What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
First of all, Please don't be hostile. This could be a very touchy subject for some I'm sure.
I know that there are many people out there that kill rare beasts that hunters camp for days. Some even kill the beast AS the hunter is taming as their way of saying "If I can't have it, no one can" or something. Those people perhaps could be considered the bullies of WoW. Or at least one of them.
But what about people that kill rare beasts when there are no hunters around? What do you guys think of people that might want a rare drop off that beast or have it marked down for a rare kill achievement? Do we throw these people in with the ones that kill just to make hunters sad, or are they the exception?
Have YOU ever killed a rare beast when no one is looking?

Re: What are your views for people that kill rare beasts?
Deliberately killing a rare with the sole intention of depriving another hunter from taming it is low.
I have absolutely zero qualms with people killing rares if they find one themselves though, especially if it provides a drop, achievement, or experience. I do so myself on any alts I level because the loot and XP are most definitely worth it.
As long as someone isn't going out of their way to be a jerk towards another player I can't see how there's anything wrong with it. The rares are in the game for everyone, they will respawn, and if you feel that you can get something worthwhile from one then go for it. Those have always been my views on the matter.

Some rares I can't even make myself kill, like Spirit Beasts and some of the new, unique skinned beasties. But most I'll kill without a second thought, so long as no hunters are around.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
It's a very minor distinction and a very tough, if not impossible, one for non-hunters to make, but I'll certainly kill a rare pet as I'm questing if it's not unique-skinned.
While I understand some people would like to tame a rare version of a certain skin, that can just add to the challenge: that's why they're called "rare."
However, if the beast in question is something like King Krush, Sunwing, Terrorpene... I can't bring myself to do it. Just thinking of a hunter's crushed dreams makes me feel obligated to find those creatures homes whenever I find them.
So, tl;dr, it's ok for questers to kill pets, but they should ask around first if it's unique

I usually left unique skinned rare beasts alone, in case a hunter came by later and wanted to tame it. Otherwise, if no one else was around I found it so it's my loot.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
I'm not happy when people kill rare beasts, but I usually let it slide if they genuinely didn't know that a hunter wanted to tame it. If it's done purely for griefing purposes or to make hunters mad (which, sadly, I've witnessed others doing because they think it's fun), then I feel as if gameplay is being disrupted by rude players. I don't approve of people killing rares to laugh at the hunters' reactions. Or because it makes them feel superior. For the beasts that actually drop loot for other classes, I'm not happy with it, but I understand why the beast is killed. For beasts like Terrorpene, Madexx, or anything dropping a Tear of Loyalty, it's never okay to kill them.
Since I'm a (self-proclaimed) Beast-Alliance Ambassador, I don't kill rare beasts. If they're around when I run/fly by, I just greet them and leave them...well, unless someone like King Krush isn't in a good mood and runs after others while shouting, "YOU ROTTEN HUMANOIDS! GET OFF MY LAWN!" In that case, I just stay away from him.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
Rares are there for everyone. And if someone comes across a rare and no-one else is currently engaged with it, then its fair game.
Blizzard has taken steps towards detouring people from killing certain unique rares that were put there with hunters primarily in mind, but still gave a 25g trash item with flavor text for those that decide to kill the beast.
Sometimes I kill a rare for the exp/drop, other times I /salute it and move on, sometimes I seek a partner for the beast. Depends on the rare. I don't kill rares that drop the tear though.
Only time I have an issue with someone killing a rare is if a hunter is currently taming it, or camping to tame it. Then its more griefing, and I have little tolerance for that kind of behavior. I do not believe in the "if I cant have it no one can" attitude. It has no place in a civilized society, whether in-game or out.

When I'm leveling, I always go ahead and kill any rares I might find - unless I spot a Hunter nearby, in which case I'll make sure they're not interested in taming.
If I spot a rare that no longer gives me any xp (and if it doesn't have the chance to drop a transmog item that I'm after), I leave it there for someone who needs it.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
Looks like everyone here has slightly similar beliefs ;3 I totally agree with ya'll in the sense of not stealing from another hunter. I've had my fair share of people running by and one shotting a beast I was taming for no reason at all. Pretty annoying D:
As for me, I'm a Spirit Beast hunter. I don't tame them. I kill them. Hope that doesn't bother any one here XP But I would never kill one someone was taming or even waiting for. If a hunter comes by the spawn point I'm waiting on, I am more than happy to let that hunter tame. I'd rather see someone finally get that pet they want then a shiny trophy for myself.
I suppose I like the thrill of the hunt more with those rare spirit beasts instead of the thrill of the tame. Maybe I'm just weird
IMO, Hunters with intent to tame get first dibs. But yes, I agree rares are for everyone to enjoy.

Re: What are your views for people that kill rare beasts?
Pretty much this. Most of the rares(up until cata) drop items people can use/sell. Cata ones still drop a 25g tear(which is still a dumb idea....) and give extra xp. The Pandaria ones, luckily, no one can see but us and it's awesome.Vephriel wrote:Deliberately killing a rare with the sole intention of depriving another hunter from taming it is low.

As for hunters stealing from another hunter? No. It makes them the lowest scum of the earth and I will gladly rip a new one into someone that does stuff like that.
That said, I can't bring myself to kill a spirit beast. :< I had the perfect chance to kill Loque...he was in my sights but.....I lowered my bow and shook my head. I couldn't do it. I know how badly hunters want him. I remember my camps for him, how I love him so much.
Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
When a beast was made with hunters in mind (Madexx, Terrorpene, etc.) I would be slightly angry at that person. He did not get anything from it, while I would. However, when a rare beast is needed for something else (Jadefang, who drops a pet, or Northrend rares needed for achievements) I would understand and sigh, just like I do when I see Nasra Spothide dead at her post again.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
I always kill rare beasts, there's almost no one near me when I do. However, I have yet to kill a rare that is solely for a hunter tame.
People that find a hunter going after a pet and kill the pet and snicker then run off are dicks, but rares are there (mostly) for exp and loot, I don't see an issue with taking advantage of that on an alt. (Or a main if its for an achi etc)

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
I don't go out of my way to kill a rare unless it aggros on me and my FD is on cooldown or unless it is for an achievement that I do not have yet-like the northend ones.
If I am leveling and it is a low level rare-if nobody is around and I am I will kill it for the exp and low level gear for my lowbie-thats why they are there after all. They are not the sole property of the hunter community.
Killing a rare out from under someone who is looking to tame, I likely would not do-unless I'm super pissed at someone who was being a jerk. I'll be honest, I'm human, and if someone does me a wrong turn, I'll return it if they get me mad enough. I know it is just a game and yada yada yada-but if I have to play nice other people should too.
At least I would be super tempted. Usually it is better to let jerks just get it so that they are not there the next time you try.

I've been tempted too. We all have I'm sure. I wanted to kill Sunwing under the punk who stole the tame from me but in the end, it wouldn't have done me any good. He would be back later and would grief some more.Shade wrote:I don't go out of my way to kill a rare unless it aggros on me and my FD is on cooldown or unless it is for an achievement that I do not have yet-like the northend ones.

Re: What are your views on people that kill rare beasts?
If its a hunter pet rare, there's no point in killing it. I don't need 25g that badly and I would feel like a jerk. If its a regular rare and there's no hunters to be seen, I may kill, I may not. Depends on my mood, the character I'm on and the beast involved. If I'm leveling, of course I'll kill it like I would any other rare. That's alot of experience. I've also killed all the Northrend and Outland rares for the achievments. The only regular rare I'll never kill is the Darkmist Widow, because she's my buddy.
However, the world is not made of hunters. If someone kills something I'm after, I'll be sad, but that's how it goes. Unless they kill it while I'm taming. That's inexcusable and their GL will be getting an earful.

Usually I can remember that-and not kill the creature. And if it is already tagged, if you kill it while they are taming, can't they report your for griefing anyway?Junrei wrote:I've been tempted too. We all have I'm sure. Best to just avoid the temptation of killing the creature and just move on. You'll get it some day-I don't have to have them as soon as they are released if it means I have to deal with jerks stealing the tame. (I say that and then get so absorbed in camping it is ridiculous).

Yup...however they do end up getting a reputation, CRZ or not. It may take time to spread but karma does reward us for not giving in to temptation. x3Shade wrote:Usually I can remember that-and not kill the creature. At this point with Madexx, if there weren't any hunters who wanted, and it was not green, I would kill it to give it a chance to spawn in the unique green color. But I never go to Uldum anymore...
