Re: MoP style track and tame for all of Azeroth!
Your mileage may vary-- to some who have unlimited time to play, or for whatever reason want getting a hunter pet to be a difficult thing for each and every pet they get for the challenge of it this might seem wonderful, but it would pretty much end my time as a hunter for a while into the expac, as well as leveling anyone new.
Re: MoP style track and tame for all of Azeroth!
I found, tracked and tamed the two MoP pets I wanted, on the same day when the content was still fresh, on a high pop PvP server. Good luck perhaps...
Not a single tame has surpassed GTSG on a PvP heavy server. I was the first Ally to get it and the 5th Hunter over all. This type of group tame will never come back...
A close second was trying to tame BT pre-normalization then Echi&ShyR and that Windserpent that poofed black smoke when summoned....for an Ally Hunter that had to wait for horde to get the quest that is... Looking for and killing over "better" pets will never come back.
Then came the timed taming for appearance buffs, GriffTaming macro make it easy. But it was not that hard before with proper use of addons. This will never be coming back.
Then came Cata taming, it was was difficult at level, fun and provided a sense of accomplishment, once done.
In my experience the MoP taming is not difficult or time consuming. I would like to see that mechanic and Cata taming mechanics at all play levels and in more zones. Combining the two would be even better. It is an amazing thing they did for our class I would hope that it is not going to be left to rot in a single expansions.
It would not be hard to place a few more pets all over Azeroth of multiple levels so that a sub level 80 hunter can experience the same type of challenge tame as higher level hunters. The looks can just be exclusive to level gaps, like Echi and Shy or Humar and Pitch. Your stable space management is safe.
FYI you don't HAVE to track down and tame ALL of these pets to a point were your stables are FULL and YOU feel like quitting. I have zero play time right now....soooo

Killing mobs around the area like say the elks, quest item drops "Tuff of brown hair" it sends you to your Stablemaster of the faction hub in the area. He goes "This is the first proof of the legend of Sambas, Hunter I have heard great rumors of a large lion roaming these woods but never seen it with my own eyes" He sends you back out where you do have to find tracks and clues to his location (think Rolo's riddles) that would lead you to an area where he would be and bam your phased only you or those you invite into the group so he can be tamed after maybe having to kite and dps him down.
Re: MoP style track and tame for all of Azeroth!
Back in vanilla I made my way over to the horde zones to tame Death Flayer. I saw a high level hunter with it and he told me were to go, no WoWhead just a you go here then here then there set of directions. I embarked on my mission at level 10 paid for a Lock summon to Gadget, made my way to his spawn point and waited. When I came back I was level 12 with a nice black scorpid. It was an accomplishment I will never forget. I got about 50 kills and was killed almost as many times. When I finally tamed Ban'thalos there was no one around because it was during MoP. There was no satisfaction, no sense of accomplishment. However over the whole Cata xpac while trying to tame I was killed and killed other hunters more times then I can recall. There could be some posts in the consolation thread caused by me, who knows. I know this is just my experiences and no one cares about them but isn't a hunter supposed to hunt??
Had I tamed Ban'thalos during Cata it would have been amazing... just like when I tamed GTSG.... then ran heroics until my eyes bled and he was level 70. I want the HUNT in Hunter pet collection...with normalization they have taken away all the reasons to camp exclusive pets. I agree with that. They removed appearance buff taming because of a few bad apples, I can agree with that too. They have even added same looking skins to others making rare pets not rare at xLevel. And I can agree with that to.
But Blizz has also added MoP style track and tame and Cata style "this beast hits harder if you have armor on so tame nekid" types of tames or "this beast is strong willed, must tame under 50% hp". Tracking is the essence of the hunter class and it should be experienced by hunters of all levels all over the game world. Not just on one small archipelago inhabited by pandas or in zones limited to players level 75+.
Quests, condition tames, track and tame, tames under hostile conditions those are the tames that are worth while. People who don't want to tame like that don't have to. Blizz has done the work the overall community likes it, why not expand it?

I think the tracking tames are OK but I DO NOT want all rares or even a 1/4 of them placed under that taming method. I simply don't have the time nor the patience to follow foot prints across a zone to find a hidden rare.
And more then once I've seen a tracked rare killed out from under the hunter.

All I am saying is that now that it is in the game, lets get it pushed out to all corners of the world.

Exactly. Push it out to all parts of them game. Give alternative methods to hunters of all levels.
I never said all rares. I would not want that either. Hostile camping would be far less if there were 30-100 or more unique tames spread out over all games zones and levels.
Again it does not have to be the only way to get the skin. That is in no way what I think.
Take the Black Lion Skin. You can camp and tame Humar or Dark Prowler at levels 18 and 21, both in Horde dominant zones BTW. Or you can wait until level 76 and tame Pitch. How about adding a Tracked Black Lion Skin at the 45-60 level range. Or make Humar or Dark Prowler a special condition or track tame? Either is far better than just sitting next to a spawn point in NPC scan on; or waiting to just click tame at level 76.
Again that is just my opinion.

I know that some people did not enjoy hunting these beasts down to tame, whether it was from time management, not being able to find the tracks, phasing or so on. With the petopia site, our own elite hunters who unraveled the secrets of the tracks, and the wonderful (an hilarious commentary) guides, knowing where to look for, where the tracks start/end and everything in between, these tracking tames were made even easier!
And just remember, if you love or hate these track taming Portent does not care!

He doesn't care that the vale blew up either!Makoes wrote:I love the track hunting very much and I'd love to see more of it added to the game. Of course I wouldn't want all rares to be "tracked" pets, because well rares are also there for exp for leveling players, better then average loot, and something fun to hunt for everyone. I am quite happy with how the tracked pets where done in MoP, there was no griefing, it was GREAT!!! The tracked pets were "unique" in appearance, which made them (for some) worth the hunt.

I like this idea alot! I love solo quest's and finding random things so this appeals alot!Tankperson wrote:I still say instead of tracking do a phased quest like thing. Going to use Sambas as an example

With my idea with rare tracking being bound to a drop only hunters get the drop of course it's a low drop rate like .05% or something. It sends you out to an area to find a clue. That sends you out to a totally different area where you have to pick up the tracks. You then have to follow those tracks to an area where it'll be there but there will be some key or trick to the tame like in the molten front. We get a little bit of everything this way. Tracking with luck of finding something then the phasing to keep griefers away, you also got the trick tame to add a little bit of fun and unknown to it.

Thank you Castile, I think this could even work out for other rares in the zone opening up new possiblities.Castile wrote:While I like some tracking and challenge tames I'm prob aren't a fan at lower lvls but thats just me. I wouldn't like to follow something at low lvl all over a zone fighting off hostiles while trying to find those tiny tracks rofl!!
