How long for a newbie to level

Unread post by Cedric »

I have watched my friend play wow and get the main idea but I really want to get some of those cool high level pets... How hard and long would it take to get to the higher levels?

Right now? Not long at all, depending on your play style. WoW has changed a lot over the years. Leveling is quick and easy in most cases. There are also bonus's to leveling to boost the speed even faster.. Such as recruit a friend, heirloom gear and perks from high leveled guilds.

Siggy under construction!

Luckily, all the fox colors are available at low level. And if you roll a Pandaren hunter, you can get a Pandaren tiger in their starting zone. There are some cool ghostly wolves at low level, too!

Welcome! Welcome!
As already there is a lot of variables.

I know as a start out, bare minimum you could potentially do 10 levels in a long play session starting at level one. Long meaning 4-6 hours. And that's not hardcore grinding

But those don't really apply to me due to not having a high level guild, or a character to give myself heirlooms lol

I would say try out the game for free, or maybe get the battle-chest.

If you decide you like wow, then you can get a free level 90 character when you buy Warlords of Draenor, which is the next expansion.

Wait what? Obviously I am behind on this. Is this true? Does it level your guy or do you buy the game and it lets you make a premade level 90?

WoD will let you make one character level 90, either a new one or one of your current characters. If you get the digital edition, you can have the level 90 immediately, rather than waiting until WoD launches.

There is speculation that pre-ordering for the digital edition will be enabled Soon™. It is also strongly suspected that we will be able to buy additional 90s, but I'm not sure there has been an official announcement about that.

It depends on how long you want to wait. When the next expansion comes out, you get one character boosted all the way to level 90. Even if you do that, I'd suggest playing around with the game a little first, so that figure out which race/gender you want to use your boost on.

You can get into a high level guild with no problem at all. Just run around guildless and you'll be spammed with guild invites. Or join your friend's guild. Or at least his server (so he can loan you some cash). You can get +experience items that scale with your level. Hat, Cape, andPants can be bought with gold, if your guild has the right achievements (once you get enough rep with a guild, which shouldn't take long). Also, during the first full week of every month, you can go to the fairgrounds and get another experience bonus.

There's different strategies people use for leveling, I prefer to do quests while in a queue for a dungeon, changing zones whenever there's a new higher level one that I can get higher experience quests from (be careful if you're about to level up, it removes you from dungeon queues, so you do end up loitering during this time). I try to know where the nearby rare spawns... spawn. They give a decent chunk of xp when you kill them.

I know other people level almost exclusively in battlegrounds, but if you level with quests/dungeons, you'll be able to pay for riding and flying skills easily when you get to those levels.

How fast you level depends on how much long you are on at a time. If you aren't on long enough for a dungeon queue to pop (and for you to run it), then you won't level as fast.

I have seen people say they can go from 1 to 90 in 3 days but I don't believe it. It would take me 3 8 hour days to even reach 25. The first 10 levels go very fast but progressively take longer after that . I have a toon at 58 with full heirlooms and it takes me a full day to reach the next level. I only level through questing however. I don't grind at all, don't run any dungeons, and ignore all professions on my alts.

its hard to give you an answer since there are lots of things to consider. if its your first time playing it will take you longer than normal to level since you will still be learning stuff and mapping out new zones for the first time. it took me three months to level my first toon but things have changed since then. once you hit level fifteen just run lots of dungeons until your lower 50s then switch to questing until you qualify for outland dungeons. then switch back to questing at 65-66. do a mix of questing an dungeons from 69-75 then from then on you are pretty much just questing till 90.
I haven't played wow in a long time so im just guessing and going on memory here but:
lvl 1-10 took about an hour. 10-50 I don't know... 4 to 6 days of solid leveling? 3-4 days for 60-70, maybe 5-6 days for 70-80, a week for 80-85 and another week to go 85-90. but I usually leveled with heirlooms and knew the questlines and areas well and had lots of free time so those are all things you have to factor into your experience. My advice is to just enjoy the leveling experience. everything is all shiny and new your first time around and should be enjoyed.

As others have said, it all depends upon how much time you devote to leveling each week. Personally, I tend to run a combination of questing and dungeons when leveling a character.

A couple things I'd suggest (especially since you don't have heirlooms) are to visit the Darkmoon Fair whenever it's going on and ride the carousel for the xp boost, and to do daily quests whenever possible, especially any holiday-related dailies. During the recent Love is in the Air holiday, my little disc priest went from 17 to 25 just from doing the three available dailies. Even without holiday stuff, the the cooking and fishing dailies will give you a decent chunk of xp at low levels.
