What has happened to the quality we use to have?

Unread post by The huntress »

So it has been a long time since I have camped a pet, but I am trying to help my husband camp a pet or two and I remember when I was camping if there were multiple people we waited in line. If you were there first and another person came along they kindly stepped aside if it popped out. Where had this gone? My husband has been sitting on the bear all day another guy has been logging in and out every few hours so he knew my hubby was there all day. Long story short my husband looks away from the computer for 2 seconds looks back and this guy was taming the bear, finished and flew off! Has the hunter class just gone to non caring poo heads? Or is it the game as a whole is attracting more people that just dont care about others?

Assuming "the bear" is Arcturis, the first one on my server was killed due to selfishness. This is sadly nothing new. :/

Yeah thats him, but it seems to be the norm now when I was camping him back in 2010 people were happy to help and take turns :( Now with this cross server crap its gonna be a long wait.

Nope, that's pretty normal. It's actually pretty rare for people who are after the same thing to just step aside and let someone else tame it...Sad as that is.

I would never try to screw anyone out of a tame but if someone was afk when a rare spawned I'd take it. Rares are about luck as much as effort and I don't feel entitled to a rare above anyone else just because I camped it longer. If I'm away from my computer and someone else takes it that's totally fair. I'd wait longer than 2 seconds if the afk person was there before me though.

When I was camping Aeonaxx I became friendly with several fellow campers and we all agreed that if he spawned we'd all do our best to be the first one to him with no hard feelings towards whoever got lucky. I don't see anything wrong with that. I wasn't online when anyone got theirs but when I finally got Aeonaxx all the campers in the zone were very gracious and congratulated me. I saw one of them in Hyjal 4-5 days later on their brand new PSD and was so happy for him. As long as no one is actively trying to screw anyone over competition can be a friendly thing.

I don't know how they do things on Aman'Thul or whichever server this occurred on, but most people on mine have never followed a line or a "take a number" approach when it comes to camping rares for any reason, be it for taming or killing for loot. Most have the FFA (Free For All) mentality, myself included, where the first to find and engage a rare gets it. Anyways, sorry your hubby didn't get him, but at least he knows when he last spawned and has an idea of when to look again for him.

I've only seen a "sharing is caring" approach happen once. In all of my time on WoW from vanilla to the end of Cataclysm, and that was towards the end of BC when Corehounds could be tamed. Being on Moon Guard at the time, I went to the cave to tame the... whatever the white corehound is. The only one that I found mildly appealing at all. I went inside and found a line up of hunters from both factions. And, using a system of pointing to distinguish order, proceeded to get in line and with hunters on both factions talking to the newest people to come into the cave, set up an orderly fashion to tame the mob... Anyone who went out of turn got their tame shot until they got in line and behaved. xD And trust me, when you anger 15+ hunters (yeah there were a LOT of us), there's no way you can break the order and expect to succeed. Especially not against a low level mob.

I've seen a lot of sharing on Suramar--even had a rogue whisper me asking if I wanted Skoll, which gave me warm hunter fuzzies even if I had to decline.

And the one time I saw Skarr killed? All of the hunters were taking turns. Both factions. One person died, another stepped up. The person that killed it was actually...a warrior, that was well known for being a general douche.

Oh xD Yeah. I've had lots of people whisper me and ask about tames, and I've rehomed plenty of rares. But in general "sit there and take your turn"-ness... Haven't seen that in years :/

I see the same quality I saw in the beginning of my time playing, to be honest, and that was way back in Vanilla. Players have always been a mixed bunch. I've met my fair share of generally mean-spirited and careless fools, but to be honest, the nicest players I've met have been the ones I've run across more recently. More than anything I ran into helpful hunters in the Molten Front, and at least from what I saw, they really took turns and did well. Honestly, I only think I saw really brutal fighting over rares… back in Wrath, I think. Every now and then I saw a little in the Molten Front, but it wasn't bad.

I don't know. I always glorify the past but honestly, I don't know if it was really that much better than now. It's just easier, with nostalgia, to add a sparkle to something that never had a shine in the first place.

I've actually come across more pleasant hunters in Cataclysm, because I've started making an effort to chat with those I see camping the same thing I'm after. It passes the time, it keeps both parties informed, and it's how I got Karoma (even if I later released her ._.). I still don't trust fellow rare-mount campers with information unless they really prove themselves, but these days it only takes a fellow hunter being a decent person for me to tell them, 'Hey, I got this at X time.'

I've had mostly good experiences with other hunters. I met several friends in hte MF while camping from both factions. The only time I saw any griefing was when I was helping this alliance hunter tame Deth and this jackass Horde DK killed him. I was pst'ing him the whole time asking him to stop and he was basically just a douche. Other than that people have generally been really nice. Oh, and this one alliance druid thought I was about to tame Skarr so he killed him in front of me and then /laughed at me. That pissed me off so I pulled out my Skarr, killed him, and /laughed right back at him. Karma's a bitch ain't she!
