The Lost Account

Unread post by SpoonyBard »

Just a warning, this is a bit of a scary story, so only read if you're into psychological horror stories.

This story may or may not be true; no evidence has suggested either. This story will be written as it was told.

Day 1
I woke up one morning, went to work, checked email at work, and I noticed I had an interesting email from one of my guildies. She mentioned that I was online right now. I was a bit confused at the time... When I got home and made dinner for the hubby, I got online. My main, which was a hunter, was where I last logged out, at my usual place in the valley of the four winds. I checked the guild roster and no one else was on at the time, not even my friend. I shrugged it off and went on to do my dailies. It seemed quiet as usual in the normal places, but when I went to the thundering isle, it seemed deserted too. I just chocked it up to the fact it was a week day and our server had a low alliance population anyways. After I finished doing my dailies, I went to the guild bank to deposit a lockbox and some greens I had found for our guild rogue and enchanters to deal with. The first tab was completely empty, I assumed it was cleaned out for maintenance. I stayed online a little later than normal, expecting my friend to get on, but she never did.

Day 2
It was Friday, and I went to work for a half day due to my working schedule. It was pretty nice at work, but before I got off... My friend contacted me via email again. She said I was online again. This confused me, and I emailed her asking her where she was last night. I didn't get a reply before I left work to go home. When I got home, I ignored making myself lunch and immediately entered the game. I was where I logged out, in front of the guild bank. My friend was online, but not talking to me. Several other guildies were too. I noticed that I could access the hidden guild bank tabs that only officers could access too. But the entire guild bank was empty. My rank didn't change, I was still a plain member. The guild leader was the only one who could change anything, and he hadn't been on for three days. I just shrugged it off and went on to do my dailies. Again, it was eerily lonely on the isle and even in the valley of the four winds. When I was done, I went back to the guild bank and there was a note (the kind you would save a copy of from a mail you received) and I decided to check it.
"Everything is mine. You shall be mine." it said. I thought someone was joking or it was a prank from someone in the guild who may of had a crush on me. I shrugged it off.

Day 3
I woke up and checked my email while I was making coffee for my husband and I. I received one of those emails from battle.net that said my account was compromised, but I took it as spam from one of those phishers. It had to of been secure because I obviously had the security key on my phone. I went to check my character anyways. I logged in my main and something very unusual had happened. She was in Exodar of all places, at the bank. I always logged her out in Pandaria, so this shocked me that someone was on my account. Maybe it was my husband... I kept telling myself that, until I checked my bank. All my bags were gone in the bank, only a note left. It had the exact same wording as before. I also checked my guild. No one would answer me, and when I tried to PM my friends, they all had me on ignore. I went to try my alts. Each one was in the exact same spot in the Exodar as my main; and again, each one was ignored by all of my friends. I felt alone, and emailed my friend asking her what was happening.
"What is going on? Why are you ignoring me? Did my account actually get hacked?!" I sent to her, hoping she would reply. I soon opened a GM ticket as well, asking what was going on... It had an ETA of 3 days and 22 hours before a GM could reach me. I decided to spend the day with my husband and try not to worry about it.

Day 4
Sunday... I love Sundays! They're a cheerful day to wake up to. My husband is off, I'm off, and we both normally watch movies together. Well... I was worried. I decided to check my email... Again with the email "Your account has been compromised". Except I recieved it twice this time, at the same time. I logged onto my account. Nothing seemed to change, and I decided I would try something different instead of dailies. I wanted to get one of the new spirit beasts. I went to my stable and it was very unusual... All of my pets, every single one, was a 'crocolisk' with the slime skin. Each one had an odd name; they were all renamed. I looked the names up, and they were in latin, all in order they said "You will be next on my journey of pain". The five on my person were in German, Italian, French, and the last two were actually symbols, which I thought couldn't even be used in pet names. The three words were "You are next" when I put them in a translator. I was honestly kind of scared. I couldn't move my pets around in my stable either. I was stuck with them...

... I left the game alone. I was honestly worried. The GM ticket timer said I had 2 days 15 hours.

Day 5
I called in sick because I was kind of emotionally distraught... My husband went to work. I spent most of my time in bed, actually worried about a digital game... I convinced myself it was nothing. I wanted to check to see if a GM had contacted me while I was offline. I logged in and all of my characters were in deep red armor tons and had the bone skinned weapons. I honestly... Laughed at this. It was quite silly, and I thought to myself that this would be a neat transmog prank... But then I realized that my account was changing more and more each time. I logged in my hunter and this time she was dead in Undercity of all places. I wasn't given the option to release and I assumed it was a bug. After trying reloading my UI, relogging, even restarting my computer, I couldn't release. I was dead and had no timer; dead in the Undercity's warlock training area. I tried other characters, each one was in the exact same spot, dead, in the Undercity.

I tried to watch TV... But inside I was worried... When my husband got home I tried to explain it to him. He said it must be some glitch in the game and to wait for a GM to help or something. He played other games, like first person shooters, so he didn't understand the MMO concepts. The GM ticket timer said I had 1 day and 12 hours.

Day 6
I went to work and tried to forget about the game for now. I checked my email during lunch and I had at least twelve emails saying my account was compromised and they weren't from battle.net, but blizzard support. I assumed it had to be some scam at this point. I also received an email from my friend finally. She asked where I had been, that the guild kicked her out for taking all the guild's gold and items. She said I had been whispering everyone the phrase "Y0UR3 N3XT 1332432A" and creeping everyone out. It wasn't just on my main either, she said I was doing it simultaneously on all my alts. I felt rather disturbed at this... Maybe a blizzard employee about to get canned was having fun with my account. I don't know, I was worried.
I got home and logged in. All of my characters were now undead. They maintained their classes, even the paladin, shaman, and druids I had, but they were all the same male undead skin. The one with the missing jaw and balding tufty hair. It seemed they were all stripped bare except for a red tabard. Whenever I tried to log in on one, I got a memory error. On the sixth time of trying, I read the error. It was an odd one because it had 1332432A on the end of the 'Memory Leak' error... I was scared that I had some malicious virus or something now.

... I ran my virus scan and had nightmares that night... I guess I could try contacting support over the phone tomorrow...

Day 7
I was tired when I finally woke up... I had the day off... I checked my email... And I received an email saying "Ticket Resolved" from a GM. I checked it and it looked like a generic copy/paste from a GM... It said "I haven't found anything wrong with your account. It hasn't been compromised, but when we spoke in game, I wondered why you kept saying 'Help me' in each reply. I have updated this ticket to say, I'm sorry that something was bothering you. I hope you can enjoy your stay in the World of Azeroth! Have a nice day! GM~******"
... It kind of worried me that he said everything was okay... I tried to log on... And couldn't... It said I was banned. I called the support line. After waiting two hours on hold, I finally got through. I asked what was going on with my account and gave them the details. The tech support guy told me that I had been maliciously attacking the servers through some unknown means, likely a third party device. I tried to explain that it wasn't me and he wouldn't buy it. He told me that if I wanted to play again, I would have to buy the game again...

I was too scared to buy the game again...

My friend and I still stayed in contact and I told her the story. She said it was completely silly, but she did get mails from my old account occasionally. She said other guild mates, and even completely strangers, still got mails and even whispers from my old account. Even people on other servers received that ominous whisper. After a few days the reports of the whispers faded and no one cared to bother with it, thinking it was a prank. I still worry though, that something might be wrong with the game...

Today I play games with my husband, usually silly party games... But I do have this deep phobia in the back of my head now... Something might be watching me playing games... It's weird... Almost every game is connected to the internet, and I wonder... What if there are things in the internet that hackers or even something unexplained has placed there... Watching us... Or even trying to communicate with us...

This story has been adapted for a modern tale of WoW... Originally this took place in Wrath of the Lich King, 4 weeks before ICC came out.

I hope you enjoyed reading ._. and hope that I haven't spooked any of ya! :P

EDIT: When I was submitting this story, it said it was invalid the first time, but accepted the second time O.o creepy. XD

Thank you, Doctress ^_^ also, this is mostly based on an actual true story, my old guildy's wife had something similiar happen to her, and that's all I'll say. :>
