Not sure who made the screenshot, but regarding me linking it.. no worries, guys! Saw it and thought you guys would appreciate it. Glad I was right.

Also, much to my chagrin, no Dragonfly model yet (really want to see it badly), but while there isn't a Dragonfly model, the closest you can get to it is looking at this PvP bow, which is made up of Dragonfly parts. It's sort of an indication (or it could be) of the detail of the Dragonfly, or at least parts of it, like the tail and the claw.. scythe.. things.

So what's the difference between a Dragonfly and a Hook Wasp, anyway? Are they in the same pet family?

If I'm not mistaken, they're the same thing. I think they were called "Hook Wasps" in development, based on the concept art, and the family name is called Dragonfly in game, probably because it sounds a little better (At least to me. Hook Wasp does sound scarier though. )

I was led to believe it was the other way around. The concept art was referred to as a "dragonfly" at Blizzcon, but it's subsequently been referred to as a hook wasp. The first reference I saw was Jeremy Feasel's tweet here:
https://twitter.com/Muffinus/status/447125985335336960

And confirmed that hook wasp is still the name of the family here:
https://twitter.com/Muffinus/status/452601041033261056

I was kinda glad of the name change, as I'd been hoping for a dragonfly for some time, but thought this thing looked nothing like one in the concept art.

So, after see the new wolves in action (On MMO Champ now for viewing), as much as I was quite excited about them, once animated I just can't move past how big their heads are. I mean, to the point I don't think I'll tame one after all. I think it's in combination with the head and the fur/mane,it's just so boxy up the front it look almost like a boar more than a wolf? I think it's also because it's on the coyote skeleton (that I love btw) which was designed for a more slender model. :(

I'm a bit disappointed the boars use the direhorn skeleton rather than y'know, the boar skeleton, but they still look amazing so it's easy to look past. I just love the boar skeleton's running animation and such. But I guess it would be hard to run like that with all those muscles. :P The direhorn walk/run definitely gives them a powerful, badass look.

I also agree the wolves' heads are a bit too big when theyre on the coyote skeleton. With the worg skeleton they don't look nearly as top-heavy imo, but I still love them. It wouldn't be all that difficult for blizz to shrink their heads a bit I wouldn't think? Or rather, the fur on the back of their neck. After all this is still alpha. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, remember when quilen looked like this ? :)

Plus all the animation issues and tests they went through. It felt like a different skeleton every week for a while. But they got there. And that was during beta, which we haven't even reached yet with WoD. So there's hopefully plenty of time for them to perfect the new models :)

It's still good that people note any issues, of course, but don't panic :)

MMO-C posted a model shot of a wild chimaera with a different colour. I clipped it and added it to the OP, so now we have two different looks at least.

I love the new wolves even more now :D so happy they have the beautiful "flowing" coyote run. The head is bigger than usual, but not -too- big, and makes the look all the more savage and ferocious. And those flaming eyes - purrrfect!
My main is getting the red one and naming him Horo :D

I'm not that much into the steroids talbuks, I liked the slender and graceful old ones more, but I do appeciate the flowwing tail. I only hope they'll make the flow more flowing, like they did with panda-nixes. Rigt now it's more like a squirrel tail than a horse one.

I really don't like that the boars go onto the direhorn skeleton for one single reason - there's no proper run there. It's just the same trot as with the walk, just much faster - so much that in game, where hunter pets gets squished in size compared to their wild versions, it may just look riddiculous. Endearing maybe, sure, but still riddiculous.

click the "new model" under the wolf pic and the modelviewer will open. It works much better than for character models apparently :)

Bleh, yeah. As they are right now I'm...not sure if I want one at all. I've been waffling over this new model since we got the first previews, I'll just have to wait and see what they're like in game and if they end up with any changes.

Talbuks were one of my favourite species and the more I look at the new models the less I'm liking them. They hardly seem like the same creature. I'm just relieved that we've still got the BC models in game to look at. I'm fine with some things getting different, bulkier models. The boars make sense and look really good, but I have to say I'm unenthused about all of the steroid animals in total.

I don't like being negative, I still think a lot of things look good, but I just have this lingering feeling of "meh" towards this new art direction.
