Way To Become Hostile?

So the Dire Wolves in MH are Tameable, but Friendly--like quite a few beasts out there. Is there no way to make them unfriendly, or make yourself unfriendly?

My first thought was that debuff at Mutanus in WC. How long does this last and exactly what does it do? I remember it making my guildmate red-named during a boost, and I killed him. Could that mean mobs are red to you too? If you got a summon to an in-progress MH where the wolves had JUST spawned (I'm fairly certain they have a living-timer), could you manage to tame one?

Any other way to become hostile? Diguises, quests, any random & obscure scripts like that?

Hmm, I have the empty stable slot, but not a lot of people there to help me with my experiments. :(

But damn, if it's possible to tame these things. :D That's an awesome find, let's hope that there's a way to become hostile with them.

My thoughts exactly!!

To note, I'm fairly certain these wolves are...

* Spawned by the Horde Shamans at the Base Camp.
* Have a Living Time (undetermined length but -should- be enough for a fast tame).
* Require hostile action to prompt spawn.

During the entire event (several waves at the Horde camp) I only saw these spawned once. This means they may only spawn once as an event, or they may require prompting via their Shaman summoners being beat upon. Not sure which.

To start with, quick, someone go run WC with a friend or two and let Mutanus go wild. It'd probably take hours to actually get the debuff to hit a level 73+, but at least then we could have an idea of whether you keep control of your actions & how long it lasts. May be best bringing a helpful lowbie who knows what's going on.

Edit: even if this DID work, getting the debuff at the same time your raid (which should have a summon ready for your feign & accept) having the wolves spawn is extremely unlikely. Still worth a shot IMO, for the truly dedicated

The charm from Mutanus lasts around 15 seconds atleast what I can say.
I don't know if the effect gets longer with more party members.

Went with Saf and we gave it a try. I could move but I was having a shiny moment and forgot to try CAN I do anything besides move.

EDIT: So any ideas for a longer debuff?

I don't know. Everything I can think of is an actual MC effect; that's why I was hoping people could brainstorm and think of something that's slipping my mind.

As it stands, even if you timed it right with full haste gear & BL...

a. the load time for MH would probably be prohibitive and
b. I'm not sure it allows YOU to take action against OTHERS. Can anyone test this? Once I get done in ICC today I'll try and have a look but if anyone is already messing about in WC for science

I can't really think of any spells that would MC you but still allow you to use your skills.. Is there a way to transform into a hostile race (something like the TCG Ogre statue or furbolg staff) and keep that form even while casting? Maybe one of the forms happens to be hostile with the wolves. <.<

Or maybe the item (I guess it drops off Kael'thas..) that transforms the user into a Blood Elf?

Hm, more transformation items than I expected. XD Not all of those turn you into a humanoid, but worth a shot I suppose.

Neither of those alter your standing with anything. They are strictly cosmetic.

There MIGHT (big might :P) be a fluke that the wolves are hostile against something like that, even without a reason. The devs may not have thought that it would be such a big deal and left the wolves hostile to something completely random. Same thing with the original Ghost Wolves, they probably didn't expect hunters to be able to stack enough haste to finish the tame before the thing died, but alas, it was possible.

That's not how those buffs work, but by all means, check it out.

One thing to keep in mind if you're going to try this is that the summoning message is open for 2 minutes. If you get the summon and then engage to get the debuff, you could click the accept the moment it hits you - but as you said, it might not be timed with the spawn.

Have you tried clicking yourself as hostile with the faction for Mount Hyjal? (I didn't really raid much in TBC so I don't know which one that would be...)

Yeah, unless you can change your standing with the faction, likely not going to work. Too bad.

Most likely, those wolves aren't even in a faction. They might just be tagged as Friendly to all.

Which would be a pretty horrible joke, seeing as they're the only ghostly wolves tagged as tameable at the moment. :( Everyone wants one, so no need to rub it in! ;__;
