Found out what the dog-hydras' name is based on!

Assuming they're tied to Vrykul and Helheim. Norse Cerberus I suppose.

So, I went looking at the new wolves eyes in Photoshop out of curiosity. I like the model personally, but it seems to be that the eye issues is due to the white highlight in it. Which is causing a bit of that sideways eye look from farther away. Excuse my bad photoshop skills but it probably could be helped if they fixed the eye a bit.

I can't wait to tame a Stegodon. Now if they'd just give us pterodactyls, my dinosaur team would be complete! Muhahahahaha!

Please tell me those are actually revamped Northrend Worgs! An electric blue SKOLL version of that would make me so happy!

Really not feeling those feathered raptors. I personally see them as an ugly mix between the Teroclaws and the Draenor Raptors, but in a bad way. I would've preferred more colors to the Teroclaw chick, especially that orange and blue. Still, they have a minipet version that looks adorably ugly, and I'm cool with that.

That wolf hydra though, that ticks my interest in ugly beasts like no tomorrow. I hate having multiples of the same pet type, but I'd totally use him with Chimaeron. More specifically, I want that brown one.

The new wolf model looks absolutely badass. I want the white one.

Wow, the wolf hydra and new white wolf look pretty great. I always wanted my own Cerberus (Kurken only has two heads!)

I've gotta say I'm disappointed in the feathered raptors. It's like they couldn't decide between a "traditional" scaly look and a "realistic" feathered look, so we got the worst of both worlds. And is that a big beak they have?

Compare to these:

But feathered raptors aside, I personally am very happy with the new creatures, since between these and the new tameables, I will hardly have enough stable space anyway.

The feathered raptors definitely are a little goofy looking, but I think they're kind of cute because of it. They remind me of muppets almost. They have a sort of Jim Henson vibe. I admit I'm mostly just thrilled whenever something comes in a purple/green colour.

I think you're right. On reflection I think they'd be a really good fit, as long as the family was renamed to something more reflective of their nature. The Omen/Kurken and Drakeadon models were never really "core hounds" anyway.

Bambu already pointed out the similarity in name to Garmr, the Norse guardian dog of the Underworld. So it seems to be a mystical, monstrous guardian hound with multiple heads. So that family is actually a really good fit.

Image

The Kurken/Omen model is furry and more like a true dog, which fits the doggy look:

Image

While the original core hound has horns, which fits the horns on this thing (as does the drakeadon but that seems to be a genetically modified organism so doesn't really count ;) ) :

Image

Plus the broken chain crap around its neck seems to allude to the core hound bling, so maybe this is already what they're considering.

Anyway, that's my thought on the matter. :) I think the Core Hounds family should include this creature and be renamed to suit the "mystical guard hound" nature of the group.

SpiritBinder wrote: My other issue and with many of the models so far are the eyes, they are just so important to me.
The eyes on the wolf almost look like that of a Bird. It's iris aim out in opposite directions, which wolves can't even do, they are a predators with forward facing eyes.
If they moved the pupil forward a bit it would make the world of difference imo.
I think that's actually an optical illusion. I'm pretty sure the pupils do point forward but they've added a reflection spot on them that makes the forward section pale and harder to see. So in small images you get the impression that it has a slit pupil staring out sideways like a mutant chinese crested dog (*shudder*). In reality I don't think it's that bad. Check out the site's image and maybe you can see it better:

Ah yeah, that's clearer.

I really like the model, but I also feel like it needs more variation to it. I mean, it's fine on the black and white ones (it'd be nice to have a black wolf that doesn't have huge gray patches) but the brown ones just look kinda ... pot-dyed.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

Those cerberus dogs look like a reskin of the new draenor hydra model, im sure they put them in that group. They look amazing and im sure we will get a boss in a future hell raid.

Gah I hope and pray those Cerberus dogs are in the hydra group rather than core hounds. I play by and I'm still tired of BM getting all the best skins/animals. -sigh- it's on the draenor hydra schedule, so a girl can hope.

Those hydra hounds are nice but really TO ME need shorter necks. I don't care for them with those long spindly necks.

Hehe, thanks! I agree with them going into Core Hounds for the whole "guardian of the underworld" vibe, maybe even renaming Core Hounds to something like "Hellhounds" and add those Skelemental Hounds you see in Firelands as well?

Actually, what they also remind me of is these guys:

Image

Bit of hair around the neck, leathery body, horns. The side horns are even reminiscent of core hounds. The main difference (aside from a vast leap in art quality!) is that one has just one head instead of three. Maybe they all (one-, two- and three-headed planar and demonic hounds) belong together in a sort of occult hound group. I still can't think of a catchy name though.

Agreed, I REALLY do not want these new Cerberus dogs in the corehound family what so ever. I want them to go into the hydra family so everyone can use them.

They hydra dogs are very interesting. Didn't like them at first but they are kinda starting to grow on me. Not sure that I will actually use them, would like to see their animation in game. I really like the WoD hydras, however their faces have always felt really squished and awkward to me, depending on how they handle these canine versions, they may be a nice alternative. Hopeful that even though they are on they hydra skeleton they can fix the flatness of the hydra's face and make it look more like a canine's muzzle.

As to the feathered raptors.... ugh. If it were closer to April I would think they were just a joke. Blizzard knows how to make amazing creatures (and okay you have to take some things like when certain models were made into consideration before you start point out some of the really funny looking models). I've never seen anything design wise that made me step back and go 'what were they thinking?!' until this. Right now all I see is that they stuck some feathers on some poor raptor and made its muzzle into a beak. I am all for the idea of a raptor that is feathered-but fix the face! If it is a beak, make it more beak like, taper it down a bit more, blend it into the face so that it looks more believable! Right now it looks like a snout covered in duck tape. Love the idea but, execution is not what I would have thought they would have done. /end whiny rant

Also a question: Have any of the following been confirmed as tameable in the Alpha yet, or even seen running around in the wild?

ImageImageImage
I really think these are my favorite things next to the mana sabers and do not want to get my hopes up only to have them crushed again. Such as with this guy.......

At least one of the new Autumn-coloured Draenor wolf colours is in Broken Isles. I saw them not half an hour ago, running around as regular beasts in Val'sharra. I didn't bother trying to tame one, as apparently taming a level 100 beast at level 100 is "level too high". I assume this is a bug! I would guess the other colours are there.

And it would be a good place for the tan wolf, for sure :) If they're determined to use Draenor models in Azeroth and vice versa. :/

There are plenty of Panda-era stags in that zone too, which means it's a good spot to finally add the missing purple colour.
