Still looking for my hero class (rant)

Unread post by Redith »

This isn't a "help me pick a class" topic, just a rant. Feel free to throw advice if you want though

I have played a hunter...forever lol. I love watching a cat or wolf run full speed at a mob as I peg it with powerful arrows, or watching a big monster go head to head with my Devilsaur or Corehound. However.. I feel too much like some support class... And maybe that's what hunters are supposed to be, a support class back with the casters. So I decided to roll a one of the more.. heroic classes, Shaman, Death Knight, Warrior, Paladin. However I have watched gameplay and tried to level a few of them...and just can't. It is kind of annoying knowing I am a one trick pony...or player. That for the rest of my wow playing I will be just a back up DPS player... Oh well, maybe when the new dragon age comes out I can feel like the hero again lol

It's kinda funny, but I find hunters to be quite the hero class. We can dish out massive damagd, bring all sorts of buffs, cc several creatures at once, switch to tank mode in a matter of seconds, and toss out some life saving heals! On top of all that we can leap off any height and live, temporily nulify damage, we can make any target attack any party/raid member we want, and we can drop aggro instantly, surviving when everyone else dies. We can also stealth, battle rez, hero, and have a temporarily immortal pet. I don't know of any other class that is as versatile as the hunter.

^ sums it up for me. Just because you are not close enough to count the scales on a dragon when you fight it doesn't make it any less impressive when you kill it. If you are not content to sit in the back during a fight then go out and push the limits of your character in other ways. min/max for the best dps you can pull, or go see how many bosses you can solo. practice some pvp. learn and expand as you would with any other class. I have been playing a hunter for five years and I am always advancing and learning new tricks.
out pets make us incredibly flexible. like water that can freeze into any shape, we have a spell for every situation. want us to be the shammy? boom hero. oh, healer needs a brez? good thing i'm ranged, I'm right next to the dead healer. boom, brez. tank died? pet has that covered. pvp? explosive trap and steath- I can defend LM solo.
I don't think blizzard ever meant for a single class to be the hero. they wanted the player to be the hero and their character to be their icon.

Sure hunter class is versatile, but even when was the last time you saw a WoW lore hunter hero. (Rexxar doesn't count, he is more of a ...shaman or warrior with a bear lol)

Let's see, there were the Windrunner sisters for starters. Arguably more Ranger than Hunter, but few things in the lore are as clear-cut class-wise I'd say.

Tyrande Whisperwind on the other hand is firmly hunter material, with Trueshot aura and pets both.

If you're looking Horde side, look no further than your Warchief! ;)

I think Shadow Hunters are kind of a cross between witch-doctors and axe/spear throwers. Some of that they gave to shaman, and some of that just isn't implemented.

How about a druid? There's a lot of druid lore, especially on alliance.

I was thinking druid, especially bear, but not a tank person. I wish there was a weapon and shield dps class...2 weapons and a huge weapon is not something im a big fan of

What worked for on somewhat of a situation like this was it wasn't the class I was having a problem with. It was race. My warrior is my prime example. I tried multiple races. Than one day said to myself. Orc! Orcs scream warriors to me. I hadn't tried that race yet. I also thought of a great name in my opinion. So far she and I are clicking. So maybe try a plate class of different races and looks. That may help you. Variety is the spice of life they say. Lol
