We are aware of the issue that is currently affecting the Children’s Week quest line in Dalaran which does not allow players who have completed the quest line last year to take part in it again this year. We do not currently have a fix planned to address this issue at this point in time.
To clarify, this issue won't be able to be resolved for Children's Week this year. If you completed the quest previously you won't be able to complete it again for the other pet this year.
I am very disappointed. I was trying to work myself up to do the incredibly annoying PvP achievements for this event, but without the carrot of a Curious Wolvar Pup I don't see any reason to even log in.
The little Wolvar pup would have gone beautifully with my hunter, and I didn't realize that until well after I finished the Oracle chain. I can only hope they'll make it available later in the year.
Just for clarification, you don't have to be friendly with Oracles/Frenzyheart to take their respective mini-pet. For instance, I am revered with Oracles but I wanted a wolvar pup pet, so that's what I did.
However, I believe the problem with this quest lies in the fact that the matron does mention that you can only help one of the orphans. I guess they meant, "You can only EVER help one of the orphans". As in you only get to do the quest once on a character. That was pretty vague, though, and I believe there are more than a few people who just learned this the hard way.
This is actually screwing my brother out of his achievement towards his proto-drake. He finished SW and Shatt's, not realizing Dalaran's wasn't also repeatable, and now has to wait another year for his proto-drake. He put in a ticket, hoping they can restore one of his whistles strictly for the achievement part, but I told him not to hold his breath. : /

If this is true, he'll be very happy. I think he already tried but that might have been the same night he finished the quest. I'll let him know and then let you guys know what we find out. Thanks for the tip, Saturo. I guess for a doorstop, you're not so bad after all. j/k!

I'm not too agonized about it. I got one on my hunter, one on my druid, and to be honest, I don't use either of them. On Fire I sue her red whelp, Azu her silver tabby...
I -am- disappointed I lost a chance for a new pet for achievements.
I love those oracle creatures. Always wondered if there's ever gonna be a tamable pet out of them. I know they're humanoids but, you know, hunter aspects. If we always wanted murlocs to be tamable (or heck, BE a murloc), maybe oracles, too.
And those wolvar pups somewhat remind me of humanoid raccoons.
For me this has been more than an annoyance.
It was/is a real disappointment. As someone with 138 pets, im a serious collector.
Besides the fact that It was an event that many of us had waited a long time for, and yes, paid $$$ for subscription for the ability to enjoy this fun game.
So why, a company that boasts over 1 billion dollars from this game along, is unable to do either of 2 things...
#1 Fix the problem. Im sure they have enough egg heads down there at Blizz HQ that could handle the code for this in an afternoon.
#2 Extend Orphan week to perhaps Orphan month until this can be resolved.
I know this may not be much to some people. But for some of us die-hard pet crazy people, well, it broke my heart to hear that Blizz had given up even trying to fix it.
Way to go Blizz and make me feel that a customer of over 5 yearsof the game, and a Blizz Store customer too, just isnt worth your time or bother.
But with how many million players there are in the game, i highly doubt Blizz would care about the bother it has caused some of us. Yes it was sooo looking forward to this week for over 9 months. They really dropped the ball.
Me and my lil Wolvar pup will now go and cry over the loss of our lil Oracle brother.... so sad. But its sadder that Blizz just doesn't seem to care.
My thought in this? They might be trying to keep the minipet achievements hard by trying to lower the amount of available pets, even if it means not fixing this issue. Just my thoughts tough.
I can see what you're saying Saturo, but I suspect that's a minor concern for them. It may be that, as someone else said, resetting those quests will let other people get both pets this year and they'd like to avoid that.
But I think it more likely that the expertise they need for a hotfix like that is busy with getting the F&F alpha up. I know I've been in situations before where we couldn't hotfix the live game because the normal procedure was all tangled up with a temporary situation like launching a beta.
I am not void of understanding that things take time and effort, But we are talking about Blizzard. A company with near unlimited resources to do this kind of thing. They can pay however many people as much as is needed. Honestly with boasting over 1 billion in sales per year on just this 1 game alone, I find it very hard to believe that "Its just too hard for them to fix right now.".
To a life long wow customer with some serious (IRL) $$$ invested into my pet collection, i just have to question the developers motivations to not find a solution OR at least lengthen Orphan week to Orphan month so they have got the time to fix it. Is that honestly too much to ask? To ask them to try? When im pushing into the top 50 pet collectors, WoW wide (Over every server, so that 50 people out of what 8 or 9 million players), You can imagine that its not a minor concern to me. Blizz needs to appreciate and look after their customers on this issue. Not push us aside.
As for making the pet achievement harder, that makes no sense when they release buy with $$$ pets from the Blizz Store. They are quick and easy pets anyone can get, So to screw over a potential how many hundreds of thousands of collectors and make it "harder" for them by not letting them do 1 quest they by all rights, they should be able to do, is something i wouldn't expect my worst enemy to do.
Plus their was an incident last year where a Holiday WAS reset completely after a few days of being into it, AND they lengthened the time that was originally set for it int the calender too. IF this can be done for that one (Trying my hardest to remember the one), Im sure it can be done here.
I didn't mean to imply that it was reasonable not to fix this, or really that it is a resource issue. But there is a potential bottleneck with Cataclysm F&F just now launching. Still, I would expect that Blizzard has ops people out the nose, plus multiple test servers and a decent dev -> live path. I've been wrong about that before, though. (*eyes SOE*)
My brother was able to get another whistle from one of the matrons. Evidently it's treated as a daily "quest", except you can only complete the actual pet-reward quest once. But you can still get a whistle that goes towards the achievements. He was quite happy, indeed.
Thanks so much Saturo!
