Re: Felfire Hawk
Well I guess that's part of the reward system, if your aiming to obtain the 250 mount achieve, you may have to do some tedious grinding that may or may not be appealing.LupisDarkmoon wrote:Oh, I know they're easy, they're just tedious! Sure, you can solo them, but doing them for three+ months still isn't very appealing, heh.
Wow is centered around repetitive tedious tasks of all kinds, and then some appeal to some people more than others.
If your into collecting mounts (Which this reward is centered around) you would most likely have all the AT mounts, and very excited to get a new one each time. Over the "three+ months" it's not like you have to wait and get them all of the mounts at the end, it's more like 1 or maybe 2 mounts a week, which is pretty good if you into collecting mounts tbh. Also there some other reps/mounts that took 3+ months just to get the one darn mount, but still, if you want it, just gotta bite the bullet I guess.
Then there is people in the opposite boat, whom think all the years of tedious work collecting mounts, only to get a Green firehawk which is a recycled mount and that they don't like?

Re: Felfire Hawk
That is true, Spirit. While I do enjoy farming mounts, the AT dailies are a little too far for me. But there are certainly people out there who think otherwise. My point was more that it'll likely be easier to get the Emerald Drake now, rather than harder. I don't really like either mount!

Re: Felfire Hawk
i dunno this drake has been a long time coming and one alot of ppl have wanted - i thought some sort of milestone achievement would be fitting. But I guess a legacy raid everyone can do is ok too (as long as its something like Mt Hyjal that you can grab a buddy or solo). The drop rate will need to be in the double digits however

Time to start doing world boss tours again.
Yes, doing the AT is really grindy, but at least the mounts are guaranteed. You could spend the same amount of time camping a rare or farming dungeons and get nothing. If you have multiple characters, you could farm the different factions at the same time. You'd spend the same amount of time at the tournament, but it wouldn't be stretched over as many weeks. If you are just doing one character, either park them up there, or be an engineer. The Icecrown teleport is fairly close to the tournament grounds. A paladin would be ideal, because they have three class specific mounts (which count for your total, I hit 200 on my warlock while my other characters would have only had 198), and one of those mounts is from the tournament.

Most of the discussion from this point on was about the source of the Emerald Drake mount. I've split this off to here:

Re: Felfire Hawk
Just saw a thread on MMO where someone pointed out that in beta, they're counting mounts from both factions in for this achieve (and other similar mount achieves I assume). I checked my toon on beta and it seems to be the case, since I somehow magically gained around 20 mounts over there.
Has anyone heard if this is a bug or intentional? If anyone has a twitter acct and doesn't mind asking a developer, I'd love to know!

I hope it's intended. I mean, they should make it so there's 3 tabs in your mount journal. One for alliance, showing all the mounts you've got that you can ride as an ally. Then, a horde tab. Same as the ally one. Then a neutral one, showing all mounts you've got. This should be where the mount count is. Counting how many mounts you've got altogether.

Re: Felfire Hawk
I did mention this before, that all mounts are showing up. That screenshot is also pretty old, I took it during the time a lot of people where getting in the beta. Also this is directly from the official site:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/156825 ... untjournalMount Journal
-Entries in the Mount Journal now have a description and information on where or how the mount can be obtained.
-Mount Journal now lists all mounts that have been collected on the account. Ones that the character is unable to use will be displayed in red.
-Players can now designate a mount as favorite, placing it at the top of the collected mounts list.
-Summon Random Favorite Mount has been added, randomly summoning a mount that’s usable for the area from the favorites list.
-All flying mounts are now able to be used as a ground mount in areas that do not allow flying.

So does this mean mount achievements will count for those?

Re: Felfire Hawk
Yeah I'd noticed on beta that opposite faction mounts were showing up, but I guess it didn't really click for me until others pointed it out, that my mount total was including mounts from both sides.
I wish a developer would come out and say "Yes this is intended." And if it is, then I question why they'd stop at 250. There's going to be well over 400 mounts in WoD. Shouldn't there be achievement rewards to cover 300, 350, 400, etc? I feel that achievements should be something players should want to reach for, even if they aren't obtainable right off the bat.

Re: Felfire Hawk
From someone who is a mount collector and takes pride in all the hard work ive done on both sides this kinda seems like a slap in the face. I mean I have something stupid like 440 combined - kinda trivalises the 250 acheive i've been working towards...sorry to those that are a fair way off 200 but I really hope this is a bug, else the other collecting acheivements don't have much value anymore.peanutbuttercup wrote:Just saw a thread on MMO where someone pointed out that in beta, they're counting mounts from both factions in for this achieve (and other similar mount achieves I assume). It IS intentional.-Mount Journal now lists all mounts that have been collected on the account.
Re: Felfire Hawk
I think the question has become a bit muddled but is not about what the journal displays but which the achievements will count.
Moving forward it would make sense to count all of your mounts, account-wide. I think they've avoided it up until now because the Armory simply hasn't supported it.
If so, maybe they will jump forward and place the next mount achievement at a much higher number. The downside to that would be that any collectors who like to play just one faction would suddenly feel a lot of pressure to play the other as well as there is a HUGE gain in mounts by doing that. In fact, if they adjust the goals based on the assumption you'll have mounts from both factions then it would become impossible to reach the higher goals without playing both. And with each new faction mount added that gap will become wider. It'll be interested to see how they handle it, anyway.
(I'm also hoping it means that Warcraft Mounts will only need the name of one character in order to get a player's entire collection and we can stop having to query a bunch of them and verify they all belong to the same account, etc. Cross fingers.)

Re: Felfire Hawk
That doesn't mean nor say they all count towards an achievement just that they are all displayed there - just like in armoury. Armoury has shown this for yonks but didn't mean it counted them all towards an acheivement. Again the fact that they are counted towards something in beta doesn't mean its set in stone as we have seen with the emerald drake achievement. They would need to quickly implement a 300, 350 and 400 achievements else people will have very little to work towards collection wise in WoD.

Re: Felfire Hawk
If they do jump way forward for the next major goal, it would be cool if they fill in the intermediate "100s" with a few unused mount looks that are a little older but still desired. That way they could ensure there's no weird gap in the achievement ladder, but without having to add a whole lot of new fancy mounts, and we'd also get some older unused looks that we might want

Re: Felfire Hawk
I have no issue with this concept but I'm abit miffed that something as nice as the new hawk isn't going to have much "value" for want of a better word since it will be fairly easy for anyone to get. 125 mounts (assuming you played both factions) wouldn't take much effort at all and your point about people who collect on one faction is also valid. I think If i was a faction "purerist" i'd be fairly put out if i felt the need to roll another toon for the sake of my mount collection.Wain wrote:If they do jump way forward for the next major goal, it would be cool if they fill in the intermediate "100s" with a few unused mount looks that are a little older but still desired. But then you could make the point if you loved mounts as much as we do you'd do it anyway? I dunno. I'm just not totally happy if this is the way it's going to go. 250 seemed like a big acheivement for me to work towards and now its just feels like people who haven't put in the same effort will get the reward without even blinking. Not that i want to be a special snowflake but genuine effort should be rewarded imo.

Re: Felfire Hawk
Every mount has value to me. *shrug* I don't devalue them based on when I get them. I earned em, therefore they are all special. Grinding all those alts to get all those mounts is working for them. Best not to dismiss that.
