First (Serious) Horde Experience

Unread post by Rikaku »

So for the first time in many years (at least since the launch of TBC) I have made a Horde alt. I've always wanted to check out the Horde side to get an experience of WoW from the side I've never really given a real 'shot'. I've leveled a few alts here and there, but none ever got past level 40 back in TBC days and thanks to Cataclysm, that's all pretty much changed. So as someone who loves Hunters, of course I had to roll a Hunter on the Horde-side too. I also love questing, which brings me to the point of this topic.

Thanks to heirlooms and exp in general, leveling is pretty fast now, especially in the classic zones. So I wanted to ask the Petopia Hordies:

What are your recommendations for "must see" questing areas in the classic worlds?

I aim to try and experience it all at some point, but I wanted to know if there are any 'MUST GO BACK AND SEE' quest chains in any zones? :D

"What's that smell? Bad dog!"

infantile, I know.. but I giggle like an idiot every time.

I've played through all starter zones of Horde races, but have a real weak spot for the Blood Elf area. The one I like least is Orc/Troll because it feels a bit generic to me. Just my impression. And I dislike playing Undead characters, but their starter zones are rally good, very dramatic.

The one area that affects me most is when we get to Southern Barrens and the now-destroyed Camp Taurajo. I started playing WoW a month or so before the first expansion came out, and back then, Camp Taurajo was an important waypoint as you leveled. You were nearing level 20, the monsters were suddenly bigger, and here was this quiet, peaceful little Tauren outpost in the middle of nowhere. The cataclysm changes were traumatic for me with regard to this area. And replaying that part, and the quests that now have us avenge the slaughter of Camp Taurajo have me both enraged and in tears, and even the vengeance of the end doesn't make up for the atrocities. I still walk away from that quest chain feeling bruised and hurt.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

I really enjoy questing through the Forsaken zones - Silverpine and Hillsbrad. The chain with Johnny Awesome, Dumass and that male orc guy (forgot his name) is some of my favorite content in the game. I also love the story telling quest in Badlands - the one where you play each character's point of view on the day Deathwing came to town. Edit: Hmmm, that one may actually be available to both factions now that I think of it. I get them mixed up.

Hope you enjoy your stay on the Horde side! I've played equal time in both factions, but Orgrimmar will always be my home in WoW.

I also think the Southern Barrens is a zone you should check out, especially if you've done the quests down there as Alliance. It's kind of a painful zone, though, if you're Tauren. I'll admit that I get a little choked up when doing the totem quest in Taurajo.

There's the Grizzly Hills quest line where the conflict is against the Horde base's own commander. But you'll need a party or a damn good soloing strategy to finish it.

There are also some good moments in the Horde's Jade Forest quest line, including one where two members of your squad supposedly run off to do "girl stuff" (it makes sense in context.)

Kingslayer Orkus. ^_^ And I'm adding my own thoughts to what I have bolded from Kalhoun's post. The quest chain starts in Hillsbrad with a quest called 'Welcome to the Machine', and like Kalhoun, this chain is one of my absolute favorites in the entire game. The writing is done very well, with an equal mix of humor and drama, and by the end, I was tearing up because of what happens to one of the characters. I won't spoil it for you, though. :)

I liked the stonetalon questline, with going throught all the ranks. Bonus appearance of garrosh hellscream at the end of the questline :p

I find that I always have the most fun going through the Forsaken zones. I feel like they are given pretty small parts to play in the more recent expansion so I learned a ton about them from their starting zones and really got caught up in the story. not to mention the chance to be a quest giver after moving on from silver pine forest was pretty fun. :P

not really a "horde only" thing but I often go to the badlands for "the day deathwing came" and a very important quest line involving black dragons. of course I also loved the plague lands so its a hard choice between the two...

I both like and hate that quest chain. I swear that during the planning for Cata, someone on the staff really hated Tauren.

Imo, Silverpine is a must see zone and you absolutely have to do all the quests in the zone and at least skim the story because it's amazing. Hillsbrad is also fun.

I found the Undead area to have some good and some bad ( And my Little undead is still at level 30 due to Wod coming out)

The tauren have always been a favorite for me and that would be because of the "Find Kyle" quest.

I make it a point to do that quest on any low level alts. Ahab Wheathoof was the first npc that I remember actually responding to a character's presence before you even interacted with him. I always make sure to dance with Kyle after he's fed, too.
