I name my pets after where I've tamed them, and/or something about them. I know, posibly basic. >.> But, hey, I like the names.

Examples (Using my Burning Blade Hunter, Wispquill)

Murktusk (Eversong green turtle)- tamed near the Eversong lake, looking down into it. Plus she has tusks.

Gauzecloud (originally Takk the Leaper) - She has bandages on her arms, and the night sky in the Barrens overhead was cloudy.

Tindergraze (an Elder Sringpaw) - Named due to her color, and the fact I tamed her on grass.

Oaktick (Silithid Ravager) - Tamed her in the mine in the Flats, near wood. Plus, she's a bug-like thing... <.<

Stormbramble (Mottled crocolisk in Dustwallow) - It was raining, and I tamed her among the weeds.

Garnet - Springpaw Lynx
Naming - In Medieval mythology, if a lynx were to urinate into a small hole, a garnet would appear in that hole after a while.

Inuka - Arcturis
Naming - Inuka is a polar bear that was raised in a chinese zoo. It's name is Inuit for "Silent Stalker".

Chrysocolla - Aotona
Naming - It's a type of gem, and Aotona's coloring is the same (speckles and all)

Once Cataclysm comes out with the endless stable slots, I'll be using the following;

Myca - Sporewing (brown Sporebat)
Naming - Mycology is the study of fungi. Sporebats live in a heavily fungal zone.

Spanner - Cataclysm Crab (red color)
Naming - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranina_ranina

Courtaud - <insert random wolf here>
Naming - based on a wolf that terrorized London, translated into Bobtail. I've used five different wolf appearances so far, mainly using the hell hound from Zul'Drak.

Not Tai'daishar, out of curiosity? If I remember correctly (and it's been a few years) that was the name of Rand's horse.~VelkynKarma
I thought his horse was named Jead'ean (and I know that's not the right spelling, but it's been a while since I dug those books out.) I found an Old Tongue Dictionary online that was very complete at the time it was written. It listed Daishar singly as "Glory." That's the best I can tell you. The dictionary treated the Old Tongue like a living language as best it could, but it was put up on the web well before all the books were published.

Laz's side:
Boannan (Rak'Shiri) - the name came from a list of Goddess Names I had stashed away and, by purest chance (as in, I rode right into her purest chance!) encountered the lovely Rak'Shiri as she was out on her mid-afternoon stroll. It simply means "Goddess of Stream, River, Lake" (Celtic) or "Goddess of Water" (Gaelic)
Tiberias (Loque'nahak) - named after the foreboding yet gentle mentoring character Jeremy Irons (Total God :9) played in Kingdom Of Heaven.
Griefstrike (Old Cliff Jumper) - originally the name I picked for my Worgen Rogue, he put me through four years of grief looking for him and like a striker, I found him on my old druid alt XD
Amenti (Araga) - its Egyptian translation (loosely based on a 5th or 6th Pharoah's age) simply means "Lioness Goddess"
Nightshade (Gezzarak The Huntress) - basing it on her deep purple/light purple/light green colouration, named for the poisonous plant, the Deadly Nightshade

Kas's side:
Ophios (Old Cliff Jumper) - one of the forms of Wepwajet, Ophios was called "the Gray Wolf Guardian of the Dead", the deceased's escort into Purgatory.
Qendresa (Amenti) - a simple Albanian name that means many things, amongst them 'Steadfast' (primary meaning), 'Central' & 'Standing Firm'
Tanzanite (Aotona) - she's named after the beautiful purple/blue gemstone, Tanzanite
Drachenstein (King Krush) - the name comes from mythology, German mythology to be exact. Bears a link to Seigfried. Hurnen Sifrit slayed a dragon bearing this title - the dragon himself was a hoarder of gold and precious gemstones
Stjärnfall - name graciously supplied by the lovely Gnomish Huntress, Saturo. Loosely translates into 'Meteor Shower', or 'Falling Star'

Tencents' Side:
Hercules (Old Cliff Jumper) - named after the ocean tug of the Star Fleet (TUGS)
Lillie (Araga) - named after the Lightship (TUGS)
Sunshine (Springpaw Cub) - named after the second switcher of the Star Fleet (TUGS)
Zebedee (Mottled Scytheclaw) - named after the harbour tug of the Z-Stacks (TUGS)

Hrm, it's possible he had more than one, they all cycle through a few horses. According to this wiki Tai'Daishar is his horse for the latter half of the series but only after that event. I dunno, they have sooooo many names and characters it's hard to keep track after a while!

But yeah, I was under the impression that Old Tongue was a fully developed (or near enough) language that Jordan developed for the series. Neat. It's not every day you meet another Wheel of Time reader :D

I have:
Shenzi (Hyena)- I named her after the female hyena in The Lion King

Kreature (Ravager)- Before I though of a name I just used to refer to him as the creature eventually I decided to call him that but to make it more interesting i changed the C to a K. I just call him Kre for short now.

Gizabite (Devilsaur)- well I'm a Geordie so Gizabite can be translated to Give-me-a-bite.

Twitchy (Silithid)- My dad helped me with this name because of the way he didn't stand still. He seemed very...twitchy :)

Barnaby (Crab)- one word OXHORN!

Mistral (Ghost Saber) - means "Northern Wind." I'd been using it for a snow leopard based character in another game, since the meaning is appropriate, so used it again here.
Silverbolt (Kurken) - Named after the white birddog from Beast Wars
Sieg (Devilsaur) - means "Victory." I chose it partly for that, as he was supposed to bring victory, but also as a secondary reference the T-rex-like Organoid from the Zoids anime was named Sieg as well.
Sandstorm (Hive Queen) - Originally it was Sandstalker, but I kept calling her Sandstorm anyways, so I went for a double-referance. The obvious WoW-related one is that she shares colors and model with the AQ wasps and boss, which is in the desert area. The secondary reference is Sandstorm was an Autobot in the original Transformers show who was the same colors and could turn into a helicopter.
Inferno (The Beast) - Obviously the name fits for a lava hound, but the other part is he was also named after a pyromaniac Predacon from Beast Wars.
Minsc (Polar Bear) - Was stuck for ideas at the time. GO FOR THE EYES, BOO, GO FOR THE EYES!

So, I'm not the only young woman who thinks he's a hunk? I think much of it has to do with his voice... <3

THANK YOU!!! I could remember Ed and Bonzai's names, but could not for the life of me remember the female's name. I don't even know why I was trying to remember anymore, but it really was frustrating because I enjoy that movie so much. lol

Danger - Icecrown cave wolf; Named that because I had loads of them on me when taming them, And my hp went *Danger*ously low.
Now called ugly cause.. He is. No offence wolfy lovers!
Jaiana - Rare Sholzar (Spelt it wrong.. I know.) cat; Used to be jet, Due to his jet black fur. Wanted to see if Jaiana is restricted (Alliance priesty NPC). Its either not restricted, Or I just spelt it wrong.
Shy - Winterspring Q mob; Well, Shy-Rotam is his name.. Soo.. *Cat screeches* Sorry! She.
Sting - Due to its waspyness. :P
Ssidss - Just out of randomness and its snake hissing.
