How to Kill a Dinomancer
Any tips on how to kill Dinomancers alone? Are they even soloable? Having trouble just taking one down.

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
They are very soloable, but I was at ilevel 482 at the time, which might be a thing.
Only thing you have to watch out for is Dinomending, silencing shot/scatter-shot/intimidate can help with interrupting that.

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
I killed them pretty easily when I farmed my tome, but then again I had 505 item level which "might" have had something to do with it.
As for tips, there really isn't that much. They try to heal themselves (seems like they can only cast it on themselves) and after you get them to 50% you basically win as they don't heal anymore. Their heal seems to come on timer so in theory you could try to aggro one, trap him, wait a moment and then break him out. Then let the heal go trough as they are (nearly) at max health. Then just start the killing and interrupt second heal if you see it.
Or, you can use pet that has interrupt (Gorilla, Nether Ray or Moth). Might actually be more simple that way.

They are kind of the like the panda rares in a way. Just need to stop the heal and you are sweet. :3

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
Lesser geared players are going to have trouble with constant heals. All I can suggest is to talent for silencing shot, have scatter ready, intimidation if you're BM (though maybe you'll want to spec for a burstier spec at this point? unsure...), and even speccing a pet with an interrupt/stun as tenacity. Use readiness if you think the dinomancer is going to be a pain; you won't want to lose the global on the cast. If all else fails, freeze traps can be used as hacky interrupts. Keep widow venom up, just in case.
Hopefully that helps! I had some trouble in PvP gear (which was embarrassingly offputting), so I feel your pain. :/

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
The heal definitely does seem to be on a timer. Since I didn't have any reliable interrupts when I was doing it, I realized with my dps that I consistently could get it to about 55-60% before the heal would hit. So rather than try to burst it down at the start I just got my dots rolling on it, cobra shot until it healed, and then dpsed it down from there. ilvl 488 is for reference, I didn't have meters running to see what dps was needed to do it that way.

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
I'm not particularly well-geared, item level of 465, but I had very little trouble soloing these guys. I used my spirit beast to help heal, kept mend pet up at all times, popped every cooldown and interrupted every heal possible. Widow venom was also up at all times. I specced into Silencing shot and that was my favorite form of interrupting the heals. I timed it so that as soon as silencing shot was ending, I would use intimidation and try my best to burst dps them down to 50% so they would stop healing.

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
I'm around 462 ilvl and had no problems. I used a tanking spirit beast at first, but they weren't hurting enough that I swapped him to dps and just burned them. They would cast one heal which I would silence, and from there it was just burn them. Just had to keep mend pet up and they were easy peasy.
Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
The heal is on an approx. 30 second timer. Tends to start casting again shortly after Silencing Shot is done.
They stop healing altogether once they hit 50% health. They will immediately turn into a Direhorn.
So just aim to hit 50% each time and you should be good.
I was ilvl488 when I did it, I was actually pulling 2-3 at a time. They DO NOT heal each other, only themselves. So once you get one to turn into a direhorn, just heal your pet, and DoT the Direhorn and pull another, re-applying DoTs to the other whenever it falls off.

That's true most of the time but out of the ten I did yesterday one did not change into a Direhorn at all. :/

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
Ok Ok Ok ... for me gear was of no issue I was able to farm it twice, one in LW made PvP gear and the other was a mix of blues and greens... very low ilvl. Yes Silence Shot is a must have, but you want more help? USE A CORE HOUND!!! Yes a Core Hound! spec it to tank pet, the CH fire breath will slow down the cast time on the heal making it more easier to stop.
So here's how I did it:
1) send it CH tank and blow BW, MoC, and DB (Bestial Wrath, Murder of Crows, Dire Beast)... the sooner he changes the less you worry about the heal
2) keep widow venom up just in case you miss your shots
3) use your traps, the more dps the better
4) if you see him start to cast the heal stop him... now it sucks that if you are in the middle of a cobra shot you cant jump to stop, but you should be able to ESC
5) once he changes keep mend pet up, dont let your tank die
now this may happen, it happened to me a few times
6) if you stun him (Intimidation/Scatter Shot) around the 50% area he might not change!!! and therefore you fight him til death which means he will try to heal all fight long... so either try to kill him or just reset...
I hope this little tad bit of info/personal exp helps!!!

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
My problem was every "interrupt" I was using was actually a stun. If they are stunned during the heal then they start casting heal again as soon as they wake up. So no matter how many times you stop them, they'll start healing again as soon as combat resumes. Scatter Shot, Wyvern Sting, Petrify all cause this problem. The stupid Pandaren rare monks do the same thing. I wonder if this is intentional or a bug.
As soon as I re-specced to use Silencing Shot I was fine. They only cast a second heal if I was really slow.
Oh and the thing where they don't switch to dino form seems happen if they're stunned around 50%. It seems to trigger exactly at the % rather than below it. So if they pass that threshold while stunned it never triggers again. Also seems to be unintentional I would guess?

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
I'm in the same boat, I don't have actual interrupts, only stuns. That said, against some mobs and some abilities Scatter Shot does work to "interrupt". On the panda monk rares, I Scatter Shot the heal and then stop attacking them completely for two or three seconds, which usually causes them to bypass trying to heal as they seem to work strictly on a timer.Wain wrote:My problem was every "interrupt" I was using was actually a stun. Maybe. I would not want to risk letting him heal just so he might turn into a dino ya know :/Wain wrote:My problem was every "interrupt" I was using was actually a stun. Those panda rares to me where a lot easyer before this pacth then after it. Man the spin kick just outright kills my pet in 2 or so hits. Never did that before the new patch :/

Yes that's insane! I put my (tenacity) pet on passive and it's still pretty much dead before it can runcowmuflage wrote:Maybe. I would not want to risk letting him heal just so he might turn into a dino ya know :/

I recommend not using stuns but instead use Silencing Shot. I had the same problem, once I switched it became really easy.

Re: How to Kill a Dinomancer
I have 499ilvl but i used intimidation basically as my interrupt. Worked like a treat! I had a few heal up from low health tho so not sure on the 50% health mark thing (unless I burst way too quick!). My pet was ok and fairs better on them then it does on the Direhorn mobs. Just watch mend pet
P.s. I used my corehound to farm it and had no idea it was benefitting me
