So the latest PTR files are now public. Details on the model:

- there's only one colour, which isn't too surprising really, given the model's associations. But it would have still been exciting to find other colours
- despite a few similarities in aesthetics to the thunder isle birds, and even the storm crow, the skin is an entirely different layout. No skin swapping.
- all the bling is in a separate image, which means the base skin is pretty complete, except for a few small things like toenails. So it doesn't seem too hard for them to produce a wild version. The model would have to be modified a little, though, as the armour is important for its overall shape. Without armour, the current bird has slightly clipped wings, no talons and a bit of a flat head. Not too far off, though:

I thought of making a screenie of the armorless model for a bit, but decided against it. Yeah, it's a nice models, but a shame about the lack of fully modeled talons. They could fix that.



Would be an awesome hunter pet model. Though, that may just be me thinking any cool animal would be a great hunter pet. I doubt we'll ever get it as a tameable creature, so..

We can always hope they decide there's enough justification to develop a wild version for appearances in Draenor, which means we could easily get a tameable version as a byproduct. But like you I won't my hopes up... I hoped the same thing about the Thunder Isle birds but in the end I believe they were wasted as minor parts in a single raid encounter and they added superfluous old-model birds to the island instead.

Myeah. Even if a beast version (without the nails gone, and maybe a head that isn't as flat) doesn't seem likely, much less the chance that that would become tameable, it would still be a cool addition to the bird family. They have a lot of models, but none of them that are really recent, or high-quality. I mean.. normal birds, not undead birds, or critter-models.


And going by the quality of this mount, they could make a sick new bird model. Maybe they'll get some love in WoD again. For now, the pet I want most is the Dragonfly (if they stick to the concept art) because it looks primal and awesome, but I think we could surely use new bird pets with up-to-date models that will look good next to our updated character models. And by the based Gods, we really need an update tarantula. So much potential there!

Wow, think i may be buying the CE now. I am really in love with this model currently.
Mostly due to the fact that Anzu is probably my most favorite mount in wow. It's pretty neat that we get to see original version of him when he was in his prime and before Draenor went and exploded. Also, that baby Anzu is way to adorable. <3

I have a feeling this model is going to be used by an important NPC, maybe some Anzu ancestor or arrakoan deity or something. It is absolutely gorgeous though.

Thanks for the minipet CE confirmation I've updated WCM to indicate the increased likelihood this is the CE mount. I just can't report it as certain till we get confirmation

That comparison shot that Quivering posted makes it look like Anzu got all old and floppy.

I much prefer the armourless version I have to say. I find that the armour they slap all over mounts these days can hide a lot of the beauty underneath. :/ I'm not fond of that pet though. It would be cute if the textures weren't so blurred, but that's a problem they seem to have for all mini pets for some reason.

Yeah, whoever did this redesign really is very talented. They managed to make an uncorrupted, much higher quality model without losing any of the essence of the original.

Random musing, but I really adore how heavy and old it looks. The way its head sags and it holds its wings makes it look ancient and weary, like a vulture or something. Compared to Anzu, who looks very energetic, it's like the prehistoric ancestor- which I suppose it is!
