Random Pet Challenge [v4.0]

Hey, just wanted to post to say that I do plan on completing my pet tame here for Letaa. It just might take me a while 'cause I've been having fun leveling (and focusing on) my main hunter for the time being.

Nani was tasked with this time.

These guys are easy enough to find; I opted to tame one from Westfall. A lot of people are out questing right now what with the new expansion so it was a little tough to find one at level 12 for me to tame, but eventually one respawned.

There's nothing special to the tame so nothing to report there.

Named this guy Porky because I had just gotten back from the eye doctor and was feeling too lazy to think of a better name.

Boy his model is starting to show its age next to my panda. Still, I've always found boars charming though this one wasn't really connecting with me.

Looks wise, boars are actually pretty solid for such old models.

His fur is a nice sort of peachy color with some neat brown and red stripes and a neat little red mane. His snout is dark brown and there appears to be grey under his eyes, both of which look kind of odd. He has tiny, beady little black eyes. His biggest flaw, imo, is that his mane is flat and 2D and looks very pixellated. He's also a little boxy, but that doesn't bother me too much.

Boars have a couple of different, very adorable, idle animations. One of them is to wave their head from side to side.


The other one is a two-part animation that starts with them wiggling their butt in the air and then sort of flattening themselves out like a puppy in the "play" position.



Both the boar run and swim are really cute. Their run is one of my favorites since it just looks like they're trying so hard to keep up with you and they just sort of fling themselves forward. xD

Their swim is what I like to call a piggy paddle and they sort of look like they don't like being in the water much.


Boars are pretty hardy little combatants, letting out high pitched squealing noises when you send them into combat. It doesn't bother me much but might get on some people's nerves. Boars have also acquired a new, much more beneficial (as in it applies to a greater amount of people), family skill. Gore: Your boar gores the enemy, causing it to take 4% increased physical damage for 30 sec. This is very useful in a PvE environment for all of your melee friends. Theoretically it should increase the damage of autoshot as well.

Boars have two fighting animations. The first is to swing their head in an upward motion with their tusks, and the second is a bite attack.



One thing really interesting I noticed about Porky is the way he looks on the loading screen (since all of that SSAO and whatnot is active there).

It's like a totally different pig!

Despite my normal love for boars, I just didn't feel the love for Porky tonight (see what I did there? ;P). Something about him just didn't feel right for little Nani so I let him return to his home out in Westfall.

So my assignment was
Sorry, no screenshots. I forgot to take some. :/ But I did find where they were hiding. To make up, I ran Battle for Hyjal with him tanking.

I wanted to make this one a bit special. I've always loved the seagull model, I found it humorous, and wanted to tame one. I could just not bond with one. But then came 'MINE'.

Recently becoming a pandaren, from a Night Elf, I wanted to either be my last elf tame, or first Panda tame. It was my first panda. Me and my purple shale spider, my main PvP pet named Violet, headed out to TB. I thought about doing dailies so I brought my water strider, Squishy, for the water walking. On my was to kill some villagers, I remebered I had to tame this bird. I clicked it and found it it squawks like a seagull. It retained that after taming, and it made me smile a bit. After doing my dailies, I hooked up with my DK and shammy buddy. (he had a hunter alt and I gave him blue Madexx and Kirix the other day) we headed to Caverns of Time to do some random dungeons, while we were there, I decided to see if we wanted to do Battle for Mount Hyjal. They almost needed surgery from laughing when I said "This bird will tank. Just heal him" and I specc'd MINE into tenacity and let the waves come. Turns out, he didn't need healing. Like, at all. He would not die. It blew my mind. After the first boss, the shammy went to his Druid to continue leveling, leaving me and the DK. We did fine without a healer until the boss before Archimonde, where we just stopped. MINE impressed me very much in those raids. It wasn't fast boss kills, but he defiantly did his role.

Anyways, one to the model. I like the model, personally. Beside my pandaren, he looks a tad small. He didn't grow or shrink when I tamed, but meh. People will be too busy laughing in PvP when a seagull comes after them. I like how he squawks when clicked, it amuses me in my spare time. His swimming animation was just the same as flying.

His DPS output is fine, I have no problems with it. Since he's not exotic, I can use him when I go into survival.

Overall, MINE impressed me very much, espically in Mount Hyjal. I think he's earned a permanent spot in my stables, just for soloing. But now he has to compete with TimeLost(Terrorpene) as my tanking pet. Glad I finally bonded with such a humorous little thing.

This particular guy is found in the front caves as you approach the outside of the Wailing Caverns area (located in the Northern Barrens, just south of Crossroads). I forgot to get a shot of me taming him, but it's nothing real special, you just need to clear a few mobs in the area if you go in there around that level. This is Crackle after the tame:

Reptiles look really good next to my panda for some reason. xD

I took Crackle with me to safer, non-Horde infested lands to get a better look at him.


This skin is always sort of hit and miss for me. I like the orange/burnt orange tones, but the mint green/light teal stripes and feathers kind of bug me. Other than the strange coloring, this guy actually has a really solid model, the only real major "error" is the floppy 2D head crest. One could make an argument about the scale feather things on the wings; they're... just kinda weird. Um, yeah, can't really think of anything else to say about their looks; wind serpents have aged really well and the more I look at these screenshots the less ugly I think this skin is.

Wind serpent's run animation is sort of an undulating, frantic flying motion.

It's... well, it's kind of an odd movement. I think it might be one of those goofy ones Blizzard did where they just sped up the walk animation because the wind serpent run can get a little disconcerting after a while.

Wind serpent's swim animation, however, is amazing.


They look like they were made for the water. They slither and glide through the water with the wings tucked close to their sides. Definitely one of my favorite swim animations.

The wind serpent special ability is Lightning Breath, which increases the magical damage taken by an enemy by 8% (they share this with dragonhawks). This ability is most useful in groups for PvE that are heavy on spell casters, although wind serpents also make great pets for SV hunters as their debuff will buff SV's damage from serpent sting and explosive shot.

Wind serpents have two attack animations, both of which look really nice. The first is a nifty little tail slap


And the second is a swoop and bite.


Overall wind serpents make really solid pets that look good and have nice animations. I tend to end up with them over dragonhawks even though I'm fond of both pet families. However, Crackle just did not click all the way with Nani so I let him go back to the wilds.
