Half Assed Art....
So I was inspired by this thread over here -------> http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 53&t=22388
I was very excited and was working hard on a concept until the computer crashed and I lost most of it. What I had left was a compressed version with no layers which was just unworkable. To be honest I've just given up on it and can't bring myself to do it again...
Anyway, may I present some 1/2 assed art.
Inspiration came from the revision of Zangar marsh into Zangar Sea, namely the Fenstriders. I watered down their body construct (pun intended) and try to envision what it may work well as in it was from the sea.
Taking into account 1st hand experience from our local Blue Bottles in Australia /shudder (aka. Man O' War), I ended up with (a not quite finished) attempt at how a Fen Strider could have once been a Fen Stinger.
((Please note that the colours, colours missing, concept, shading, background, and ideas are not really what I wanted or had in mind as a final, just could not bear bringing myself to start over.))

Oh its still great! I like how the fin looks like the top of the Blue Box!
Maybe we could suggest a quest where you have to kill x amount and the reward is a bottle of vinager for the sting!! (or pee depending on what urban myth you follow )

That's a brilliant concept It fits just perfectly. And the light fits as an attractor of sea life to kill and eat. That seems to be a very common concept in the ocean.

Re: Half Assed Art....
Thanks Guys and Girls
For eg.
Yeps, the Light was there to attract prey up to the surface (especially at night, I had visions of a small pockets of blooms, floating out on the seas horizon, with them glowing in the night and with the water rippling it's reflection) for feeding. Ahhhh so pretty….yet Savage!
The front pinchers/claws (Which were not finished or coloured) were now feeder filters designed to trawl the water for food and also create chemicals to break down larger prey, not dissimilar to of our sea life.
Eg.
The 4 Neon spines were now much thinner but had a webbing on them, made of the same transparent rubbery material as the floating body and frill (Which were not finished or coloured) that with angling, could be used a small sails/wind rudders to guide it in certain directions when the wind is up.
Also the side wings and now submerge (Again, which were not finished or coloured) which are used as a means of prolusion and movement when the water is fairy still.
There was also supposed to be anemone like tentacles on the underbelly which also had powerful toxins and strength to hold larger prey while slowly being broken down at the front end.
etc, etc, etc
Oh sweet, glad you picked that up. There's a lot of thought into it, but just had to let it go.Wain wrote:That's a brilliant concept It fits just perfectly. And the light fits as an attractor of sea life to kill and eat. That seems to be a very common concept in the ocean.

If that's half ass I cannot wait to see what the full effort would look like. That's stunning.

Re: Half Assed Art....
If that's half-assed, I can't wait- oh, yeah. I already have seen some of your other work.
My only criticism: I feel, for an ancestor to Fen Strider from millions of years ago, it's maybe a little too similar. I love the changes you made to the Fen Strider itself, maybe exaggerate them and change the body shape a little bit and you'll have yourself a solid little evolution line going there.

Re: Half Assed Art....
Just a quick question, why did you remove then Fen Strider's glowing lure-like tentacles?

Ah gotcha, I thought it was an artistic and aesthetic decision based on his beliefs of Fen Strider's pre-evolutions diet etc.Wain wrote:His follow-up post explains he lost a lot of the next stage of the art when his computer crashedpop wrote:Just a quick question, why did you remove then Fen Strider's glowing lure-like tentacles?
