How to see original NPC-ID of pets I own?

Unread post by Nobody_Anybody »

Is there any way to see the original name and / or id of pets I tamed in the past?

I have a few pets I tamed in the past but can’t remember what npc it was (because there are multiple pets with the same or similar models and or skins.
Is there any way (a addon maybe) to show me the original name or / and NPC-Id so I know what beast is really was?

If you're not some troll wanting to be fed (given your username) ............... you used to be able to see that information on the armory under hunter pets. But since the WoD launch either they've changed the NPC ID's or the armory isn't working right as they no longer match. Otherwise you just need to research on WoWhead if you want to know.

No troll,

I have been gone from WoW for a long time and recently came back so did not know that just changed (In fact I did never noticed the ID is visible somewhere). Me coming back now is also the main reason why I would like this information (at this moment). I have a few pets that I think I know where I tamed them but am not 100% sure so would like to know for sure what one it is.

For example I have a brow wolf and think it's Ripp but am not 100% sure, it might also be one of the 'red' ones. I have a black tiger but there are two with the same model so I don't know what one it is and my friend has the white tiger and there are also two of them so I would like to know what one.

It's also just fun to see and useful to know before I would abandon one of them to make room.

Anyway, thanks for the information, I will check it out this evening and I hope it will then soon be fixed. I am pretty sure the NPC-ID’s have not been changed because NPC-scan is working fine (when hovering over the mob). If the codes would be wrong you would except that not to be working properly unless they fixed that already.

I think the OP's question was fairly benign and didn't need to be treated with hostility. :/

There's a macro to show you the NPC id of your target. It changed in WoD so older macros won't work. Unfortunately I'm away right now and can't confirm this still works but please try:

/run print("Target NPC ID:", strmatch(UnitGUID("target"),"-(%d*)-%x*$"))

Thnx this is what I needed!

The armory pet section is indeed bugged but this is what I was looking for.

Yeah I found out that the armory no longer matched the NPC ID when I was submitting tickets for the pets that no longer color change. Took me a while to get the ID's figured out from the like models that didn't change. Awesome that wain had a macro. Hope it works for you.

Regarding the wolf. Ripp is it's own skin. There are no matching colors. If you place your tamed pup next to the red worgs or the dark brown that may help to let you know if it's Ripp or not. This yes, is little bit more of a hassle but worth a shot if the macro doesn't work. The tigers is a little bit tougher depending on what model of white tiger you have. Savage (MoP white tiger) is his own skin and has no common match. King Bangalash and Hawkbane share a skin but it's just those two. Frostsabers in Winterspring are common skins with no rare. The only other white tiger skin is the Time-Twisted Nightsaber in End Time raid which is a hunched cat with glowing red eyes.

So that may help (a little) if the macro Wain suggested doesn't work.

The marco worked perfectly but I have not yet been able you check if I indeed have Rip or not.

I was stuck in one place camping for Ban'thalos and then when it finally spawned a now-lifer who happen to just past by though it was funny to kill it (or had to do it to feel better about his life?). Oow well, will get it next time.

Anyway, the marcro works perfect, tested it on the pets I had with me, so I will be able to find it out when I get to the stable.

And yeah I do also hope the color-changing get's put back in. When I leveled my hunter I spend a lot of work getting to the appropriate level in the starting area to tame the ape with the banana (was already patched out back then) and the color changing raptor. Now both those are just regular beast and I don't even like the color the raptor has now.
