just as a special note on minions since the dark ranger seems to summon skeletons from that comment, maybe BM and survival hunters and demo locks can get 2 pets out at the same time, seeing as an unholy DK has a talents for 2 pets now :3, also we should now be able to tame undead pets I mean wtf... if MM can summon temp undead to serve then we should also get to tame undead beasts as surv and bm :3

They currently have a "Dark Ranger" talent which has a chance to summon an undead minion. That minion can also tank.

Kind of cool, but kind of odd too. It'll only fit a very few hunters out there. I just think it'll be strange seeing some Pandaren or dwarf hunter summoning skeletons... I don't know. xD

To be honest, I would've rather have had a talent for MM that would summon a pet for a short duration, to tank for them and such. Or even a talent that lets them summon a pet permanently but at a 30% damage reduction... in other words a reverse lone wolf. So people can still choose whether they want a pet or not, but now lone wolf is the default instead.

I love the idea of the Dark Ranger talent, but I definitely agree it seems a little...odd. There's a lot of hunters that wouldn't fit that, so maybe it would work better with a minor glyph to make the summoned creature a beast instead?

That isn't a bad idea at all... but have they ever made glyphs specifically for a talent? I can't remember.

But if they did do something with a glyph, I think that a pet should still be the default, while those who want to be a Dark ranger can pick up a glyph that changes the pet summoned into a skeleton.

Imo the dark ranger should be a fourth spec like how Druids have a fourth spec? And would be fitting of us gaining sylvanas' bow plus maybe would allow us to tame undead beasts like those nerubian flyers since they won't change it to beasts like they did with the silithids or the undead dogs from naxxaramas. And btw who wants Mantids and Nerubians as new pet families? Like the nerubian flyers and the nerubian skitter things from borean tundra. While mantids are the kunchongs.

I for one, welcome our new Dark Ranger overlords... too long have the Marksmen been shackled to the flavorless tree that has been trimmed bare over the years. I welcome the new dark powers open to us, as we delve into new sources of power to defeat the legion.

If we can't tame dragons, we certainly can't tame other sentient races...

Kunchong are not mantids. They are "Mantid Tanks", as in tank-like creatures that the mantids have a symbiotic relationship with.

I'm not even sure what to make of this.

I don't think it really fits hunters at all. It would work better as a glyph that turned your pet into it more then a full talent.

This is why there should have just been a Ranger class of its own, where you could have a dark ranger spec for this sort of thing.

I'm a hunter. Not a necromancer/warlock/death knight.

I'd rather my pet.

I DO understand about the pet thing, but with them really pushing class identiy and diversity, it looks like if a true pet (that we are used to) is a must, so will be BM. :|

Thought they mentioned they'd be adding this as a Talent option? I don't think we are being forced into using a Dark Ranger talent, you can pick it if you preferred. I think its a great idea tbh, adding in great lore flavors via talent choices.

And think about it, they could add in a Shadow Hunter-like talent/s that could include them/their lore? They could even possibly add a Duel Wield Talent for SV hunters as a nod to Rexar? (And yes I'm very aware he is BM :D ). They could add a LOT of really interesting options via talents without forcing them on anyone, nor having to create new classes that then water down others or potentially lack identity.

Yeah, Dark Ranger is just a talent. If you don't think it fits your character, you don't have to take it.

It sounds like every single spec will have basically its own unique talent tree, which is going to end up with some crazy customization. Yeah... the bean-crushers will figure out the Elite Max Spec in a week or less, but for those of us who don't Live By the Law of Noxxic, it should be a lot of fun.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

Off topic, but they did specify they meant Kunchong, Nerubian fliers, and Nerubian spiderlings/skitterers. Those are all aqir type monsters that aren't sentient (like silithid, and apparently ravagers). Which I want.

On topic. I's nice that there's a RP+functionality talent for dark rangers, but the RP aspect would dissuade people who didn't want skeletons (and miss their pets) from the functionality of it. While I think they haven't added minor glyphs that effect specific talents, there are some abilities with glyphs that have been moved to talents. At least glyph of Stampede, there may be others. A dark ranger talent would be a good candidate for a glyph like that.

Yeah, definitely keep in mind how much talents are changing in Legion. There will be lots of spec-specific talents, so you will likely have two other good, MM-appropriate choices if you don't want to be a Dark Ranger. I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of talent based around enhancing Camouflage or becoming more of a sneaky ranger instead of a dark ranger. Things like that.

I'm more excited to see what kind of crazy pet talents they have up their sleeve for BM though.
