Not afraid to answer that any attempt to abandonment leads to a period of "no, no I can't" to "why am I doing this?!", which often remands me to a feverent clinging to the pet in question. Moar stable slots would most likely curb this behaviour.

This behaviour however varies between my hunters, but Lazona is definitely guilty of it on more than one occasion...

It depends for me, but mostly they're my babies. When I tame a pet it is rarely on a whim and they usually stick with me for a long time. They have their own developed personalities and storylines, and the thought of getting rid of some of them just makes my heart clench. Silinrul will never, EVER abandon Jiaphyon, even if she never uses him again; he's just too important to me. Same with Taigi and Jackson/Humar, even if I never use him in the endgame I'll still be attached to him.

As for pet deaths, depends. If it's unexpected--like if I'm getting swamped by a ton of mobs out of nowhere, and my pet valiantly comes to my defense and dies--I usually feel pretty horrible. Same in BG's. In Heroic runs, I'm not AS picky about it, especially during bosses. There are some bosses where I just know Felyndril (my white devilsaur and staple heroic pet) is going to go down before the end (Gundrak final boss, Skadi, etc).

Sure, I like my pets well enough. It's kinda funny, because there have been times when my GL (a resto druid, more like a friend than GL) will keep my wolf alive instead of another player. We always call out on vent, "no, Ruuuuufus!! " when his hp is going down. lulz.

But seriously, they're digital and it is a game... I find myself pretty detached.

edit- I have never and don't intend to RP. Maybe there's a difference.

I went with a few pet bonds but I'm realistic with them in general. I vaguely remember my first few tames. And there were the nameless pets that were tamed to train skills. The only real pet that I used at lower levels was the back wind serpent. It took me forever to get to where it was and finally live through the tame. That was back when I was new and didn't know all things huntery. I was so proud of doing my first real tricky hunter thing. I named it Saphira but later in BC dumped it because of the fail movie and people thinking I tamed it because I was a fangirl of it.

I really don't role play with them either but there are those moments when something funny comes up with a favored pet that makes me rofl. I enjoy them mostly because they match my hunters color scheam or a favorite non combat pet or even because the name is just win. I had Echeyakee on this hunter for the longest time and named it Pissykitty. I know if I had a cat irl it would be named that. My belf has the sapphire hive queen and I flip between Beedrill and MissAnnoying depending on what I feel like for the week haha.

I share some kind of bond with my pets, but I don't get emotional or anything over it. The pets I choose are based on favoritism, not optimal performance. I do my best to avoid letting my pets die, and may make a D: face, but that's about the worst of it. I know they'll come back, even if a little bit unhappy.

I'm sort of meh about it.

If I need the stable space, I can let the pets go without much drama unless it's a spirit beast. Mostly use the pets for role playing, but that's where the bond starts in the first place.

I'm attached to mine. I RP but maybe not as much as others, and there are pets I will NEVER let go, just because there is some sort of sentimental thing behind it. Tetsusaiga has been with my hunter for about five years. Even though I don't use him much anymore, I remember all the awesome times we had with my brother and his pets, and how proud I always was to see him by my side. I just can't ever let him go. Then take Apollyon, my King Krush. I lost many hours of sleep after losing him the first time (I was so upset I just could not sleep), and I even dreamed about taming him. When I finally got him it was the most awesome feeling ever. Then I had Loque'nahak for a bit and decided I'd rather get Gondria, so I abandoned him. Well it wasn't too long after that I horribly regretted doing that and missed having him by my side, so Tilo and I spent 10 hours searching for him one night before I finally put in a ticket, and managed to find a kind GM to restore him. I was a very, very happy camper. I'm also rather attached to Sheldon, my turtle (in my avatar). While he isn't in my stables at the moment, due to stable constraints, I see him as kind of the "old friend" type of pet that's been around forever, and is light-hearted and easy-going, and is loyal to my huntress to the end.

My pets aren't tools or something that I can just abandon on a whim. They are my friends, guardians, protectors and companions; through thick and thin, sunshine and rain, til the end. :3 Does that make me a nerd? Probably, but I'm 110% ok with that.

I have a hard time letting go of pets, because I get vary attached. But I also have a hard time deleting characters, even a low level, if they have a personality and backstory. I've always had a huge imagination, and I think that really tied into this bond I share with my pets.

I know it's just a game.. and in reality, if I let a pet go I can always go retame it. But I still don't like doing it. I've struggled with pet choices since I started. I do really like the idea that Rhyela has, of the pet and you just taking a little break, but they are still your companions. Makes me feel a little better about letting Beardo (my Echayakee) go.

If my pet dies in game, I don't really feel that bad since I know I can revive them. But I also don't RP in game, which may have something to do with it. I feel a strong bond between Mali (Humar) and Ashiena, my huntress though.

As fond as I am of my pets, it doesn't really bother me when they drop. I take that like I take player death: It ain't permanent, and it's going to happen. I might get a little annoyed with myself for having not pulled him or her out of a situation they shouldn't have been in, but one heart of the phoenix/revive pet later, all is well.

I would have to say some of mine I have a serious bond with. Aelina I would never get rid of her even though at times I always am looking out at that new puppy lol. Raiden (Loque) is with me for life I couldnt even dream about getting rid of him nor Raito (skoll) and Aotona I couldnt let her go. Just because she meant so much for me to get with the heart break of trying to tame her once and seeing a stupid horde kill her right infront of me, to waiting an entire month before I saw her again. The only one who seems to still tug at my heart strings is Ceres and Teeka.. well Teeka is my Araga now.. like my favourite cat in the game and Ceres is Gondria.. who I got rid of to get Araga after spending 20 minutes staring at Araga. Now I am torn between the two.. I miss Ceres but I love having Teeka out because I can raid with her (my being MM spec for raids) so its kinda an emotional thing somethings. I even yelled at my guildmate when he said he killed a rare out from under a hunter. Killing rares even out in the wild is the hardest thing for me to do. So all in all, yes they are digital characters that arent real, but yes I still get attached to them.

I adore them like I do my stuffed animals. You know that feeling you had as a kid.. your toy takes on a personality and a life of it's own. It feels a little like that. I love them but not in a crazy way. They're sweet but in the end they are pixels and a weapon - if a better weapon comes out I would have to switch because I enjoy doing my best.

My real life pets are who I cry for, feel deep bonding love for. They are family. WoW critters are just my favorite toys.
