Lucky? Maybe
Lately I've been getting back into WoW, I'm not sure why though. I'd given it up but played once in a while. After the many kills of Krush, and the jerks that were just being mean about it, I decided that I'd give up his hunt. Seems I have no luck in finding the big green guy. Makes me sad really. But I do have luck with other rares.
My first day as an 80 I found and tamed Skoll while another Bm Hunter was out looking for him as well. My first Spirit Beast, and the one that got me hooked.
I've seen Loque Four times, including the time I tamed him. I managed to get someone to tame him the first time after, then killed him the third time. Fourth I let him be and flew back after about a half hour to find that someone had killed him.
After giving up on Krush I flew out to Zul'Drak to see if Gondria was there. Flew to most of her spots and nothing, then I went to the last one and she popped up on my screen. Three out of four.
I started to hunt Arcturis after that. Didn't get him the first day because I went to see if Aotona was up. No luck and I came back to find a little belf hunter had gotten him. No worries though, I was happy for them. Next day I logged in and sat there for six or seven hours. Came back from supper and there's a big blue bear walking around. That's all the spirit beasts.
And today I logged in on my baby Hunter in the Hinterlands. I parked her there a few days ago when I went to take a quick look for Cliff Jumper and hadn't logged in since. I figured I'd give it one more go. Start doing my odd little loop and all I see is a sea of white fur. On my way back I spot his dot on my map, then I see his grey fuzz ahead of me. Cliff Jumper is now the only Pure wolf I own.
I've also got a habit of seeing Humar when I'm on my hunters...just my hunters though.
Anyone else get this lucky with pets you want, or even ones you don't? I wish the luck could be transfered to pets you do want, it'd make everything so much Easier.

Re: Lucky? Maybe
Right now I'm just all out of luck it seems. Pretty much all of my rares but two (Snort and Clutchmother) were lucky stumble upons. Not so with Arcturis who I've been secretly hunting on my main since I hit 74. I really hope you luck rubs off onto me.
Welcome back and huge congratulations on the tames!

Re: Lucky? Maybe
I've only had Tyuriwen as a serious hunter, heck, even a serious character (I have a level 80 druid, but I use her solely forherbing/flasks nowadays). But the only pets I've ever camped have been Loque, Krush and Skoll.
After many unsuccessful laps of Sholozar I was told by a few lvl 75's if I 'wanted to tame a white lynx'. So Medea was a very accidental stumble.
I camped Skoll furiously, and it REALLY paid off after a week or so. He wandered up to me, gave me a nuzzle, and he was mine. :3
Krush...My love-hate relationship with him has been going on for a few months now. He's been killed under my nose, in the middle of a tame, twice, by achievement-hunting wretches...Twice I cried. Big dinosaury tears. =( He seems to be a distant dream to me, but hopefully once Cata hits and everyone forgets about Northrend, he will be mine. If I stumple upon him earlier, all the better.
Gondria was (both times) a very 'Huh. So you're here.' kind of encounter. A few days after Gondria-patch hit, I flew around her spawn points, not exactly praying she was there (at the time I already had Loque, and didn't want Gondria more than I did Medea), and there she was! Tamed her and jumped up and down, but not as much as when I got Loque...
I let Gondria go for a 5th stable slot, since I really wanted a Devilsaur/Silithid/Hyena/Spider/Devilsaur/Silithid/Spider (you get the picture), but a few weeks ago, while checking for Zul'Drak rares for the Frostbitten achievement, I felt a little tug to just...check her spawn points. I never expected her to be there. And voila! She was there, penultimate spawn. I was holding onto Cretoxys, my black Devilsaur, as a trash pet for when I meet Krush, but I was so disheartened by that point, I ditched him (which I still feel awful about ;_;), and picked Siouxsie up again (I thought of her as a bit of a Banshee, and even though it was a decade before my time, my mother told me of Siouxsie and the Banshees in their hayday. Or rather, hair-day. Oh the 80s...)
To summarize, if you're not really bothered/expecting them to be there (which is hard, I know), they'll most likely jump out to say hi! =D But that's just how luck works, eh?

Re: Lucky? Maybe
Many rares I've only seen in the wild one time, at the time I tamed them OR one time when I am one level off from being able to tame them (oh great).
Others for some reason too lucky. I've seen the spirit bear 4 times, Loque 3, Humar 10+, Araga 4, Skoll 2, Cliff Jumper 2. I'm starting to think that some days the blizz system makes your character 'lucky' if that makes sense... makes me wonder.
Sadly no matter how much I look I've never seen even a glimpse dead or alive of aotona or krush ?

Re: Lucky? Maybe
I seem to have insane spirit beast luck. The only beast I really, truly wanted--yes, you guessed it, that (in)famous Loque'nahak--I camped for to the point of despair until I finally got him, wandering by the gorillas at 3:15 A.M. However, AFTER I got him, I unexpectedly found him again and helped another hunter tame him. Then, all of this within the span of two weeks, I found Gondria by circling her spawn points once, purely on a whim, found Arcturis by skimming by his spawn point, again on a whim, and found Skoll after two circles and with a night elf hunter hovering above him on a purple proto-drake (thank you, night elf hunter!). No camping except for that first part. It's insanity. I also found Aotona twice and King Krush once, though Krush was killed out from under me. No rare spawn has ever hidden from me, now that I think about it. I feel sort of bad. >>

Re: Lucky? Maybe
I had been looking for Loque pretty casually for like two weeks. I would end up checking the other spirit beasts spawns every so often and I ended up getting Gondria.
Four days ago, I was doing a circle of Sholazar for Loque and I end up seeing King Krush and I tame him on my second attempt.
The day after I decided I'd spend the entire day farming ores in Sholazar while checking spawn points. I was literally there for 12 hours and every so often I'd ask if anyone had seen Loque and I would never get a reply. At the end of the day I'm tired and never want to search again. I highly suggest you never try what I did.
Yesterday I decided I didn't want to bother with trying to tame rares so I went to level my fishing without a care in the world. This morning I got on to level fishing some more and went to Grizzly Hills and I see Arcturis. I get really nervous and once I trap him and start taming I don't want to even touch the keyboard for the fear of accidentally moving and breaking the channeling. I end up taming him then I decided to test my luck and do one circle around Sholazar. AND HE'S THERE. I tame him as well. At this point I'm pretty pumped and take my new kitty into Wintergrasp and do that. After I decide to do my Hyldnir daily and I have to go do the frost oil on the eggs one. I fly by the Skoll spawn under Temple of Storms and he's there and I tame him.
After spending so much time searching for spirit beasts, I end up taming 3 within an hour. I'm just said I had to abandon my ghost saber and white gorilla.
