Bye Bye Birdy?

Unread post by Aleu »

I have been seriously considering dropping well... Aotona. Yes I know her model is unique and she's beautiful at that. I had tamed her partly as a trophy and partly as a PvP pet, however...

When I compare her to my cat in PvP, her disarm effect is nice, but she dies a lot more often then my kitty does. When I take her into BGs, I find myself having to rez her a lot more then I do my cat or any of my other pets.

I know they said in Cataclysm our stable would be expanded, so it's possible for me to get her back around then. Northrend is unaffected so she won't vanish. The only thing is I spent two weeks camping her.

If I did drop her, I have a few choices -

1. I could get another Spirit Beast. Mainly Skoll.
2. I could get another Cunning pet, perhaps a Spider or Crab. Though my cat actually does rather well in PvP.
3. I could get a Tenacity pet for soloing stuff. My choices on that is a Warp Stalker or a Bear.
4. I could shoot for another trophy pet like my Devilsaur. I only really ever use my wolf or cat for things.

So what do you think? Should I drop the bird for something else?

Hmm, well I think that if you can toss around the idea of letting her go without flinching it's probably a good sign that there might be a pet out there you'd connect with more.

I'd say it will be much easier to hunt for rares such as the ones in Sholazar once Cataclysm comes around as the zone will be much less populated.

I know the feeling of wanting to go tame new pets but having no room, so if you don't think you'd miss Aotona I'd say go for it and get her back later if you want. :)

Yeah, if you don't really feel like you want her, there's no use holding onto her. Perhaps another trophy pet will fill her gap, since you say you use your cat for PvP.

It doesn't sound like there's a connection. Go ahead and release her. You can always re-tame her later if it was meant to be.

I wouldn't release her. You spend two weeks trying to get her, so were I you I'd hang on to her. You say you tamed her for PvP but your cat does better - I would suggest that before you release her, spend more time playing around with the Snatch ability and try to see if you can't get more out of it in a PvP situation. Sometimes we overlook applications and use of some abilities. Do some research on using Snatch in PvP and maybe you'll find it just takes a different approach to the pet and you'll find a new bond.

I released mine make room for a spirit beast... same with the rare gorilla out of Un'Goro and Rak'shiri. I liked the designs of them, but didn't really feel anything after that. The only reason I leveled my hunter was to get the SBs. Now I'm the proud owner of all 4. The only thing that would make me release Gondria before cata would be King Krush. I do plan on get Rak'shiri back after Cata though.

I'd say release it and get something you like better.

I know sometimes it's hard to get trapped by the feeling of 'This is a rare pet and/or I spent a lot of time looking for it' feeling. In the past I've practically guilt-tripped myself into keeping certain pets just due to their rarity or specialness even when I didn't end up bonding with them at all. It's good to step back and determine whether you really want the pet or if you might find another out there that would click far better. :)

Yeeaaah, I'm gonna go ahead and let her go. I just don't feel attached to her that much anymore. Kinda hard, but it's okay. She'll be back in my Stables come Cataclysm. =D It'll be a bit easier to camp her then as well then it would be now. I just need to figure out what to replace her with.

No PvP pet. x.x

I think it's down to another Spirit Beast or Tenacity. ;3 Or a trophy pet. I've been tempted to keep the Ghost Saber or Araga in my stable just in case they do go bye bye. >_>

That's so strange I went through the same thing with aotona this week myself. It's rare and actually pretty adorable -- but in all honesty for my playstyle totally useless to me. Aotona would be a glorified vanity pet in my stable and I really need/want something for pvp utility for that slot.

In the end I took a screenshot then let it go. Got a plain old Emperor Cobra from the basin for pvp and I couldn't be happier (that poison spit is great). I'll miss aotona for being such a cute bird though.

I did see it 2 times this week alone so don't be sad you'll have aotona again someday!

I have Aotona as well, she was the one I was thinking about getting rid of for Krush but decided against it. For pvp I do agree that that bird gets owned pretty fast lol, maybe the horde just didnt like a flying parrot in their face but she ends up dead most often then not. I am hoping to learn to pvp more with her, if not I just bring my spirit beasts.
Is there a particulair skin out there you like? Or one that has your fancy? Maybe something you tamed before and want back?
I personally love Loque, Skoll and even Gondria's skin. Arcturis is nice to if you like bears :)
so you can always try and tame a few and see if you click with them.

I had been thinking of releasing my Aotona, too, to get my chimaera again. But...I just can't do it. Even if she's only a trophy pet for me, she's still special and I know I'd never be able to find her again (my brother's the one that found her in the first place, not me). I don't even know that I'd really want to look for her in Cataclysm if I did release her. So I figure I'll just wait it out. I don't pvp that much anyway, and the few times I do, I take my tallstrider. So, I'll hang onto Jasmine and when Cataclysm comes around, she'll just be a pretty parrot that I use to run around in Stormwind with. :)

It was a bit hard letting her go...

On the bright side, I found Skoll in about two an a half hours of camping. 8D He spawned in the place I least thought he would. I was convinced he'd pop at the Disk. He popped south of the Temple of Storms. .-.

Oh well, I likely won't use him much, but he's still my baby.
