Fox Ability Mis-type

Unread post by Astratia »

Tailspin: Your fox twirls its tail around, kicking up an obscuring cloud of dust causing all enemies within 10 yards to have their spell cast speed increased by 50% (25% on player targets) for 30 sec.

Bad fox...

I tested it on a dummy, and the good news is that the buff correctly decreases the cast speed - it's just written wrong in the description.

I'm not sure it's a mis-type as much as it's just really poorly worded. If it is, and I'm reading it right, I believe they mean that the enemies' spells take longer to cast, not that they cast them faster. I've seen this wording on a few other spells/abilities, and had to double-take just to make sure I was actually reading it right. I could be wrong, though, and it could be a mis-type. >.> Blizzard confuzzles me sometimes. Hehe.

This is exactly what happened.

It's not that poorly worded, just a little confusing to understand.

Having your cast time increased means it takes longer to cast.
Having your cast time decreased means it takes less time to cast.

We generally think about "increasing" being better or faster, but increasing time for a spell that ideally takes little time is a bad thing.

it is poorly worded.
it is actually contradictory.

it does not say that your "cast time" is increased.

it says that your "cast speed" is increased.

increased speed means faster.
increased time means longer.

increased cast speed means faster casting of spells. there's no confusion possible there. it is a mistype.

they need to correct it to either "cast speed is decreased by 50%", or "cast time is increased by 50%".

and they would also have to change the numbers because 50% does not work in both directions.

The former would mean that it would take you twice as long to cast a spell.
The latter would mean it takes you 50% more time to cast a spell, which is not the equivalent time factor.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
