Because that would be terrible for PVP.
Could you imagine arenas? They'd have to ban BM from arenas and BGs. Stampede is as close as we're going to get to that without having to worry about being locked out of stuff.
And of course, PVE wouldn't be very fair either. Hunter could just roll in with their perma 5 pets and solo all the things when its current content. Unless the pets do about as much damage as a level 20's auto attack at max level each.
I understand that it sounds fun at first, but when you really think about mechanics, it wouldn't work out well at all.
This isn't that bad , I still remember Diablo 2 necromancer , solely use summon creature to fight for them in game , it works kinda well .
Except WoW =/= Diablo. Two totally different games.
Diablo is a dungeon crawler based around soloing and no competitve pvp to speak of. You have the option recently to work with other people, but it's not based around it. No pvp, no raids, no 5-man dungeons. Just solo content with the option of playing with others if you wish. Even achievements are soloable.
WoW is an MMORPG based around working and socializing with other people. You have to work with people eventually whether it's achievements, pet battles, 5-man dungeons, 10 - 25-man raids, etc. It also has competitive PVP via battlegrounds, arenas...heck it's even an e-sport these days. There's a crapton more balancing to keep in mind for both PvP and PvE since typically changes are not separate(unfortunately). What effects one will effect the other and it's a royal PITA.
So while I get the idea would be cool, it wouldn't work at all. What works in one doesn't mean it would work well in another especially when mechanics and environment are completely different. It's not as simple as 'hey this worked here, lets use it in a different game'. This is what developers have to consider heavily if they want their games to succeed. So all in all, 5 pets at a time would be way too much, but the suggestion Spirit and I were mentioning would probably work a lot better and balance a bit better since it's not over the top. However, I imagine it would still be a pain in the arse to implement.
