You should say "ok we'll inroduce a natural predator and that will kill them for us! That worked soooo well with Cane Toads in Australia right?" I'm all for not being cruel to animals but groups like PETA take it way too far.

indeed. I think there is a differecne between killing pest animals and animal cruelty. One is helping the enviroment and the other is just being a bag of dicks!

PETA do some real good and are constantly getting inside info into places that promote animal cruelty so we can see what's going on in there, but there's downsides to everything that's good, isn't there? PETA *insist* that everyone go vegan. Plus I don't promote their form of euthanasia. Doesn't that word essentially mean to put something out of it's misery? Well they don't do that, they kill animals off because 'there's not enough room'. Also it's been proven once or twice that plenty of PETA volunteers and workers don't take good care of the animals that do make it in there. I really don't know what to think of them anymore. :/

However I did see this the other day and it made me laugh:

But that label... 'Best before death'? So, what, vegans would rather we ate the animal while it's still alive? ... Okay then.

Absolutely!

It might also help educate some people who aren't aware that meat comes from animals in the first place... which would be my rant if I could be bother typing it all up. If you eat meat you should at least be aware of the source! I don't care whether you're city-born&bred, that's one level of ignorance way too far in my book!

Just so people don't get all up in arms at me, I'm not saying that all vegans think like this and I know plenty of vegans myself who facepalm at the ideas. I just really, really hate the sort of people who think you're a really horrible person if you eat meat, who pressure you into being vegan, etc.

But, erm, I can't say I was aware there were people on this planet that weren't aware of where meat came from. I... I have no actual words.

Actual rant: Erm... Thanks, random housemate, for stealing my toothpaste? As in... removing it from the bathroom entirely. I... I don't even know why you'd do that and replace it with your own but er... I guess I'll use yours from now on then? I have no idea what your intentions are and... I'm just kinda confused.

Meat comes from animals of all kinds. Where the hell else would it come from? XD I can't fathom not knowing that.

As for your housemate....you're better off not knowing what exactly they did with it. Trust me.

I'd love to see a 'slaughtered on' date on my food. I have no idea how long stuff sits around and honestly I have my suspicions that it's longer than is entirely safe. "Best before" dates are also arbitrary and entirely up to the discretion of the packagers, so sometimes you end up with stuff that says it's good when it isn't, and conversely, things that are labeled as expired when they really aren't (so you buy more/more often).

As for PETA... they infuriate me, and I love animals. (Though I also very much draw the line between food/resource animals and pets...)

Did you know that both PETA and the Humane Society of America (which is by the way NOT associated with your local humane societies in any way shape or form) condone the automatic euthanasia of dogs they 'rescue' from fighting rings? Because they're 'unsavable'?

Well, Tucson (where I live) has a dog fighting problem. OUR humane society rescues dogs from pit mills all the time. The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has what they call 'Canine College' where rescued dogs (the ones that aren't fine from the get-go anyway) are gently taught that not all humans are assholes. Very, very rarely do we (I volunteer for them) get an animal that's completely irredeemable; most of the time they come around with really, not a whole lot of effort. Pits are smart dogs and just need a little time and care to learn how to behave.

(Just an FYI, if you want to know about mean dogs... Bassets, man. Lord.)

Pretty much this. They think its ok to bully someone and belittle them because they were "passionate" about their cause. I'm sorry but no. I even said "look i understand where food comes from, I have family members who have farms. Heck one friend shows her kids exactly where dinner comes from by raising pigs and goats then cooking them." I showed the thread on facebook to my vego mate and she just scoffed at them saying "sounds like their the ones trying to justify their choices, not you".

I should of known though that post was going to be full of fail. The guy that started it once tried to tell everyone that atheist's are more intelligent than people who believe in a god cause he'd read some paper on the internet (snort) about it. Ok. So if you're so awesome (we went to a Anglican school btw) why did we all pass high school the first go and you had to repeat it??

You know another thing that bothers me is that people think all Aetheists are mean angry hatefull people. I'm an Aetheist and I was brought up as one and I'm not a mean hateful person :/

Just pointing it out...but I've noticed in the recent "topics" that when somebody mentions they dislike or hate "insert group/fandom/etc name" somebody else pipes up about how they are a part of that "insert..." and take offense to it. and the replies have pretty much been the equivalent of "sorry, I don't mean all are like that..."
Can we not just come to the realisation that this is a RANT thread and as such things are often more bluntly stated without the finess of specification?
So when someone mentions they dislike or hate "insert group/fandom/etc name" we can intelligently assume that they are refering to individuals within that (ie the ones who ARE bad/extreme) and are not refering to the Intellegent/respectful members withing that "insert group/fandom/etc name".

I do not think that people come to a rant thread to have every use of thier words picked apart. I think people come to a rant thread to rant/vent and feel a bit better about getting something off their chest.

I dislike self modders. That's the mods job not yours.

Case in point when people list out the rules of a thread and go "guys follow these". You always look like a uptight person when you do that. Just let the mods do it for christ sake! If you feel the need to do that just click the report button so the mods can deal with it. It's not really any of your beeswax.

this is probably going to seem out of the blue but something that's been chafing my jimmies lately are people on tumblr (probably elsewhere but I see it on tumblr) that get all huffy and upset about 'fostering unrealistic body images' and how it's horrible to judge people as inferior that don't have an idealized/too thin figure and how the Gap/Tommy Hilfiger/etc are horrible people for pretending heavy people don't exist, and so on and so forth...

and then every other post is them fawning over a doll that looks like this:

uh, hypocritical much? She looks like a strung out heroin addict (all the dolls this person fangirls about do.)
I mean, sure, there's lots of work in these ball-joint dolls and all that, but to spend one post ranting about how Barbie is self-image destroying and sexist, and then post this? Uh. Yeah. Remind me not to listen to you anymore.

This. Please. Just... stop people. I felt bad after I posted my brony rant which is why I made such a huge apology, because a lot of it was also said without thinking, but again, it's a *rant* thread. I think I'm allowed to come here and rant without thinking, really. While I still feel bad about what I did, and kinda wish I'd kept my mouth shut, I see a lot of people getting offended over other people's posts. :/ Obviously I think there's some very sensitive topics being picked up recently but, for example, it was more than obvious Castile wasn't judging each and every Atheist. Also, I'm not entirely sure if there's limits on what people can rant about, but I seriously doubt anyone's going to pop up here and start ranting about how much they hate gays, for example. I can only imagine the shitstorm if that happened! (Even if gay people are the reason we're having bad weather here in the UK, apparently. *dies laughing*)

Anyway, heck, this Journeyman uni project has barely started and I'm stressed already. I feel like I shouldn't be. Everyone else seems so excited for it, and one of the leads is even a good friend of mine who tells me everything, so I was in the know about my team before... well... anyone else was. I should feel lucky, and kinda privileged, especially because it's looking like she's even let me had a concept art role, which is exactly what I wanted to do. But I'm so nervous... Team work is also stressful in one way or another, and I got stressed with last year's group project and that was just a team of six people... now there's 16 of us. x___x 4 of those people have a chance to make my life a living hell for the next three months.

There's also a girl in my group I despise. (When she was offered a junior lead role, she declined it because 'she wanted the main lead role'. Reminds me of bratty kids at Christmas who got a car but wanted an iPhone instead. I'm kinda glad that when she announced this out loud in the lecture hall, everyone laughed at her.) She's also well known for being very stuck-up and refusing to help people with work because 'we should already know this stuff'. I really hope she isn't as bad as they claim. But... I might not have to see her much anyway. I don't know yet. I'm kinda excited, but even more nervous. :/
