"Test Mecha Scorpion", aww yeah.
Sad that shoveltusks, yaks, or mushan aren't tamable (yet.)

Re: Possible new pet models?!
Wow these are all just beautiful. The new whelps and owls... and that saber... please let there be tameable sabers. Does anyone have shots of the new eagle model? My pet eagle Chrysaetos has been by my side since the moment I could tame her back in WoTLK (I literally rolled my hunter to tame one, I just love golden eagles haha) so I'm anxious to see the changes.
Also - tameable pterrodaxes? Could that be a thing? I sure hope so.

Re: Possible new pet models?!
So... so far it's looking like current tameable families can be applied to not only beasts but also mechanicals, undead, elementals, etc. So the fact something isn't a Beast may no longer immediately mean it isn't tameable.
For example, a regular stag is class: Beast (Stag), but the new tameable Ironhorn Buck is: Mechanical (Stag); and a new untameable undead bird called Dread Falke is class: Undead (Bird of Prey). But we also have some mechanicals of class: Mechanical (Mech), so maybe they're for everything mechanical that doesn't make sense to put in an existing pet family (rabbits etc.), or maybe they're still undecided how to organize this.
It does also make me wonder if, say, pets in the undead and elemental classes would require special learning devices, similar to what we saw for mechanicals. Maybe an ability to tame undead creatures would come as default for Forsaken hunters, but other races would have to learn it from an object made by Death Knights. That kind of thing. Hopefully we'll know for sure soon.

Re: Possible new pet models?!
From that link, these really caught my eye:
Fleeting Plainstrider (Will we actually be getting new Tallstriders, possibly? I can't imagine them using the old model.)
Hati (Man, I can't help but hope it uses that wolf boss model but I'm probably going to be very disappointed :s)
And of course the Mecha cat & bears... eee

Re: Possible new pet models?!
So these new stone spider models, I wonder if they are actually not spiders made of stone, but made of shale...

Why is that huge news? It's so far a boring old Draenor hydra. Really, they might as well have grafted Draenor onto Azeroth for all the lack of differentiation between them now.pop wrote:Guys, Hydra guys is this a bug guys, I'm not sure about this Hydra change...

Re: Possible new pet models?!
Seems like since Mech is a mob type like elemental, demon etc, yeah. SO I guess as long as any mech model exist in the original tamable families, we can assume it can be made into tamable. I wonder this can also be widened to other mob types too, and in this case it seems undead, demon, aberration...and maybe in the future, dragonkin? I'm looking at you, Celestial Serpents!Wain wrote:So... so far it's looking like current tameable families can be applied to not only beasts but also mechanicals, undead, elementals, etc.

This makes me wonder if they intend that we won't have a "mech" family, but instead will distribute mechanicals among existing pet families. So the mechanical axebeak would effectively be an Axebeak. In some ways this would be very cool, I love this kind of categorization. In others it may not make sense that a mechanical version of a beast could have the same powers as the true beast. Could a mecha basilisk petrify someone? Could a robot chimaera breathe frost? Maybe we assume part of the mechanical process is to add electrical functions that simulate the beast's powers.
Anyway, the above is still speculation.

and seriously guys, Hydra is now exotic, is this bad or good?

Re: Possible new pet models?!
I think it's probably just a mistake. It's only one mob, and was probably just flagged incorrectly.
Re: Possible new pet models?!
I don't know.. I"m actually all for Hydra being exotic. I mean, just look at them, they are not really just a bear or a cat, they are based on a mythological creature, and actually do look like an exotic pet. I just think aesthetically they fit better as an exotic pet.Equeon wrote:I think it's probably just a mistake. It's only one mob, and was probably just flagged incorrectly.

Re: Possible new pet models?!
We could potentially see class "Demon (Core Hound) Tameable" or something too.
As for the Hydra, I see what you mean now
I agree it's probably a mistake. I think it's extremely unlikely they'd make a class exotic after it's already been broadly tameable. They wouldn't want to effectively take pets away from players who have been using them for ages.
Unless... exotic is changing in definition and no longer means tame-restricted, but instead means fancier powers or something else. I'm sceptical of that, though.

The Survival players who were using Hydras since back in Wrath would be pretty upset, then.pop wrote:I don't know.. I"m actually all for Hydra being exotic. Re: Possible new pet models?!
(Also, sorry, my replies are a bit crankier than usual, because I was the only one of the Petopia/Warcraft Mounts team that didn't get an Alpha invite today and I'm pissed off not because I want to play but because I'm the only one who can extract the model data for both websites (as well as supply Warcraft Pets with their model shots, too) and I'm having to go to other lengths to get a database copy so I can
)

Re: Possible new pet models?!
I really hope not. They worked fine enough as non exotics, there's no real reason to do this. It's gotta be an error.pop wrote:I don't know.. I"m actually all for Hydra being exotic. LOL you are using a Hydra as your avatar, yup definitely one of the people that would get annoyed if this change goes live lolIckabob wrote:I really hope not. I don't know. Some if not most of them would be pretty much be pretty upset being a melee by now, if they weren't already.Equeon wrote:The Survival players who were using Hydras since back in Wrath would be pretty upset, then.pop wrote:I don't know.. I didn't know Avatars had an effect on what someone posts.pop wrote:LOL you are using a Hydra as your avatar, yup definitely one of the people that would get annoyed if this change goes live lolIckabob wrote: I really hope not. But in all seriousness and considering this is Alpha it is most likely mislabeled. I would take major changes like this with a grain of salt...not to mention the forum rage that would happen.
Re: Possible new pet models?!
Because that means the poster really like hydra, so that's why they use it as an avatar, and the changes to hydra might effect them?Zalani wrote:I didn't know Avatars had an effect on what someone posts.pop wrote:LOL you are using a Hydra as your avatar, yup definitely one of the people that would get annoyed if this change goes live lolIckabob wrote: I really hope not.
