That's exactly why they need a visual upgrade with new looks. They are by far one of the most outdated-looking pets.Pepsi Jedi wrote:Ugg. I would hope they don't waste time on tallstriders. No offense Tor, but those things are ass ugly and I can't remember the last time I actually saw a hunter use one. I'm not sure I've -ever- seen a hunter use one, and I've played since Vanilla.
Okay, but you are just one data point in however many hunters there are. No offense, but really... Blizzard's decision doesn't come down to you. It's one thing if you'd prefer a tallstrider update has less priority than the pets you would rather have. Every person posting their preferences in here is doing that exact thing.Pepsi Jedi wrote:I know appearance is subjective and all. But.. meh. I've never had the urge to run around with an Ostritch. The tallstriders we 'do' have are supposed to be throw backs to the cassowary/Terror birds.
They're just 'meh' to me. I'd run around with a crab before one of those.
I might be weird. I never had any want of the vultures either.
Everything doesn't have to be 'pretty' for me to tame it. I have core hounds and goats and a slime, along side my pretty cats and wolves.
But the ugly flightless fugly chicken's just never appealed.
Heck I'd tame a chicken (El Pullo grande!) before I'd tame one of the tallstriders. lol
You don't seem to get it. Few people use them because of how sorely they need an update. And it would never be "stuff to have stuff" - the tallstriders would be implemented for a new zone or other area. Blizzard has never just said "oh, here's an updated pet model for you hunters!" They have, however, added new models within the zones of a new expansion (see Bats for a great example).Pepsi Jedi wrote:I don't think it's "wrong". If noone uses them, most people dislike them, and hardly anyone wants to see them, then it -is- a waste of time and effort. What's the point? Make things people do like, do want to see and use. Not stuff just to have stuff.
Pepsi Jedi wrote:I mean we have attack beavers that come with one of our abilitys but can't tame beavers. Same with frogs and pythons, but they're supposed to stop that, and maybe not give us a 'new' animal, to spend time and dollars developing a new tall strider appearance, for people to not use?
I doubt you have the numbers for how many people use tallstrider pets. And even if they are among the lowest, there are many unpopular pet families, especially for those with outdated models. Look at Bats again... pre-WoD, I rarely saw them, if at all. Now, I see hunters running around with the new Dire Bat models very often. I think this would be the same with tallstriders.Pepsi Jedi wrote:Are their poly count low and are they unattractive? Yeah. Does anyone use them or do they matter once you're out of the barrens? no. If they were in high demand and everyone used them and wanted a better look it'd be one thing.
Really? What ranks higher on "updated hunter pets" aside from the three or four families others have mentioned? (Bears, Hyenas, Gorillas, maybe Tarantulas...?)Pepsi Jedi wrote:There's just a long list of things that would appeal to a wider audience than them, that need work before they do.

You mean maybe something in the same style as fel in 6.2. In 6.2, fel corruption seems to do different things than before. Maybe a giant black and glowing green core hound subspecies with like those thorny black spikes running over its back, as well as teeth in that style.Wain wrote:Even easier, some demonic-themed regular core hounds. They had fel green ones in the original SMV, so they could easily create a green version of the shiny new model too, as well as maybe legion void-purple
My fav part of HOTS Misha is that its shoulder is higher than its butt.Zulmalakhan wrote:I like how they did misha with saber teeth, honestly I would like to see updated bears with that design in mind ( considering they will update druid bear models AND create new awesome bear form for artifacts there is a high chance we may see new bears in highmountain ) but what I would honestly love is updated wind serpents, also with large saber style fangs like Hakkar, also a gorilla and hyena would be nice but they wouldn't fit the geography of the place that much, unlike in WC3 the broken isles aren't tropical they are more like rocky mountains with forests and valleys, at least from what I saw in the trailer...... Maybe we will get a troll patch in 7.2 to fix that :3 and also give us some skyscreamer and other dinos to tame ( preferably old pterrordax and armored dinos )
Agreed 100%. HoTS Misha, to me, looks like an updated Furblog trying to walk on all fours. I really do not care for the model to be honest.Wain wrote:Hmm, I'm going to be the one dissenting voice, I guess. I kind of think Misha looks like a bear crossed with a worgen, who then took too many steroids.
I do wonder, though, how easily HoTS models can be translated to WoW. Maybe it wouldn't take much. They use the same, or similar, formats and there are instances where they use the *exact* same skin for both games (like the Baneling pet). Clearly there's a difference in art style in many cases - a lot of HoTS models would look too plastic in WoW - but it's interesting to think about. Some things from HoTS might be adaptable as minipets in WoW, for example.

Oh that's neat! I have to ask how to do that now, I'd love to take a closre look at the HotS models but I'm not sure where they're located or how to load them in the program?Wain wrote:BTW, a little off topic but the conversation reminded me: you guys may or may not be aware of this but the latest versions of WoW Model Viewer can view HotS models. They really are a very similar model format.

I'm so sorry! My mistake. I thought it supported it now, but it doesn't. I hope you didn't waste your time lookingVephriel wrote:Oh that's neat! Ahaha no worries Wain! I just took a cursory look. That would have been awesome if it had.Wain wrote:I'm so sorry! My mistake. I thought it supported it now, but it doesn't.
