AFAIK, wasn't it pretty much confirmed that X and Y have to do with the standard coordinate plane? With Z being the 3rd plane, making it 3D, as in the 3DS?

hahaha nvm I got my genes mixed up. Of course he'd have XY chromosomes cos he's male. Silly me XD

Actually, I dunno- because Mewtwo is a legend, isn't he ungendered? I'm not sure what that'd mean chromosomes wise though. x.x

And as for the X/Y/Z axis vs. chromosomes thing, I'm pretty sure it's chromosomes, judging by the original logo. :-)

And Mewtwo is a manmade clone anyway so he REALLY has no gender XD

Only gendered legends are:

Latios (male)

Latias (female)

Kami Trio (all dudes)

Heatran (can be either)

Cresselia (Girl)

So yeah...

anyways I'm pretty sure the games are chromosome based...that mark in the logos and Mewtwo's new form pretty much sell it for me. Nice to see the chance at Poison type love!

What if the starters pull a gen 2 on us and end up all pure in the end? XD

I am really hoping the poison type love is true, because I adore quite a few of the poison types and it's been sad to see them so underrepresented.

And also, the idea of frilly, pretty little Sylveon tearing apart gigantic badass dragons is a really, really amusing one. xD I think I need a Sylveon in my team, just for that.

Hopefully we finally get a Poison legendary. With Bugs getting legendary love in 5th gen (hell, their legendary ends the generation in the pokedex), Poison is the only type that needs one.

Well, technically, all the legendaries other than the specifically stated ones can be either. They have no gender in-game because they wanted to deter breeding. In the anime, they have shown several of the legendaries being represented as gendered (such as Lugia and HER babies). The only truly ungendered pokemon I can think of is Ditto, as well as any metal-made or rock-made pokemon.

Also thinking Zekrom and Reshisram are male and female too, part of the whole yin/yang thing (tho funnily enough female is usually yin and male is usually yang).

I have to agree completely on this. XD I've always referred to any Legendary I caught as whatever gender I decided to give it. I just can't go by the whole "Legendaries are genderless!" thing. XD
MaximumOverdrive wrote:Also thinking Zekrom and Reshisram are male and female too, part of the whole yin/yang thing (tho funnily enough female is usually yin and male is usually yang).
Aaand I'm actually gonna disagree on this part. XD Mostly cause I usually prefer not to say "X Legendary is indefinitely Y gender", mostly cause.. Screw stereotypes! XD And I like to believe that there are way more than just one member of a Legendary species, so naturally they can be either gender. (Unless it's like, gender-specific in the games. Then again, I do stand by the idea that male Cresselia exist. XP) Although I do have.. Preferred gendered for some Legendaries (Like the Legendary Musketeers, as I'm sure most of you know, I very much prefer them as male. XD Don't mind me, I'm just your friendly neighbourhood Legendary Musketeers fangirl!), but I like to believe they can be either. As for Reshiram and Zekrom, I like to think they're male and female, respectively, or at least, I prefer those genders for them, as Yang (Light, Reshiram) is masculine, while Yin (Dark, Zekrom) is feminine. So what if Reshiram was specifically made to look feminine? Doesn't mean it has to be! XP (Of course, again, I am biased in this regard, as I very much love male Reshirams. <3 *Huggles her male Reshiram, Baine*)

...Ahem. Yeah, don't mind me. I'm just doing my usual "Let's pop into the thread to give a giant ramble of opinions on Legendaries!" thing. Hey, you guys should expect this by now! XP

Well, cause of how their background is, I doubt there's more than one of Reshiram and Zekrom (as well as Kyurem). And I know that light/yang is normally male and vice versa...that's why I thought it was funny, but the creators specifically wanted these pokemon to be opposites, hence the differences including what looks like gender differences. One of the few times that things are...heh...black and white. I do think most lengendaries can be either and that there's multiples minus a few examples (like the Tao trio and Mewtwo), it's just these two were specifically made to be gender different to go with the whole yin-yang thing and they swapped the gender associated with that color.

Heh, I honestly can't see the in-game Reshiram and Zekrom as having genders at all, they seem like overpowering forces contained in simple material bodies- creatures that don't care about gender. After all, weren't they one dragon, once? Would they split genders?

I always imagine there are multiple of each legend, even ones like Mewtwo. Just makes RP and such easier, hehe. I just say there's one "head" creature for each Legend.

*Shrugs* I like to believe that basically any Legendary, beyond possibly Arceus, can have multiples of their species in SOME way or form. Although that may just be due to my status as a roleplayer, who roleplays with a LOT of different people, so I HAVE to have an open mind on that sort of thing. Heck, one of my friends has TWO Mewtwo characters. XD

And for the Tao Trio, I like to think that there can be more than one of each, because.. Is there REALLY a reason why there can't be? There really is nothing about them that suggests there couldn't be, let's say, more than one Zekrom. Sure, there's the original Zekrom, that's obvious, but who's to say another can't be born somehow? XD

And as for their genders, I really try to just go with "They can be either", because it's really too bothersome to argue one or the other. XD (Not saying that we're arguing. I've argued with people in the past over Legendaries and their genders, though... And I admit, it's a stupid thing to do. XD) Sure, they may look one gender, but I think they can be either, because again, there really is nothing to suggest, with absolute certainty, that they can't be the other gender as well. XP

Actually, for Reshiram and Zekrom, I can totally see them as ambiguous as well. XD And technically, yeah, the original Zekrom and Reshiram were one dragon. Doesn't mean others of their species can't be a specific gender, though. XP

Exactly what I was saying earlier~! XD (Probably helps that you're one of the people I RP with, so.. XD) And yeah, I go by the "head" member of a species idea as well.

I can understand the rp, since most rp ignores lore, but I've become a bit of a stickler for lore (especially after a couple of my favorite franchises have butchered it) and this is one of the few instances where I just can't relent on it. They're lengendaries for a couple of reasons, one being that there's not many of them. Zekrom, Reshiram, Mewtwo, and a couple others will always be one of a kind to me.

I used to rp a lot (tons of DnD amongst other things) and the possibilities were endless. But we also had our own worlds and so didn't have to follow preset lore. I suppose if you're following pokemon in an alternate universe, then there could easily be multiples (weren't the dungeon games like that?) But for the official universe...some are just one of a kind.

Uh.. No. Not for us. We (As in those of us who did Pokemon RPs here on the forums, and anyone who has joined us since, AKA the PokeRP group.) DO follow much of the lore, thank you very much! Quite frankly, I'm actually sort of offended by the notion that either an RP universe MUST follow the "lore" STRICTLY, or it's automatically an alternate universe! The PokeRP group DOES follow lore for the Legendaries, particularly the games' lore for them. But last I checked, there is NOTHING in the lore for those Legendaries that rules out there being more than one of them in SOME fashion. At least for us, as we go all out on the idea of interbreeding species, and the like. Therefore, for us, there is nothing wrong with the idea of the original Mewtwo breeding with a Ditto, and therefore, there being OTHER Mewtwos in the world.

Yes, we stray from some of the mechanics of the games, because it adds to our fun, but we still follow the lore of the Legendaries, and the main games. Because hey, it ACTUALLY is possible to stay true to the general lore of something, AND stray slightly from game mechanics, and make it all work in an RP universe!

And really, the whole "Oh they're Legendaries FOR A REASON" argument is honestly.. Just dumb. How does there being maybe a handful more than the "official" amount of a species make them "not special enough to be Legendary"? That, quite frankly, makes no sense at all. Besides, there "being only one of them" does not equal being Legendary. At all. Take Latios and Latias. The PokeDex entries THEMSELVES state they live in herds. Which means there are a LOT of Latis around. That doesn't take away their status as Legendary, though.

(Note: Forgive me if I sound a little, or more than a little, hostile. I admit, I'm offended. And I think I have some sort of right to be so, given the circumstances.)
