Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't think of testing this before opening the game to the public... On FR, a lot of things are done by changing the url. That kind of transparent behaviour in a game really needs some safeguards, as it's only a matter of time when someone would try to do stuff just by manipulating the url.

Look at DragonCave for example - it too has a lot of the major actions show up in the url, but it also has plenty of checks in place to ensure that people ONLY access the critical actions such as breeding the way they're supposed to; via the dragon's action page. If you enter the page any way other than an onsite link, you're denied access.

I get it the admins aren't pros and the game's still just starting up, but it's a pretty big thing to overlook. :/

Otis said the same thing, Golden, once I showed him the literal exploit caused by doing this. =/ He said it was a pretty big oversight on their behalf and that through the same type of hacking you could give yourself tons of gold and stuff too.

Yep, they're probably going to have a lot of work ahead of them in order to fix all these loopholes similar to this. Even more so if every action has its own checks, so they have to go through them all before they can bring the site back up.

Edit: or well actually, they might not have any checks at all in place, meaning they have to make one and then add it to every action. x.x'

Mhm. Could potentially mean a lot of down time for us. I'm kinda surprised their professional code smiths didn't check these loopholes while they've been in there. At least it's been brought to their attention now so hopefully they get it all shored up.

Still furious about Ice buying hatchlings and either not naming them before exalting them or naming them "EXALTED".

It's like, if I price them cheap, I lose them to Ice, if I don't price them at exalt fodder levels no one buys them at all. ARG ARG FUME ARG.

Also what's this about 'exalting changes'?

They made the exalting changes a while back at the same time they upped hatchling exaltation prices. Basically if you try to get dominance more than one week in a row, it's supposed to be harder and get harder the more you try to do it. That's why Ice went from dominating almost every week to dominating every other week.

I'm feeling so stupidly rough it's going to take me the entire day to max out my lucky streak if I can conjure up the energy to do it. I thought I was getting better but then i find out my cough medicine is the opposite of what I need to be taking and has been making me worse so now I can hardly think and all I want to do is sleep but the second my sleeping pill wore off I was immediately awake and coughing.

No ones home till sunday night and the pharmacy is about a half hour walk and not only can I not drive but my Learners licence expired on the 15th and I have no neighbors I know like, at all, to ask if they could drive me up. It's going to take me forever to get these holds done and even longer to gene my imminently breeding wildclaws so I can try to make some money to gene up my other wildclaws for their breeding.

Hmm... I've been thinking on it, and I'm not sure that the person who "bred two male dragons" is telling the truth? The code should be able to realize that one isn't female, even if you get into it... And, as you said Tyger, you're only messing with your end.

I heard rumours that every broken nest is because someone pressed "breed" while looking at their early preview babies, but I can confirm that's not true. One of my nests is glitched, and I certainly didn't do that. Additionally, I bred the nest before the preview hack was known.

(I am, of course, not saying that we should be using that at all for the time being; they definitely do need to fix some loopholes right now, and we shouldn't be doing anything that might make that harder.)

I find it far more likely that this is linked to the new hatching mechanic. We had no issues before the mechanic (and I highly doubt the person who revealed the hack stumbled upon it or only just started using it), and the mechanic has already messed with the nests a lot.

For everyone wondering what the hell is going on.

By now most of you are probably aware of the dragon offspring preview ‘chat’/’hack’/’tool’ whatever you wanna call it.

While I doubt the claims that this was the cause for the site’s lag today, it *is* the cause for the current downtime.

Apparently this preview bug also allowed people to breed male/male or female/female dragons, AND dragons that don’t even belong to them. Obviously this is a pretty enormous flaw and they are probably scrambling to fix it as soon as possible, hence the downtime.

Good luck to those of you who were simply trying to preview your own dragons before they came off of cooldown. You probably didn’t cause any damage and I hope you don’t end up getting frozen like I have a feeling some people are going to be.

So anyway, now you know. Let’s cross our fingers that this doesn’t result in an R-word.

(Personally I just wish they would put in an official, legal way to preview dragons. I really see no reason why this would be a bad thing, and it seems to me it would cause a lot fewer headaches than having to deal with these sorts of issues all the time because people want to preview some non-existant dragons or find out what their dragons would look like without having to shell out the money for a scroll that might not even look good on a particular dragon. Seems to me it would also cut down on people getting scammed for loaning out their scrolls for previewing purposes.)

It's probably not the cause for the lag, it's probably not the cause of the glitch, but it IS why the site is down. Not because the previewer itself is doing much, but people apparently found a way to push that through and breed dragons that shouldn'tve been bred. (And, again, I'm not sure how true the claims that that has actually happened are. If someone did manage to do that, it's a huge design flaw.)

If the previewer/people breeding from the previewer was the reason nests were glitched, it'd either affect everyone or JUST the people who did that. The nest I bred BEFORE the trick was shown is glitched, as are nests of people I know decided not to use the previewer. Nests of some people who did it are just fine.

That makes me think it's just a regular old glitch. Maybe all of us who visited the site at a certain time or went to pages in a certain order got the bug. Maybe it's because of the time we clicked that final "incubate" button, or maybe it's because of the exact number of hours that passed between the fourth and fifth incubate. Maybe it's because we did gathering before breeding.

Glitches often don't have an obvious reason to happen. It took us quite a while to realize that the "51 PMs" glitch was related to the AH, didn't it? And we still don't know why the "8237589357 alerts" one happens. All the stars have to align just right for a glitch to come into play, usually.

It's easy to blame the previewer for the glitch, so that's what people on tumblr are doing.

I really really hope there's no rollback, though with something like this it's almost a certainty I'd think. I paid some of my debts this morning, and I really don't want that to mess up!

I certainly never used the preview thing because I hate messing about with stuff that shouldn't be used. And the clutch I had that was supposed to hatch today is bugged. I bred them far before any of this drama and didn't use a boon, so in that respect Aela is right. At least in my case, it has nothing to do with previewing stuff.

I only ever used it to look at preview babies to see if certain pairs made ugly hatchlings, I really hope I won't get banned for that, especially with people who were using it to exploit super hard and actually breed dragons they weren't supposed to. :/

I'm pretty sure you can't get in trouble for just previewing your dragons. My fiancee (while not a coder he is really tech savvy and he has basic code knowledge) is pretty sure that the previewing thing would be something that only you could see/do on your end and therefore should not affect the game.

It's the actual exploiting where things get tricky as, if what they're doing is real (when I went to that one guy's tumblr page, and then to his hatchery, and hovered over his "female" dragon it read as male), then that could lead to further exploits of garnering yourself more money and gems than you might legally be able to earn, on top of other things.

Aaahhhh alright. As long as nothing bad comes of it, I guess I don't have much to worry about.
It is a pain that people were using it in a way it shouldn't of been though.
