you can't even eat at - heaven forfend - McDonald's for $5.
Some people are on limited budgets, and that $5 can exceed their allotted spending money. I dunno Sukurachi, $12/month for entertainment is pretty cheap, cheaper then going to see a single movie at the theater now days. Cheaper then one meal while out and about. Cheaper then a lot of things.

I happily pay $12/month for my entertainment, even if that extra $5 puts the mount outside my budget. Even poor people or people on limited budgets deserve to be able to find some joys in life without someone telling them they shouldn't...
You seem to be missing the point.

If $5 makes a radical difference to your monthly finances, then a mount - whether at $25 or at $30 - should automatically be out of the equation.

If you can afford a $25 mount in your limited budget, then just wait a month, and you'll have $50 to spend on a mount. It's not like they are coming out with new store items every other day.

This whole drama over a $5 difference in price is silly.

I'm sorry but it $5 is going to "make or break" then save for it? And don't tell me you can't save on a limited budget. I can. Just put $5 away for a bit or something.

Um, not for nothing... and take this as opinion and nothing more.

*I* am on a very very limited budget-- WoW time ITSELF is a LUXURY, folks... all of you going on and on about that five dollars being a horrible price hike on wow store mounts; you don't NEED the mount to have an amazingly wonderful time in game. Be glad you can afford the 20 a month to play -- I am never sure if I can get that next month's card, so I am glad each and every time I can.

I logged in yesterday and as I auto log into trade chat, I was hit for over an hour about how Blizzard is "ripping people off" and "how DARE they have a thirty dollar mount"!

The mount does NOT change gameplay-- whether you ride a pretty nightsaber you get as a faction mount, or a lovely glowy Hearthsteed with fancy animation that you got FREE, or whether you have the cash to blow for this mount and all the others... nothing IN GAMEPLAY changes. Your toons are not altered on whether or not you can afford this mount. THere are more mounts out there that you can get in game free that are JUST as nice, if not nicer in some cases.

If you dearly want this new mount, do what I do when I want new art supplies; pull out your budget, and each week put a buck or so in a jar. Do without eating out-- Ramen is a lovely lunch, and so are loads of other healthy alternatives you can do instead. Choose to forego renting or going to a movie (the last movie I've gone out to see was more than EIGHT years ago) or buying a new book (libraries are GOOD things!) or CD, or whatever.... eventually you'll have the cash for it, if you still even want it by then.

Do I sound patronizing? I'm not; I work as a contract employee who often has to deal with hunting for work months at a time, living off savings and having to budget for some serious medical needs for myself and my disabled wife. I *choose* to have cats, and my monthly wow bill is my one big luxury as I still love playing after all these years. Put the mount in perspective-- its an EXTRA and something you might want, but hardly need; don't let your having or not having it ruin your time.

::shrug:: Just another perspective on it.

How much is a can of soda in the US?! I can buy 6 of those for 5$ and still have 50 cents left here in Quebec.

Around where I live, a bottle of soda from a vending machine will be about $1-1.50 depending on where you're buying it. But I live in the middle of nowhere- when I went to a big city, a bottle of soda was $3.50!

*Cough* off topic.

That said, the points raised here about the insignificance of that $5 are pretty solid. I think I'm mostly miffed because I want it but I'm a penny pincher. ...Then again, it's cheaper than rolling up a new alt account just for Recruit-a-Friend!

I agree with Suku. No ones saying to deny ppl little luxuries (hell I was in the position once where playing wow was alot cheaper than going out) but if $5 extra is out of your budget then maybe just wait for a sale. Hopefully they won't be that price for very long anyway.

The whole Blizz is ripping us off point is very interesting especially as no one is making anyone buy these vanity items...its like saying Louis Vuitton is charging too much for its bags /rolleyes.

The list of what things cost for $5 is pretty interesting too - I live in one of Australias most expensive cities so what does $5 buy me...

Coffee - $4
Small bottle of coke (soda) - $4.50
Chocolate bar - $2.50-$3.50
Bus ride (20mins - 2 zones) - $2.40
McDonalds "loose change" meal (small burger, fries and drink) - $5.00

not alot it seems! I do understand that $5 is alot to some ppl - please don't think we are trivilising peoples situations but I don't think its worth getting upset over either.

I can't afford it right now... so I'm not buying it right now. 8D I mean... if they haven't retired the sparklepony by now, this one is for suresies going to be around for plenty long enough for me to pick it up when I have more expendable cash/still think I want it.

I think the base root of this issue (re: tradechat kvetching) is less 'blizzard is gouging us' and more 'wow that's a really badass omfg neato mount and I don't want everyone in WoW to have it because I consider myself a L33T player and therefore only I should be able to have it because I'm willing to camp a spawn point for weeks/have a raid group that will help me get it'.

I mean hell, I want the Bumper Fun Wolf but because I'm not buddies with any raid guilds, nor do I have the obscene amount of ingame gold required to buy a run (and I kinda object to breaking my bank and giving shit tons of gold to someone that I don't think needs it), I really doubt I'll get it. It has little to do with personal skill; I HAVE the skill to do those fights... or time (I have plenty of time), it's just a complete lack of opportunity and/or disposable income.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

Atleast someone understands how tight a budget can be. Our finances have been super tight lately. My fiance still hasn't been able to even get his WoD Preorder or the chimera....We're trying to watch our money so we don't have to dip into our wedding funds. Not sure why some don't get that the extra $5 can be costly these days. Maybe for them it's not but for my family, every penny counts right now. Will we buy it eventually? Probably. But please don't accuse anyone of saying 'blizz is gouging!' when that's not the case(least not here anyway). It's actually a bit hurtful that no one is putting themselves in others financial situational shoes, really. Out of 4 people in my household, only my fiance is employed(He gets paid about $15 an hour but he's lucky to get 10 hours a week...maybe). His Step-father can't work and is working with the lawyers to get disability after being denied the first time. His mother just got laid off from her contract and is seeking new employment. I'm in school trying to get my degree. The $15 doesn't hit us hard...but two $15s ontop of possibly two $30s(That's $10 extra from just two $25s)? That does hit us hard and we just can't do it right now. I'm hoping it'll go on sale in December. If it were a $25 mount, we wouldn't have to wait for a sale necessarily.

To those that do understand what it's like, thank you for understanding. It really means a lot.
To those that don't, I hope this gave you an idea of how that extra $5 can actually hurt, even if it looks small. Not saying Blizz is gouging. They can price whatever they want.

You still can save for it even on a tight budget. Just put a bit away untill you have enough to pay for it. I live on a very tight budget and I do that.

A lot harder to do when one person is supporting an entire household, cow. Food stamps takes a bit of the load off of food costs, I'll admit. If I was employed or his mom got another contract job or the disability place didn't reject his step-father, we'd be fine. His mother becoming unemployed this month was....unexpected. Her contract wasn't supposed to be up til the end of June.

Like I said, we'll get it eventually. Just not right now.

My personal rule is I will not spend a dollar more than is necessary to play the basic version of the game. I can afford it but I choose not to cross that line (personal slippery slope). Yet I've gotten all the store mounts and pets.

If you have gold, desirable tradeable items like gear, crafted mounts, pets, or can provide in-game services (i.e. raid kills, mount farming) you can pretty easily get things gifted to you. This mount isn't giftable yet but it probably will be in a week or two.

Just throwing it out there for those who want the shiny things, but don't want to spend cash.

EDIT: Of course let me add (since I just logged into the game and saw trade spam), this does not mean you should make deals with shifty sellers advertising too good to be true deals via trade channel. Many of those are scams.

A much safer route, especially if you've never done trades before, is to check with guildmates to see if someone wants to trade. You're far less likely to get screwed that way, and both parties end up happy.

I'm actually a tiny bit disappointed with this mount as a ground mount.

The art is beautiful, and the flying animation is striking, but because it uses the Windsteed skeleton it runs like a bucking goat. Don't get me wrong, I love the windsteed and use it on my hunter all the time. But on a horse it seems a little strange, like it was just stung on the arse by a bee.

You would of thought they could use the hearthsteed skele instead as that runs like a real horse - very fluid. But that said the bucking bronco run has grown on me and makes me giggle whenever I use it now :) Happiness is never a bad thing right?

I kind of think the run it has suits the look of it. It kind of suits the wild look of it.
