Growing Songbell Seeds problem

Unread post by Sukurachi »

I've been growing nothing but Songbells for over a month now, and have found a 100% rate of "problem" with my crop.
In other words, every single Songbell Seed will give either "alluring", or "critter", or "parched", etc...

Of 16 farm slots, I will have 16 "problems". Every single day.

Is this unique to the specialty seeds? (I've never tried the other ones, only Songbells) Or am I simply getting incredibly, unrealistically, bad RNG?

I know that, unlike regular fruit/vegetable seeds, Songbell Seeds will never give you a fully mature plant immediately upon planting.

But I clearly remember "problems" being a minority of the planting with regular seeds (ie: few critters, birds, weeds, etc...).

I read that with patch 5.2 they will be nerfing the critters. That can't come soon enough.

Isn't every seed suppose to give some kind of problem? I have never had a crop that was just "growing" outright.

now, unless this is something that has recently changed? since I've been growing only songbells for over a month.

Aside from some occasions when I've gotten a plump carrot or such immediately upon planting, I have never had a planted crop *not* have a problem. There's always something that has to be taken care of with each seed planted. The only exception would be those portal seeds from the mage and I don't think I've ever planted any of those beyond the initial quest to talk to the guy and plant one.

oh well, thank-you.
I guess I was remembering it wrong.

I can hardly wait for them to nerf the critters! they are almost harder to kill than regular mobs their level.

The critters are a royal PITA, even on my moderately well geared prot warrior. I learned early on on my undergeared shammy and hunter not to just pop up more than a couple of them at once. My warrior can handle a bunch of 'em which is good since he has the worst luck. I believe the worst I've run into so far has been 5 virmen upon harvesting and then 8 virmen/birds upon planting.

Regular plants (vegetables) have a small chance of maturing instantly so that you can pick them right away. If they don't mature instantly they will still need to be tended (watered, weeded, etc) They can also have higher yields if you follow Jogu's forecasts.

The special plants don't seem to have a chance of maturing instantly and aren't part of the forecast, so whatever their set yield rate is what you will get.

As annoying as virmin and birds are, it's not so bad with a hunter. I just pop each one as I go and throw the pet and a few traps at them. Many of them die without me ever having to shoot them and during that time I can pull out tangled weeds, water, etc.

I could swear the same thing, when farming was first introduced. But, yeah, regardless of what you plant, at least now, it always has a problem.

The first two seeds you get from Farmer Yoon grow quickly and with no complications. Every seed you plant after that has a problem unless it's an instant-plant bursting crop.

I plant nothing but Songbells on one toon and Enigma on another and never had all plots with issues. I'd say it's complete RNG

Doesn't matter what crop I plant. I plant songbells on one, and Cactus on the other and I have never had a crop that doesn't need tending. I think the only time crops didnt' need tending is back when you were growing your farm...and there was instant growths for the sake of questing. Once you have a full farm I think you are always going to have tending to do. I have been doing this nonstop forever so the guy who says he has had times where he didn't have to tend his crop may not be at full 16. That's all I can think because I don't believe it any other way.

I guess the most frustrating is having to deal with multiple mobs - vermin, birds, whatnot, that have nearly twice as much HP as I do. Each one takes forever to kill.

and it's infuriating to reap my crop, and find half of my plot is infested with "occupied soil", which I have to kill off, and then, once I've planted my new batch of seeds, MORE than half are either "alluring", or "wiggling". I spend the greater part of my time gardening/farming just KILLING the damned pests.

Wait...you multi-box, don't you, Sukurachi? That must be why they seem so tough to you. For the rest of us, killing them is the same as any other mob that level.

Personally I never have an issue taking out vermin or hawks on any of my characters. I harvest, then activate all the vermin/hawks at one go, running around till they've been gathered up then pop my CD's and AoE's to dispatch them rather quickly. By the time I've tilled all the soils and replanted crops and taken care of parched/infested/weeds/tentrils, my CD's are ready to deal with the 2nd wave of vermine/hawks.

My two main farmers are my BM hunter, and my Resto monk, and both can dispatch the mass of beasties pretty quickly.

I haven't noticed any really difference between what I plant and what I need to clear up based on crop type. One generally plants songbells, the other snake root. Sometimes if i want to work on cooking more I'll plant food stuff. Never seems to effect the RNG of anything.

You might just have bad luck with RNG and pest control, or it might just seem worse because your focusing on it more.

very astute observation :D

however, the character that I farm on is my only level 90 toon, and I've always soloed him. (my dual-boxing pairs are catching up, slowly... levels 89, 88, 87 and 86. yes I have that many toons that I dual-box. and that's not counting all the other toons that are below level 85).

I find the mobs in the farm annoyingly difficult (not in the sense that I have trouble, but it's a bloody waste of time killing them off). Especially when one considers they give no experience, no reputation, and they drop nothing. hell, they can't even be skinned.

Get better gear and it becomes less of a chore to kill them. :) It doesn't even have to be amazingly awesome gear; just a bunch of blues will enable you to pull multiple mobs at once, which makes the whole thing a ton faster.
