Pet trades
So during my Loque hunt I ran into another trainer who had him and so we started talking. Turns out she had 2 loques in her stable and was actually hunting Aehona...(the blue parrot in same area. I know I spelled it wrong lol.) Well I did have that pet so we decided blizzard should let chars after a certain level trade their pets. What do you guys think.

Re: Pet trades
the idea of just getting to trade whenever you like may seem fun at first but loosing a loyal bond with your pet really worth it?
like i find the hunt more fun for my pets
yes yes i do also make gold off it but i do not ask for it, say blizz did this people would offer gold for pets would they not
its a debatable system with alot of pros and cons to go with it

Re: Pet trades
I'd thought about this for awhile -- although more in the sense of "Perhaps we could make one of our own hunter pets into a mini-pet! And then maybe we could give it to non-hunters!"
Anyway, I ended up very worried that being able to transfer pets in any sense would end up putting a monetary value on certain pets. In other words, a hunter might specialize in taming Aotona and then 'trading' him to other hunters for any other pet + 15,000 gold. On the one hand, if you had the gold that might make Aotona easier for you to get for yourself. On the other hand, that would add another complicating factor for taming him if you preferred to tame him yourself.
Of course, some people already charge hunters for the location of a rare, or for not killing said rare. But that's a lot more chancy than a trade you could arrange at any time in Trade chat -- and a lot less profitable. So I am worried that the additional profit would drive antisocial behavior.

It's never occurred to me to tame two of the same skin on the same toon.

Re: Pet trades
This would be my prediction. I guarantee that we'd have insane competition at all rare spawn sites. No more taming Aotona/Loque/Gondria/whomever by yourself, it'd be a business, complete, I suspect, with goons to harass hunters that wouldn't want to buy their pets. I sincerely hope Blizz never implements something like this.Mania wrote:Anyway, I ended up very worried that being able to transfer pets in any sense would end up putting a monetary value on certain pets. Re: Pet trades
thats not always teh case me and 2 others on my realm hunt rares for people now we dont do it for gold its normally good farming time for us or pvp-ing, i personally like messing with botsRedith wrote:WOW people do that? now for me people will offer me 5k gold for say finding loque and making sure they have it tamed now i dont ask for that gold what so ever they come to me and say ill give you 'this much' if you find me 'this pet'
unfair?
to me yes i never accpet the gold they nag and nag and follow me around for days until i take it ( i had one of them doing it for a month before i caved D:)
and if i dont take their gold they buy ALL my items from AH -.-
and again like i said before there are pros and cons to it (ill name 2)
pros; you dont have to waste 10000 of hours looking for something, you can give a alt a pet though someone
cons; people will abuse this and make money outta it, mass tames = less rares out there
now judging from blizzs last few moves in teh game i really doubt they would ever do this unless they have really lost it and really do intend this game to be played by 2 year olds ¬.¬ cas 5 year olds can play it so why not lower the bar just that little bit more

Re: Pet trades
it also means hackers would target people with rare pets.clearing out stables like guild banks, selling your pets instead of simply abandoning them, making it even harder to get them back once you recover your account...

Re: Pet trades
I hadn't even thought of that but yes, it makes sense. That's a very easy and quick turnover.mpd_84 wrote:it also means hackers would target people with rare pets.clearing out stables like guild banks, selling your pets instead of simply abandoning them, making it even harder to get them back once you recover your account...

Re: Pet trades
^ is probably the main reason that Blizzard would not allow pet trading, unless it was for specific pets, and with a cooldown along the lines of a realm transfer.
Re: Pet trades
I'm not interested in being BM any longer, just MM. I wish I could give my Skoll away to any hunter wanting him desperately. I never use it never even named it.
I think being able to catch and sell a rare is actually a good idea. People sell vanity pets and weapons - I don't really see a difference. Your pet is a weapon. It may seem like more because it's fluffy pixels with eyes but that's what it is. Hunter weapon. Like a bow or a polearm drop from a kill. They could make the pets BoE or soulbound on naming.

Re: Pet trades
Have a look at this thread - obviously not everyone shares your view. If they did, then yeah, it wouldn't be a big deal to be able to trade them. As it is, I'd wager a large proportion of hunters chose the class specifically because of the need to choose, find, tame, and train their pet. And if most hunters viewed their pets as nothing but weapons then why so many stable slots? After all, all we'd need is three - one for each pet spec. Number crunchers would quickly tell us which ones and we'd all have a wolf, a bear, and whatever cunning pet is the best at whatever it is they're good at (you can tell, I'm sure, how well read on that stuff I amGozu wrote:I'm not interested in being BM any longer, just MM. Re: Pet trades
Yea, your pet is NOT just a weapon, it's a part of your class mechanic. HUGE difference there. Pet trading is just a bad idea, and it would take away a ton of the flavor of the class. Plus, the ONLY reason to trade would be for rare pets, which when you get right down to it, is just plain silly. I had to wait a year to tame Loque. Would I have traded or bought him to have made my life easier? Hell no.

Lol.. I had 3 Loques at one point, with a storyline for each. Limited stable slots and new Spirit Beasts knocked it down to 1 Loque. Had two Skolls on my Draenei too, until she tamed Arcturis. /shrug
Yeh, I'm a weird girl

Oh, and about trading/selling pets? Even though the thought is nice sometimes, it's a bad idea. People want the easy way out- and some who have money think they can buy happiness... it cheapens the game and experience. Nothing feels the same as a successful tame of a well hunted rare. This is coming from someone who could have sold 20+ Spirit Beasts if they were Bind on Name or w/e. Wouldn't be worth the gold to me. Plus it is kinda weird. Like black market stuff.

*whispers* Yo kid... I got this great bunch of pets in my van- imported over from Sholazar and Storm Peaks- very rare and legally caught... *shifty eyes*

Re: Pet trades
To be clear, I'd still love to see this idea implemented. I'm just afraid it would have some unfortunate side effects.
