Guppet add-on question

Unread post by Sukurachi »

I am having a problem with the Guppet add-on.
And the strange thing is, I did NOT have this problem before, so something in one of the WoW updates over the last 6-9 months has broken this particular aspect of the add-on: it will not recognize my Seahorse when I am in Vashj'ir.

Has anyone else who uses this add-on figured out a way around this problem?

If not, does anyone have any suggestions for other add-ons that had the same functionality?

I love Guppet because it takes care of summoning my non-combat pet, it selects a mount appropriate to an area (ground where flying prohibited, for example), let's me choose which mounts I prefer (I can select all my mounts, or just check off those that I like to randomly use), and it's incredibly easy to use... I have it keybound, and pressing shift+my keybinding forces a ground mount.

I would die if this add-on weren't available in MoP, and sadly, I think this will be the reality of it.

I've noticed that issue with Vashj'ir myself, but sadly I have no idea how to fix it. At most all I know is how to manually add new/missing mounts. I do hope someone picks it up though, it's been my favourite addon for years.

I only find that it does not use the seahorse when I'm at the bottom as it will choose a ground mount but if I swim up a bit it fixes it's self.

I've been trying it floating in the middle. nothing works. I keep getting the red "cannot equip" message. (or whatever it is.. cannot sue this mount or something, anyway...)

Why would you want to sue a mount?

-- Anyway, what exactly is Guppet for? Random mount chooser? I have a different addon that doesn't have this issue...
Hopefully, they'll find the error and fix it, but if not, there are always other options out there, if worst comes to worst. :c

The addon I use is called RandomCompanion, that makes it so you can make a macro for summoning a random minipet, and a macro for summoning a random mount, as well as letting you make some mounts/companions more likely or less likely (or not at all by setting it's "weight" to 0)

I've been using RandomCompanion in live, but it will obviously will not work in MoP without an update, as it uses the current pet/mount UI.

Though there are certainly alternatives, I've never found an addon that encompasses all the unique little features that Guppet has. I just adore it, and I'd be very sad to see it die out.

It has a great interface with plenty of options to customize exactly which mounts and minipets you want to use, a nice rotating preview of the models, when and where to use them, a built-in collection list, among many other features.

Yes, Guppet does more than call forth a random mount/pet.

It allows you to select a group of either mounts or pets, or even a single favorite, and consistently summon those.

It also automatically selects a ground mount where flying is verboten, and it USED to select my Seahorse when I was in Vashj'ir (which appears to be one feature that is broken now).

It doesn't require you to create macros to use. Just check a box, and voilà, it's done. That pet/mount will be summoned.

For example, I love my Tol Barad wolf. I use it everywhere, especially in cities, even where flying is permitted.
And I love my White Dragon mount (50 mounts reward), and my Cenarion hippothingy (I HATE spelling that word...).

So, on my main, when I press my Guppet hotkey (the "-" on my numpad, in my case) I get one of my two selected favorite flying mounts. And if I press shift and my hotkey, I get my Tol Barad wolf mount.

But on my alts that don't have those mounts, I have different mounts selected. It's easy to set up. You can have as many different set-ups as you have toons.

And Tsuki:
LOL
I have dyslexic fingers I think.

I am trying a new add-on called Livestock.. it SEEMS to work the same way as Guppet, a slightly simpler interface.

I'll let you know.

The thing I really like about RandomCompanion that those screenies seem to suggest GupPet doesn't have is the ability to adjust each pet's frequency of summoning.
I also like that RandomCompanion learns new mounts and pets automatically, without having to be updated.

can RandomCompanion be set to always call the same pet/mount?

I don't particularly care to have all my mounts coming out at random. I really hate a couple of my mounts, so I'd rather not see them.. ever.

So far, I'm loving Livestock. It seems to work well, like Guppet DID. now, is it going to be kept up-to-date, is a completely different question.

You can set RC to automatically summon the most recent pet. As for mounts, you can set all the mount frequencies to zero except for your current favorites. But I'm not sure it will be updated for MoP...

happily, I just read that Livestock WILL be updated for MoP.

(and I just got - like 10 minutes ago - my Flameward Hippogriph. Yay me!)

Same here, it works fine for me. Did you try updating the toc file instead of clicking "Load out of date addons"?

Question about Livestock (since I know Guppet will be deader than dead come MOP), does it allow you to weigh the list of mounts or companions? For example, I don't want to ride Armored Brown Bear, want to ride White Polar Bear only occassionally, and want to ride Big Battle Bear a lot more. So with Guppet I set slider bar on the first mount to zero, the second to maybe half way, and the third all the way, so that the third mount will show up a lot more and the first won't at all. That's the one feature I really love that I haven't seen in any other addon, and it's why I've stuck with Guppet this long. Or does anyone know of an addon with this feature?

I don't think it can do that, no.
but it is very precise about where you can use which mounts.. you can, for example, select a specific mount for an exact region, and another for another region. so you might use your wolf mount in Orgrimmar (represent!!!), and your Thanksgiving Turkey mount elsewhere (lord knows why, but it's an example), and one of your Blizz. Store purchased mounts whenever you visit Thunderbluff.

PBC, that's exactly what RandomCompanion does, but I doubt it will be updated for MoP. So I'm in the market for an add-on that does weighting as well.

Thanks Sukurachi, maybe I'll consider that in MOP if no one comes out with a weighed mount/pet addon. Better than having it pull randomly from my entire list.

Gorman, I'll check out RandomCompanion - who knows, maybe they'll end up updating it for MOP. I just don't have any hope for Guppet updating since it's so out of date.

Hmm, this seems totally crazy, but of all my addons, Guppet is the only one still working on day one of 5.0.4. Go figure!

Really? It completely broke for me, I couldn't get it to display or do anything even after loading out of date addons.

EDIT: Hrm, I got it to work...kind of, but I get the big GupPet arrow button smack dab in the middle of my minimap and I don't think there's a way to move it. :( I think it's the button that normally showed up on the mounts/pets window, but since those interfaces changed I wonder if it's just appearing there. If I could just get rid of that I'd be happy to keep using it. I mean, I can click on it and it works, but I kinda need to see my minimap. ._.
