The windsteed should really be a rare stag pet. Perhaps one like Portent?

They will stand their rear legs and kick to maim with the front. Which are sharp. They also bite. A doe can be just as vicious as a buck. Some wolves have learned this the hard way.
I mean, to be fair, it's different to have a cornered doe kick a lunging wolf in self-defense, vs. being the constant battle companion of a hunter.

The only other real family I can see people being confused about is Moths, and this is sort of justified by their "blinding/pacifying" dust abilities and sharp horns.
Yes, they are frail, but what good is that if they can't hit them? Does don't really have anything going for them besides those hooves.

That's my own justification for why we can tame Moths and not does/cows/"less formidable" critters.
Well. It wasn't a "cornered" doe I saw kick someone. I guess she just thought he was to close for comfort. I've also seen does fight. Kicking and biting is their only weapons. But I understand where you're coming from. :D

I love the moths but also never really understood why they were considered a fighter either. Do they actually use that horn in game????? :? I've never looked.

Actually. After looking at their animations on WoWhead. They do not use the horns. Just their little mandibles.

I have no problems with does being tamable. I am a firm advocate for every beast that could possibly be tamable, being tamable. I was just coming up with some reasons why they might not be added to the Stag family. :(

I say Rhino /clefthoof family for shoveltusks. They aren't exactly screaming of sleek and glorious stag.

I feel like just making a 'shoveltusk' family would make it too narrow. With only four shoveltusk colors, having their own family wouldn't be worth it. I would second an 'oxen' suggestion, which would allow for yaks and shoveltusks. And maybe bulls if they decide to make those later. I'd love to have a bull for a pet. But I never claimed to be normal. ;)

If they were going to be placed in existing families, I'd put them in 'stag' before I'd put them anywhere else. *Maybe* clefthoof. I know Muffinus (or was it Crafticus? One of those 'uses') was thinking they were more boar-like, but I personally don't see them as much like a boar.

If it had to be an existing family I'd go with stags.

Limited color options isn't really a problem IMO. Just look at Sporebats, they only have three (until WoD comes out anyway) not to mention there's a few others with only a couple of colors

Yes, and to *me*, that's a problem. ;) I prefer flexibility in families. It annoys me when families only have four or five options; I'd rather ten or more (although some are *too* inflated. Like cats.)

And a female rabbit is called a 'doe' while a male is called a 'buck'. Not an automatic checkmark for me!

It's cool that we can tame these, but their mouth looks a little strange during their idle animations. :D

I'll be waiting on the highland, with its wonderful serenity.
Where the stars glow and the brooks flow, that's my way of life.
When the mountains on the highland, and the nature is surrounding me, when the wind blows, that's all I need.
