New bat mounts appearing in WMV

These models don't seem to be complete as the saddles and wing webs aren't mapped yet, but the head and face are new. Also, there wasn't an entry in WMV for them a few days ago when I was scoping out the new bat mount.

Ah, no. They've been in the files as long as the Armored Bloodwing models have been, which was 5.3. They aren't new, but I'm glad you dug them back up. I hope they get used, at least as a pet model, and maybe to be the new wyvern for undead/trolls very soon (the saddled model)


The saddle-less version would be great for a bat pet. Maybe mostly 90-95 mobs, and a few low level rare spawns too. God knows bats deserve some love after 8 years. With Kunchong, I could somewhat understand because they're a different species, even if I'm still sad that what is basically an upgrade for silithids is not tameable, it's still somewhat justifiable. Leaving hunters to tame only the old bats while we have shiny new models in the database would just be shameful, really. You can spin it any way you want, but if they did that -- just ugh.


Anyway; back when they were first revealed, someone from Scrolls of Lore actually applied the proper textures and showed them. I'll try to dig it up for you guys..

Also, a few things make me sad about the bats is that two cool skins have saddle textures pasted on there, and not loose. The Bloodwing skin, with the red eyes. Even if you pick the unarmored bat and use that skin, thesaddle leather on the belly will be shown. Same goes for the silver. It's a shame because both of those are striking skins, but you can't have everything! All other skins are still great though!

True, but here specifically, there are unarmored, saddled versions. Personally, I hope Blizzard, when they remake the models, will make the new mounts (Unarmored Grand Gryphon models and Wyvern models, unarmored Pterodactyl, unarmored Faerie Dragon and unarmored Bat) a racial flying mount to be bought from a vendor or a quest. That would be sweet, imo.

I can't seem to trick WMV into displaying the wings on the unarmoured ones, even though all the skins are present.

I'll be honest. I don't know how Handclaw made the textures for the unarmored bats show up correctly. Possibly by exporting the models to another program where he could apply the textures. The textures are there, but they're a separate WMV file. Try to load up an unarmored bat and choose for instance 'batgreen1' you load the normal green skin textures on the bat. But 'batgreen2' and 'batgreen3' will load the remaining textures like for the wings. Sadly, they will paste those textures right on the body instead of the wings.
