds like something chipmunks and squirrels would do. Water striders are far more insectlike than sporewalkers.

It is quite the conundrum. >_<

If there are no other words, though, chitter is probably the closest.

Yeah, I've been trying to think of the right verb for ages, even before this discussion - still no luck. xD Hopefully someday the two halves of the water strider family can be split so the regular water striders can squee, cause they totally do. :D

Since both leave trails, though....

"Water Strider circles her master, leaving a small sparkly trail in her wake."

Sparkle trails! <3

Hehe, sparkles! Wheee! *runs in circles with waterstrider* *cough* Um, yes, anyway. Like I said, light is going to be a big part of their vocabulary a la sporebat. The vocalizations....I need to stare at the thesaurus and hope for a new word to create itself I think...:?

That and I need to tame a Pandaria waterstrider. I haven't yet, and that will likely end up waiting until the real MoP. I've only had a chit-chat with the Outland variety.
