PVP realms and leveling - abit ranty

Unread post by Castile »

Sorry if this is abit ranty but I wanted to get some other opinions.... please note I am only on a pvp realm due to my relatively new raiding guild moving there for recruitment reasons and have spent my wow time since vanilla on pve servers.

So thursday is my off night for raiding and i thought brilliant time to lvl my druid abit - big mistake!

I'm lvl 87 and a boomkin with horrible gear as expected with a lvling alt so im easy pickings. Getting ganked occastionally I've learnt to live with. Some lvl 90's just need to feel good about themselves for some reason and I'm cool with a few deaths in the field.

But last night for 6 hours (i kid not) everyone in the lvling zones of Jade Forrest and VoT4W was constantly getting ganked. All lvl 90's. All the time. I swapped to my 90 to kill one who'd killed me 4 times in a row but as soon as I rocked up they vamoosed! I swap back and BAM dead again.

90's in the area tried to help but as soon as you were dead they would swoop off to the next victim so theres was 0 time for the protectors to even try and defeat them.

So to those who play on pvp realms, is this the norm?? I haven't lvled on barth since release week which was less ganky due to everyone lvling and being in the same boat (plus most guildies were in the area to help each other). But I'm feeling very dismayed by last night. I don't think i completed a single quest without dying and my only relief came when my random dungeon poped lol!

very annoyed :(

From my experience on a PVP realm for 3 years that was the norm for us. I hated it and was glad when our guild decided to transfer and we picked a PVE realm. Didn't help that there were 3 times as many horde as there were ally so if the horde wanted something it was nearly impossible for any ally to do anything there without dying. Being on a pvp realm after a while meant I was really good at avoiding being ganked and had addons that told me if an enemy was nearby.

Sounds normal, if there's any population whatsoever. I'd move to a less crowded zone, especially at level 87.

Yep, this is the norm for me too. It is frustrating, to say the least. I've played Alliance and Horde on both PVE and PVP realms but my main are on Korgath now, which is a PVP realm. The best thing to do if you're getting majorly ganked like that is to log off for awhile or switch toons for awhile. Sometimes it helps you to not be as frustrated (even if you do want to level a specific toon by questing) as well as bores the other faction.

I'll only ever roll a rogue or feral druid on a pvp realm simple for the stealth to sneak away from ganking...Then again its the sheer amount of ganking that pretty much makes it so I do not play on pvp realms...

On pve realms though, if someones foolish enough to get themselves flagged, yeah, I hunt them for a bit, but seriously, if they'd rather die over and over instead of go afk by their body for 5min till the flag falls off, I'll accommodate them.

But on pvp realms...seems everyone is fair game and if you get targeted, you either need to run, fight or hope your guildies are loyal enough to come rescue you.

Yes, this is the norm. I used to play on PvP servers because of old acquaintances calling me there, and in the end I reached the conclusion PvP servers are just plain unplayable.

If you're doing it just for the people, DON'T DO IT. I was miserable and I hated this game for over a year, because I allowed some people to force me to play the way I hated. When I spoke up and told them they either go with me to a PvE server or I don't play with them, they started swearing at me. Reported them for harassment and rerolled. I started actually liking the game since, and three of five of them got suspended for harassment. I think I did good.

/sigh
If Jade Forest upsets you, wait till you get to the Valey. No trees, no any other cover whatsoever, without flying you're just a seated duck. That is, if you somehow manage to get away from the first quest-hub at least...

I have transfered my main into the pvp-serv at the end of Cata, "for people", and managed to get her to 90 within than "first week grace period" when everyone was so busy leveling that even the occasional missfires (because Tauren DO look like Yaungol, they even both have red hp bars!) were settled in 95% of the cases with a /sorry or /kiss. Yes, there was some pvp, too, just enough for a spice, and I rather enjoyed. It was genuine ovo, though, not gankers falling from the skye and one-shoting ungeared lowbies.

When I was lvling my pvp-server alt, however, I've moved her to Krasang as soon as it was possible, after having to take part in a Vot4W bodyguard party for guildie "slowpokes" on several occasions. I'm afraid that post-5.1 this zone is not as quiet secluded anymore, though.

Edit: oh, and mind you, I play Alliance, and my pvp serv has around 2:1 Ally/Horde ratio :P
