FPS Slow-Mo Lag Problem

Unread post by Silivren »

So my WoW has this problem where when I play(this started maybe a month ago if that?)that every so often in game I get a 2-3 minute lag spike where my fps drops to 1-2. It is pretty flipping terrible. I followed all standard WoW procedures. Updated video drivers etc, deleted WTF/Cache/Interface folder and restarted. Put my graphics all on low. NOTHING WORKS. I know my computer can run WoW it has done so fine since early vanilla. I just don't feel its a problem on my end since my computer plays ALL other games perfectly fine...

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Do you hit those lag spikes when there combat going on or do you just randomly get them?

They're very randomly placed. Sometimes I'm doing nothing at all and they're there.

Have you tried to disable all your addons? I find that sometimes when it's unexplainable lag issues, it can sometimes be because of an addon.

After I reset my interface last night it disabled all of my add-on's and I figured I'd just reinstall them today because it seemed to work but after an hour or so it did it again... So I know that's not it.

Ah, that sucks. :(
I hope you figure out what's causing the lag.

Since I had a similar problem (extremely low FPS at random, constant intervals) I'll ask you the same thing others asked me. You said you've been running WoW fine on that computer since vanilla... is it possible your video card is now considered obsolete by Blizzard's standards?

https://us.battle.net/support/en/articl ... rted-video is a list of supported cards. With every patch the graphics burden gets harder and harder on old cards.

I got a new, supported video card and it solved my issue.

What's your system's free memory like when it happens?

I find occasionally I get this when my memory drops too low. Mostly this is because I've had a lot of Wowhead pages open. Wowhead uses a LOT of bad Flash, and the Flash plugin (even the most recent) seems to me to be very memory leaky. Even after I close the browser I don't get all of the memory back. Once WoW starts getting choppy it doesn't seem to ever recover till I restart, though.

Ive read that the lag and recent freezes are to do with the new help browser thats in game now.

If you re-name the fille to something other than .exe apparently that fixes it (the help goes back to the pre 5.3 version).

This is where the file is: /World of Warcraft/utils/WowBrowserProxy.exe

I havent been getting lag but every 30 mins or so my game freezes for no reason. My fiance gets the same and both our computers are pretty good. I'm going to try the above fix :)

My memory is pretty good, it's annoying because my computers run fine before.. I've even run it with no extra pages open in the background. What would you rename the file to Castile? I've never heard of that and I checked my graphics card it still supports their game graphics and what have you.

Huh. I wonder if I'm having issues with that as well. On Mac the help browser refuses to even display anything if I try to open a ticket. Just a white page. It's awful. (And that is after clearing cache and deleting WTF and no addons).

Yeah a few of my friends have gotten the horrid FPS drops. It's making WoW unplayable and if I cant find a fix then I'm quitting its simple as that. I don't want to pay for a game I'm not playing.

/run SetCVar("raidFramesDisplayIncomingHeals",1)

Try typing in that, then /console reloadui

That helped my FPS problems when the patch hit. See if it does anything.

Oh yes, there was that problem too for a lot of people. You can tell if it's affecting you if you've noticed the following: hostile mobs showing up marked Unconscious and/or as NPCs (instead of red enemy bars they have blue-ish bars).

I tried this and it sadly didn't help. I'm not sure what the problem is and already talked to a GM and they basically said we cant help you.

Hmm for me cleaning my computer of dust helped. No idea if it is related though.
