Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
Tortos isn't tameable. Not sure about Horridon yet (Jin Rokh was being a jerk), but I somehow doubt it. Also Cracklefang (lvl 91 mob in the vale) loses his special effects and sword when you tame him (big surprise there

Thanks for checking! We were aware of Cracklefang losing his sword. The only ones that I'm aware of that WERE flagged as tameable, but were too high and haven't yet been confirmed are the three quilen bosses at the start of MV.Bendak wrote:Tortos isn't tameable. But perhaps we should start a list of things to keep an eye on. Things that haven't been flagged during MoP but could possibly be before the beta is done. Like Tortos and Horridon, and a bunch of Thunder Isle mobs, etc.

Yeah, I'd like to see the armored dinos over near the palace become tamable, myself. Even if Horridon/Oondasta aren't.

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
I'm kinda wondering if the "If you can solo it, we'll let you tame it" was JUST for Chimaeron or if perhaps if someone manages to solo Oondasta, that they will THEN flag him as tameable, same with Horridon and Tortos.
... I may have been trying to solo Oondasta for exactly this reason on a lvl 100 premade. >.> 85% on my best attempt, he hurts.

He'll probably be undead but, I found this guy in the screenshots MMOC put up tonight.
There's also a basilisk I saw go by but it's an old-world model and probably a placeholder.

Depends on a few things I guess.Melissa wrote:I'm kinda wondering if the "If you can solo it, we'll let you tame it" was JUST for Chimaeron or if perhaps if someone manages to solo Oondasta, that they will THEN flag him as tameable, same with Horridon and Tortos.
1st they would have to flag thse as tamable (Oh for the love of Ellune I hope they do!

and then it depends if they wan to add any "Tricks" to them as well as they have with Chimaeron
I could end up being something like...[Tortos is too stubborn to tame right now]....and you might have to give it a [Shell Concussion] to be able to tame?
or even not dissimilar to Chimaeron...[Oondasta is too calm to tame right now].... and it might need 6 stacks of [Growing Fury] to be able to tame or something?
...Thokk ~ Certain Stacks of Blood Frenzy, Horridon ~ Cracked shell or even Rampage, etc. Most bosses have some kind of buff/debuff through out the course of their fights that could be flagged as the trigger for their taming.
Also these could be quite possible to solo at higher levels and gear later on, but then might need some help earlier in WoD.

Has anyone checked the thunder isle armoured dinosaurs? Maybe we can tame those? I might have a look tonight if it hasn't already been flagged

Not last time I checked, anyway! But it's been a couple of patches. Last time I tried to go there it gave me the "instance not found" error.

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
I sent Muffinus a bunch of tweets, making suggestions of possible extensions of Chimaeron's tameable status, and the challenge tame idea. If the idea grows, it could really breathe life into pet collecting beyond just taming. As the system grows more and more sophisticated, the challenges could get more and more elaborate. (not necessarily nearly impossible in terms of difficulty, just elaborate)
This would mean that what they tried with rare pets could actually work out here. These boss pets could become trophies, unique pets as rewards for challenges. The idea honestly excites me.
Just off the top of my head, bosses that could become challenge tames: Tortos(Turtle), Ji-kun(Bird of Prey), Beth'tilac(Spider), Oondasta(Devilsaur), Horridon(Direhorn), Thok the Bloodthirsty(Devilsaur), Fankriss the Unyielding(Worm), Kurrinaxx(Worm), Gluth(Dog).
If Silithid Sandreavers become tameable, the loss of uniqueness for Fankriss and Kurrinaxx (not necessarily, but possibly) wouldn't matter as much, as they're still low level pets, and would more so be challenges for.. say, level 70/80 hunters. However, Tortos, Ji-kun, Oondasta, Horridon, Thok, Gluth and Beth'tilac would be unique models.
So when you see a hunter with Beth'tilac as a pet (Beth'tilac is a beast), you can see "Hey, he did that medium-hard challenge tame! Cool!" as opposed to what they tried with rares, which turned out more like "Hey, he camped for a while. Cool.. I suppose?". (averted, somewhat, in MoP. The track tames were pretty cool, but don't offer a lot of special stuff in terms of models. If they had gone with unique models, and track tames, that would've made it even better)

If they make Ji-kun tamable before they make his raptor fledgelings tamable, I'm going to cry. xD
Poked Muffinus on twitter about the raptor fledgelings, but I don't think he ever responded! A shame, they're such a lovely model and it's really painful to watch them sit there untameable.

You could reply to your own tweet from then, effectively bringing it back up again. Maybe he missed it.LupisDarkmoon wrote:If they make Ji-kun tamable before they make his raptor fledgelings tamable, I'm going to cry. xD

And I think it is handy to point out what models remain that are untameable and would pretty much fit into existing families. There is the chance that there are cases in which they go "Oh yeah. Sure! Sounds fair.". And if you hadn't tried at all, that may not have happened.

One thing I noticed regarding those Thunder Isle birds, or at least their skins.
One of the spreadsheets in the latest copy of the database reveals that someone has assigned those skins (all of them!) to be used fairly recently. My assumption (and I could be wrong) is that they will appear in Draenor. This would be fitting as they are VERY much Draenor-style creatures, far more so than the Thunder Isle I think. They'd fit perfectly with the Arakkoa.
Don't get your hopes up, it's only a few lines in a spreadsheet, but I hope it means what I think it does!

Sorry for digressing the topic, what is the possibility if Gyreworms are tamable it is grouped with Shale Spider into a renamed family; Shale Beast. I know Gyreworm looks like a worm and even has the word worm in it, but biologically, it looks like it is made of mineral just like Shale Spiders. Besides, this would expand the tamable model of the family; any beast resembling shale, crystal or mineral.

Even though the model isn't in the game (yet!), that freaky reptilian chimaera/rylak has some bones lying around! Hope for the future?

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
Since I had an idea about a full-bodied Megaera, and so did others, as a possible future challenge tame, I tried to edit my way into some kind of version of it. Of course, Megaera has more heads, but they could always add that into the model.
My idea was that you initially face Megaera, do something special, and then the instance registers you trying to tame it. After which all the heads submerge back into the pit. And then, after a few seconds, a full-bodied, huge Megaera climbs out, and then the real challenge tame starts.

The test server is going down and there were some mumblings about a new build being out as well (maybe)! Eight hour maintenance, maybe we'll get the chance to play with some new beasties? And that Megaera... it makes me want cereal.
