It automatically goes to the first person to trade. So, for the love of god, do not ask for a Vulpix because someone will snap that shiny Mewtwo up in a second and you'll be left with a regular Vulpix.

So looking at the pikachu cosplays again...its even more obvious they are contest related...each one features a color on their clothes corresponding to the colors denoting a related Contest stat.

Pikachu PH. D.: Green Shirt: Smart

Pikachu Rock Star: Red Jacket: Cool

Pikachu Belle: Blue Dress: Beauty

Pikachu Pop Star: Pink Everything: Cute

Pikachu Libre: Yellow Luchadore Outfit: Tough

So if ya liked contests...there's more sign of them coming back!

Also, how does chaining for shinies work? Sweet Scent lures groups and I heard it is a good way to shiny farm... but what if the poke you want doesn't come in groups? Does it still attract more pokemon to the area?

Editç
Oh yeah' bought Black v2 today.
You might not even be able to post a Mewtwo. For some reason they blocked a lot of legendaries from the GTS. You can still ask for them though, so they did nothing to clear up the "lollookatmyshiny" and "wantlevel1Resharam!" spam.
It's been a while since I checked so they may have removed that.

While hatching skrelp, my mind has taken to wondering off, sometimes it gets lost. Anyhow, while it was off someplace else, I was watching the indigo plateau, and I though hmmm wouldn't it be fun to do a battle with people using the same types of pokemon.
Fire vs Fire, water vs water, etc.
and then I thought what would make it even more fun would be if someone else made the teams up, and sent the battlers the pokemon.
Person 1 and person 2 each pick 6 pokemon (ex: 6 water pokemon), and level them up to say lv 50, teaching them whatever moves they feel would be helpful.
then person 1 gives battler 1 their team, and person 2 gives battler 2 their team.
After the battle, the roles switch.

Kinda like a blind date battle, you don't know your team until someone gives it to you.

Anyone interested?

I kind of like the idea of mono-type blind dates.

I think we could also do regular mono-type tournaments as well as do the whole blind-trade thing except with all types. You can really do all sorts of things with it, but I do think it'd be loads of fun.

Jesus I forgot just how damned hard it is to train Pokemon in FireRed if you, for one reason or another, let one Pokemon get left behind in experience.

I caught a Growlithe a tad bit late apparently because by the time I found her at level 15, all my other team members were in their 30s. Plus it took me ages to figure out what I wanted my last Pokemon in my team to be and I ended up picking Nidoqueen, so at the moment I'm running around on Route 3 looking for a 1% chance female Nidoran which'll be level 5 or so. So training up these two is gunna be such a pain. I have no idea why it is in this game but... it is.

Oh and in case anyone's interested in what I picked and nicknamed, I went for Charizard (Atramedes), Raichu (Zephyr), Persian (Quince), Vaporeon (Kai), Arcanine (Shiranui) and a so far unnamed Nidoqueen. My aim for this runthrough is to design a team for each gen, so after FireRed I'll move on to SoulSilver and make a team consisting of only gen 2 Pokemon, and so on. I'm a bit torn about gen 6 right now though. There's no way in heck I'm deleting my X file to start again, I've spent more hours on that than any other Pokemon game. I may just create the team without running through the story again (I wasn't overly satisfied with the Pokemon I picked the first time around anyway) or I may eventually grab a copy of Y so I can complete the story alongside my new team. I dunno if I wanna splurge £30 on a game I've essentially already got though... x___x

Oh and another (minor) rule I have in place for myself is I must always keep the starter Pokemon as part of my team. Weird rule I know, but ever since I was a kid I always saw it as kind of a 'fact' that you had to have your starter Pokemon alongside you at all times. For me, seeing an in-game team without the starter Pokemon is bizarre. I think for gen 2 I'll pick Chikorita, gen 3 is definitely gunna be Treecko, gen 4 will probably be Turtwig, gen 5 will be Oshawott and gen 6 will be Fennekin. I'm not 100% about gen 2 though... I like the starters for that one pretty much equally. :/

Kinda got spoiled with the exp.share in X/Y eh?
Sounds like a fun project though Snowy :D
I am the same way with my starter...must use it till the end of the story mode. Though, I think there was one game where I broke that tradition...I think it was in a 3rd gen game...I really wasn't a fan of those starters. Swampert finally grew on me, but I found them all lack-lustered...

Oh god X and Y has made me expect everything to be so easy. Playing FireRed for the first time since I was about 13 was like throwing me in the deep end after I've forgotten how to swim. It's not *hard* but it might as well be compared to X and Y! I feel you on the starters though, 4th gen I'm picky with because I never liked any of them that much but Turtwig somehow grew on me.

Turtwig was the first time a grass pokemon took a huge lead on my starter list preference. Torterra's mix of grass/ground as well as it's awesome design made the starter selection for that gen unique to me. Torterra even muscled it's way into my hardcore battle Revolution team paired with Flygon. Although the two shared a HUGE weakness to ice, their abilities together wiped out everything else.

Charizard ruled the starters for gen one picks, and still does for me to this day.
2nd gen I struggled with between Typhlosion and Feraligatr, Typhlosion managed to pull ahead a bit, but the two have an eternal power struggle for me.
3rd gen...Swampert was the least hated of that generation, followed by Sceptile...Blazekin though tough, I really disliked the design.
4th gen Torterra followed by Empoleon and lagging far behind was Infernape...I don't like monkeys.
5th gen had so much potential, but Samurott pulled ahead by a LONG shot. Tepig was my fav until his final was revealed...I'd hoped more for a quadruped boar...
6th gen was hands down Fennekin, I LOVE foxes, soooooooo much!!!!! this gen only had the one starter right? because all I could see was this awesome fire fox XD and it's evolution to fire/psychic O.o)) pure awesome XD

Wait, what was the previous post about now...??

Ahhhh, I want this skrelp to hatch so I can get one with my other games!!!!

I also love to keep my starters on my team :) Always have, always will. Am I the only who likes to keep a small team though? In FireRed I had a Blastoise, Scyther, and Jolteon. I'm currently playing SoulSilver and I only have a Feraligatr, Scyther, and Eevee (soon to be Espeon)

and since we're talking about starter preferences!

Gen 1: I love all three! Charizard has always been my favorite, of course, but I find it easier to work Blastoise into my teams for some odd reason. I also like Venisaur but not nearly as much

Gen 2: I like all three of these too, and I still don't have a favorite to this day! I LOVE both Totodile and Typhlosion (Totodile specifically  Feraligatr is cool too, but I prefer Typhlosion over him)! I have to plan my Gen 2 team and then pick the starter that best fits it. Meganium is cool too, but, like Venisaur, not nearly as cool as the other two.

Gen 3: TREECKO ALL THE WAY! Swampert is cool too, and I've never really cared for Blaziken, but I always pick Treecko unless I'm trying something new!

Gen 4: Ugh. I don't care for Empoleon or Infernape. I love Torterra's design so I usually end up picking Turtwig but it's always so hard for me to work a team around him for some odd reason, so sometimes I pick Chimchar just cuz I hate Piplup even more so.

Gen 5: I usually go for the Reptilian starters, so you'd figure Snivy, right? WRONG! All my friends picked Snivy so I decided to pick Oshawott just to be different, and I don't care too much for Tepig's evolutions (Tepig itself is absolutely adorable though). BEST DECISION EVER! I absolutely ADORE Oshawott and his line now! I still think Snivy's cool, but Samurott ALL THE WAY! no matter what

Gen 6: There's no contest for me here either. Like Oshawott for gen 5, I will never choose another starter in gen 6. It will always and forever be Froakie. I love Fenekin, but I'm not too fond of her evolution line and I don't care for Chespin at all.

Looks like I started a thing. xD

Charizard for me is a no brainer. He'a a freaking dragon and always been a personal favourite of mine. I tell you what was weird for me though, when I was a kid and lived in Belgium, Blastoise was the popular one, Squirtle was eeeeeveryone's starter Pokemon and I remember this well because pretty much everyone I knew all started playing Pokemon at the same time. When I pulled a holo Charizard out of a base set pack, no one cared because it wasn't a Blastoise! And when I moved back to the UK... Charizard was the way to go! And he's apparently really popular outside of Belgium. xD

The Generation 2 starters I liked equally, though I found Typhlosion to look a bit odd as a sprite from behind in the older games, so that put me off. I also thought he looked a bit plain. Feraligatr was cool but so was Meganium and something ended up compelling me to pick Chikorita originally. I don't know for sure what I'll pick when I play SoulSilver again!

Generation 3 I didn't find hard. Blaziken never appealed to me, neither did Swampert and I thought Sceptile was AWESOME. I bet you can guess what my Omega Ruby starter is going to be. ;D

Generation 4 was where I struggled. As I mentioned before, none of them originally appealed to me. I do like penguins so I really thought I'd pick Piplup but I thought Empoleon looked a bit... eh. Infernape was never up my alley either but then again none of the monkey Pokemon are, I find them silly looking. Turtwig was pretty cute so I went for him and from there ended up quite liking Torterra.

Generation 5 was a weird one for me. When I first grabbed my copy of White, I'd fallen out of the Pokemon scene for a while (totally missed out on Generation 4 when it first happened and I'm still struggling to make my way through Diamond's story, it just never appealed to me) so I knew NOTHING about the new Pokemon. So I went in completely clueless as to what the evolutions of the starters would look like and it was pretty exciting to not know. I picked Snivy originally and I thought it looked pretty cool as Serperior. But when Bianca's Oshawott eventually became a Samurott, I had to look up what Pokemon it was because it looked so dramatically different from Oshawott and Dewott. And I LOVED it. I regretted not picking Oshawott, despite not being a fan of what Oshawott looks like.

Aaaand Generation 6 is, again, another no brainer for me. Vulpix was one of my original favourites so when yet another fire fox appeared I had no choice. xD I'm not the biggest fan of Delphox though sadly, it's robe to me looks so odd in-game. I loveloveloved Braixen though so I never ended up evolving mine. Chesnaught to me is meh and I never understood Greninja's popularity, it's tongue scarf is 100x creepier than Sylveon's 'flesh ribbons'.

Despite being a fire-type fan generally, I notice a lot of my favourite starter Pokemon are grass, which is usually a forgotten type to me. So weird. o.O

Haa, I guess starter shenanigans are a thing now!

Gen 1: Meehhhh.. Charizard. All three starter lines are cool, but I'm not a REALLY huge fan of any of them. But I do have a soft spot for Charmander and its line due to FireRed being one of my first games. (That and playing as a Charmander in PMD, which WAS my first Pokemon game.)

Gen 2: I actually really like all three of the Johto starters! I ran with Cyndaquil in SoulSilver, though, since it's always kind of been my favourite? But I've always liked Chikorita as well, and after a certain RP, I got really attached to the Totodile line too. (Those RPs made me REALLY start to like a lot of different Pokemon, actually. XD)

Gen 3: I HAVE SUCH A HARD TIME DECIDING BETWEEN MUDKIP AND TREECKO UGH. Mudkip was my starter waaayy back when I first played Emerald, and I freaking adore it and Swampert. But I love Treecko's line too, especially Grovyle! I'm actually having a hard time deciding which starter I want in Omega Ruby...

Gen 4: Ya know, I'm not a huge fan of any of these starters. I dunno why. They're all cool, I'll admit. It's not like I hate them. But I'm just not a big fan of them. (And it's debatable which one of them I usually start with. XD I usually just go with whichever one I feel like using at the time.)

Gen 5: OSHAWOTT IS MY BABY. I love that little thing, and I love its entire evolution line. Oshawott is the perfect little starter. I love my Samurott from Black. <3 (But I really like Snivy's line too? Snivy is so cute, and Serperior is awesome! I really loved using one in Black 2.)

Gen 6: FENNEKIIIIIN. There was really no competition when it came to starters in XY for me. XD Chespin and Froakie are super cute as well, but ughhhh mage fox? All of my yes. <3

Pffft even if we have can't hurt to do it again!

I actually have occasionally not used my starter throughout the end. It just depends on what I'm planning. In my Y copy for example I got froakie cause I could and boxed it when I got my charizard. (To be fair it's a run based on RP chars but still.)

fave starters mmmm

Gen 1: HANDS DOWN CHARIZARD. Never cared about blastoise much, and bulbasaur is alright. But come on. DRAGON. THAT SCREAMS AZU.

Gen 2: I've always gone Typhlosion. Big badass fire badger is totally alright by me. I've done a few runs with Meganium and Ferilgatr before, but end of the day I still love Typhlosion best. /shrug

Gen 3: Apparently, Sapphire/Ruby is my impossible goal. I have yet to this day beat Gen 3. EVERY other game I've beaten, but not Gen 3. Anyways, I used to always do Sceptile, but I did a run that I almost finished with Blaziken and that was definitely fun.

Gen 4: I've been meh about the gen 4 starters forever (and Sinnoh was eh over all. But it gave me Dialga, so.) but of the three I prefer Empoleon. Steel/Water's a pretty cool combo, and besides, big death-claw penguins.

Gen 5: SERPERIOR. My first play through I did samurott. Second time, serperior and I have never looked back. Basil is the greatest. When I used to battle with friends, he's managed to get my through plenty of rough situations. His higher speed made him a serious threat too, and with choice whatever leaf blade? aaaaaw yeaaaah

Gen 6: Jumping on the bandwagon--Fennekin! That said, I really dig the whole mage/knight/thief archetypes they went for the starters. I'm not a fan of froakie/chespin's designs, but I mean, I've seen some cool concepts of them.

And yeah what Azu said, who cares? Gets people talking on this thread again. c:
