A Real Hunter's Outfit

Unread post by Hatari »

I've noticed that a lot of our gear (especially end game stuff, but really anything that's worth wearing) tends to be beefy (no pun intended from the Tauren), bulky, and downright way too...what's the phrase? Battlefield Ready? It's just more stuff you'd find on legendary warriors than it is stuff for a "practical" hunter. I recently bought heirlooms for my human alt, and they're biker shorts (in mail, mind you), and a halter top....all in red. She looks cool, but she doesn't exactly look like a hunter, if you follow me. Don't get me wrong, I like looking like a bad a** legendary warrior as much as the next girl, and when you work that hard to get that gear, then it really aught to lookspecial. So I'm not complaining. But. It's been a desire of mine to find Hatari some really nice RP gear. Something that feels like it would work for actually hunting. My ideal for this transmog set would be something that utilizes lots of leather, bone, fur, horn--the kinds of things she'd be getting from the hunts. I spent a good deal of tonight perusing wowhead and Hatari's leatherworking tab to find options. Turns out there was a Wrath sett I could make, in its entirety, that I thought looked pretty cool. So I made it. It was only after I'd gotten the borean leather and crafted the entire suit that I realized it was a LEATHER suit, not mail, and you cannot transmog mail into leather.

... *soft whimper*

I should have known this, but it's never come up for me, before. And I transmog my guns into bows all the time. Lesson learned. Now I simply have to find room...somewhere...to save a leather suit to use for RP by wearing instead of tranmogging. I may or may not keep it, but here's what it looks like:

It's called the Iceborne Embrace set.

Having failed with that, I kept up the search for a mail set. This is what I came up with. Wowhead calls it the Ravenous Fiend Set. I didn't like the wide belt, which looks different in game than it does in the viewer on wowhead (it's basically one of those wide, wrestlers's belts that doesn't quite hug the hips), so I tried to find something else. What I wound up with will probably get switched out for the one suggested in the comments section--if I can find one on the AH or get one to drop somewhere. As for the pants...I probably had them during the wrathgate thing, but as with almost all my old gear, no doubt they got sold off when I moved on to bigger things. And, alas, there are no other versions in game. So no way to get them back. So I substituted my old An'kahar pants, which I think works fairly well. The rest of the pieces were all available for a bit of gold from the various faction vendors (Kirin Tor for the boots, Argent Crusade for the chest, Ebon Blade for the shoulders, and Wyrmrest had the gloves). The helm...I actually spent honor points on. I've been trying to save up honor to buy the Malevolent Gladiator's Pursuit set, which I love but has been really hard for me to get as I do not generally PVP. I might be crazy wanting a PVP suit, but, I just think it looks really cool. Anyway, yeah, I spent honor on the helm. I really like the result, but I'm starting to think it looks better without a helm. With the helm, it looks like a battle suit. Without it, Hatari (I think) looks more like a practical hunter. Here's a screenshot, split in two showing helm and no helm. Tell me what you guys think? And any suggestions for better/different 'realistic' hunter sets?

I personally think it looks better without the helm. :3 But that's just me.

I think the helm would suit more on a male bloodelf or troll or orc, not undead tho for sure.

I vote for no helmet too. I usually don't like helmets much in any case, so perhaps I'm biased. Still, no helmet!

I love that helm model! I remember running around with the Toothslice Helm from the Oracles QM.

I have similar gear desires. I ended up using mostly Scorpid LW gear, as I like scorpions and like the idea of making gear from animals I'd hunted.

Another practical (if plain) leather-looking set is the Talhide set.

I love the look of the scorpid sets, except for the fact that they leave you half naked. Perhaps an undershirt might solve that for me, if I can find one in a color that compliments the set. Good idea.
Or, maybe I should just embrace the half nakedness. Heheh. It might grow on me.

That is an awesome shirt! I might use that as my default, and fishing shirt.
Thanks for pointing it out to me.

I had the same problem with my Tauren's transmog. I wanted a leather look that a character from Northrend would wear (I RPed her as a Taunka) but of course the gear had to be mail. I finally came up with this.

Image

The pieces are mostly from the ICC 5-man dungeons, with the helm, shoulders and belt being from lower level quest rewards.

I've seen others wearing sets close to yours. I love that look too. I was thinking of getting those pieces as well but got lazy. I also LOVE that helm on Tauren. I had it for a while myself. IMO that helm was made for Tauren. It looks silly on other races.

Wow I like that. I like that a lot. Can you tell me the exact pieces it's made of? If it's quest rewards, I don't hold much hope of getting them. I Finished most of the zones in Wrath, and I didn't keep any of the leveling gear. But, maybe they have alternates that can be crafted, or drop from something.

Also, I agree. I really like that helm I got. I think it looks really cool. I just think the no helm look has a beauty all its own to that set, as well. I'll just check helm display on or off, depending on my mood, I guess.

PS: BTW, good to see another female Tauren! :) Your look is just about opposite of Hatari. All white instead of all black. We'd make an interesting pair! I love the white wasp, too. Hatari has the black one, Rex Ashil, which I renamed Ashur. Reading the wasp's name put me in mind of the character of Ashur from the TV series Spartacus. And Ashur's personality fits a wasp's very well. Or maybe a spider. Heh. :)

Thanks! Here is her armory page for the gear: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/n ... e/advanced

The shoulders are the only piece I know that are unique, coming from one quest reward. The belt has many different lookalikes coming from different quests in the same level range. The helm has craftable and random drop lookalikes.

I no longer play WoW but I loved my female Tauren. I had two at max level, Ptaysanwee the hunter here and a druid.

It seems like I see fewer and fewer female Tauren characters as time goes by. Shucks, I could probably go a whole week and only see the two that are in my shaman's 10 man raid group. Since my shammy is also a female Tauren, the raid is 30% cow. :)

have you tried the tallhide set? No idea what it would look like on a tauren but i use it on Abricot (dwarf) and imo its just fitting and look like leather... the only problem would probally be the tabard since i use the guildtabard... but im sure you could just use the tallhide breastplate

I really like the set you made for your Tauren. My Larkania uses many of the same pieces on one of her sets.

This is what I came up with. It's the already mentioned Netherstorm/Talhide leggins and since I didn't have the rep for the gloves your Tauren has, I'm using this ones for now.

Her other set (and the one I'm currently using) is the green one with kilt and shoulders with feathers. In this shot you can't see the bow properly. It's the one from the level 20 hunter quest.

Tårnfalk: Thanks for pointing out the Talhide set! I will probably collect it at some point. It's a nice set, something good for RP in town perhaps, but it doesn't have the roughshod, 'used' look I'm thinking of for a hunter in the field. Still, I really like it.

Boven: I feel the same way. It's a shame. I wish there were more female Taurens around, too.

Wassa: Aww. Sorry to hear you're not playing anymore. I checked out Ptaysanwee's armory page, and it delighted me. I noticed most of your pet names (and your toon, too, of course) use Native American names. I loved that. Loved your pets as well. Especially Wanageeska. So fitting to name Arcturis the 'White Spirit'. Reminded me of my own Wanagi. And, of course, my own Arcturis is one of my favorite pets. He was my first Spirit Beast.

I went to Northrend to do some runs to get the gear, and I came out disappointed. Not a single drop. It was only after the runs that I realized I did them on heroic, and the gear I want comes only from normal. I am such an idiot some times. I'll have to go back another time. Heh.

Finduilas: What's the name of the kilt, and shoulders with feathers? They look fantastic.

Thanks for all the help, everyone!

I'm glad you like this set Hatari.

The kilt is http://www.wowhead.com/item=67148 it dropped for me from Garr in Hyjal. I also saw a level 90 lookalike in the auctions a few days ago, also it's not on Wowhead under "same model as" - I think they haven't updated it yet.

The shoulders are http://www.wowhead.com/item=15553 I bought them in the auctions and got very lucky with someone selling them for about 2 gold - they ususally go for 900gold or more on my server.

And here's Larkania's Armory page if you want to look at the other pieces of armor:
