Legendary Cloak quest, tips? strats?

Unread post by Slickrock »

So... fed Wrathion some junk food last night, and all I need to do is visit the 4 temples and then the fight begins.

So anyone have tips, strats, guides on how to do the fight? Been Googling it, but haven't seen anything for hunters yet.

so...i wiped a bunch of times trying to this fight the right way..like you tube range caster.

DONT DO THAT

Wiped 12 times was getting no where. Then i realized i am a hunter with a TANK PET.

SO...Tank AND SPANK the sob.

Ya you heard me. Keep pet on the boss..which will stay in middle. Spec so you have exhilaration twice on your pet with readiness.

Meanwhile run around in circles kitting the adds, slow traps, explosive trap (With knock back)..black ice glyph is nice too.

Go as surv so you can multi-shot the the slimes killing them isnt priority..kitting them is.

When mirror images come up use barrage...readiness and use barrage again for the next time they appear. If they appear again use multi-shot and deterrence if there cast bar gets high enough than finish them off. Not sure if they stop coming..might be a soft enrager...when i was trying to do it like you tube videos i got 6 in a row before they killed me.

So tank and spank, kite adds focus on boss.

Got it my 2nd try doing it this way (had to re-glyph into explosive trap/black ice)

FYI...i did 191k dps on this fight and only got 2 mirror images.

You can tank him? Wow I never even tried. He appeared to not have an aggro table, the way he keeps dashing across the room like that and smashing. Sounds like that is better than what I did oO

OK so I was 520ish ilvl when I completed this challenge. It was a mixture of LFR gear, loot from Oondasta and valor, upgraded here and there. I was Survival and I took the talents Glaive Toss and Thrill of the Hunt specifically for this *blackice seems a good idea too, wish i had thought of it). I kept my pet passive since the adds tear the pet up. It took me just shy of an hour to get it. I didn't wait for all cooldowns on every attempt, and I didn't eat any buff food or anything.

General tips
-I didn't really use my main shots until I was for sure behind Wrathion due to the damage buff. If I was in front of him, I used my judgment. If I could foresee getting behind him in the next 5-6 seconds, I would save my Explosive shot. If not, I would go ahead and use it so as to not waste a CD. I kept dots up at all times though, I wasn't sure how the bonus dmg applies to dots (does the dmg from individual dots scale dynamically when you position behind him? idk) Biggest thing is to use the heavy hitters when you are getting the dmg bonus to get the most out of it.
-I specced Glaive and Thrill for the mirages. He did 3 waves back to back with me when he got to ~50% HP (I couldn't tell if it was time or HP based). Glaive and 20 focus multishots is what got me through this part, but it felt RNGy to me. I never could tell what I was supposed to be going for, so I just randomly sprayed the room and had to hope I would hit the right one. I didn't use Barrage due to the fact I always got 3 waves of mirages and Barrages CD was just too long. However, if you can pet tank, you can do a lot more dmg to him up front and I can see Barrage being ideal for mirages.
-Adds, I kited the crap out of them. Being SV, multishot AOE with Thrill of the Hunt made short work of them. combine that with ice trap, it was fairly easy if you are used to kiting. I got in a few hinks when the void zone would cut me off or pin me in and I ran out of kite room.
-Patience and resolve. You can do it.

Haven't got to that point yet (7/12, better luck next week...and a moth after that to, yay), but I've read somewhere, that the images attack won't reach you "on the terrace Yu'lon is at" at all, and that you can cheat that phase by retreating there.

Trying it now...

Uggh... the slimes. I've never been good at kiting, and there's just not enough room in that room for me to kite well, given the utter failure that I am at that kind of movement. I may not get this. Trying it first as BM. Do not relish the thought of spending weeks on this learning kiting switching to SV for tools that I never use otherwise.. sigh...

I see that the slimes get faster and faster, so they do need to be killed, you can't just kite them forever either.

It appears the ultimate quest here is actually a fucking PVP quest for a PVE reward, go figure.

Edit... 20+ attempts. Go ahead, mock me and all, but I can't kite and kill the adds without dying. Best I can do is get him to just 50% when the first mirages spawn, and trying to get to the balcony, but I still have adds on my tail and I die. Trying barrage with the glyphed explosive shot, and that's helping, but it's still not enough. I suck.

Edit... 30+ attempts... I don't know how you guys above were kiting the adds forever, but all I can see is they have to die as fast as possible. Which currently is impossible for me.

Edit... the key seems to be that these adds move at twice your speed after about 15 seconds, give or take. Still no idea how to get rid of them while living.

Edit... it appears the strats about dropping aggro on the balcony have been hotfixed, still getting adds up there

Ok, got it...

Needed ancient hunter tricks... range and FD.

Based of what I found here... http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic ... 150?page=1

Allthough it doesn't quite work the way in the link, but.. assuming you have the initial dps to burn him well, the basic strat is:

Engage with full burst, avoid AOE as necessary.
When first adds spawn, go to steps of balcony, continue to dps. If the adds chase you, go up on balcony and FD. Run to the back of the balcony if needed.
At this point you should have pushed him to 50% or below, and he should enter his mirrors phase. STAY on the balcony. When he's done, he'll come to you.
On the balcony, adds should not spawn, and you just have to deal with dancing around the AOE attacks, while you continue to burn him. If you do get too close to the steps, and you aggro the slimes, FD again.

On my final attempt, I got aggro from the slimes three times on the balcony, and had to FD, but I had enough time with the cooldown to do that.

Be ready to do full burst when you are not running. Make good use of Readiness while we still have it.

I was doing this with 528 gear as BM. If your gear is a lot lower, you might need to do a lot more kiting if you can't burn him quickly enough.
