Re: New Hunter
I don't pvp much myself, but I believe spiders (with their ranged root web) is very popular. I also think "Cunning" is the preferred pvp spec but I could be wrong about that.

Re: New Hunter
Cunning for the utility or Ferocity for the damage is what most people use.

As for what family of pet, it comes down to preference. Look at Petopia for pets with utility-type abilities like roots (like the aforementioned spiders), disarms, stuns, and short duration crowd controls (like crane lullaby or monkey bad manner). Interrupts generally aren't needed on pets in PvP, since silencing shot tends to be the talent of choice.

This is generally true, but I always keep my Nether Ray handy for heavy healer groups.Kalliope wrote:As for what family of pet, it comes down to preference. Yep, it's very situational.Gimlion wrote:This is generally true, but I always keep my Nether Ray handy for heavy healer groups.Kalliope wrote:As for what family of pet, it comes down to preference. Don't forget that your ability to carry pets increases every few levels until 5 (as level 85), plus you have 20 slots in the stable to put pets (but they will not be available until you carry them) Get pets, test them out, put them in the stable. Get other pets, compare with the ones in the stable. You'll decide which works for what you want. I have about 15 on one of hunters.

Re: New Hunter
It's been a while since I played WoW, but for PvP, most people tend to get pets that have some sort of crowd control (roots, stuns, blinds, etc.) or disarm. I tend to prefer ones that have a short cooldown, like crocolisks. They can slow the target by 50% for 6 seconds every 10 seconds. That's pretty nice for a flag carrier.
Granted, if the flag carrier is a druid they can just shapeshift out of it, or at least they used to be able to.....
Anyway, that's just my preference. A lot of folks use spiders, I've noticed. I had fun on Ariela using my monkey, Pierre. Even though it has a long cooldown, it was fun to use. And as others have mentioned, cunning and ferocity are usually the preferred specs.
For questing and leveling, well, that is really entirely up to you. There are so many different pets and skills that it would be difficult to narrow it down to one or even a handful. Everyone plays differently, and so everyone finds different things useful. Personally, I like to quest with pets in the tenacity spec. I find that my ferocity pets crumple a bit too easily, so I like something that can last a little while longer, especially against tougher enemies. Again, that's just me.
