Man, I'm so glad they fixed the back. I admit, I kinda think the goatee is cute, myself.... now that it doesn't look like it's got some kind of horrible spine deformity, I'm fine with them. Even the 'new black'... it's truer to real bear black (which is warmer) than the old one, so I don't find it that bothersome.

Can't wait to drag ol' Bruno out of the stable.

...hey, d'ya think they'll ever make those zombears in Krasarang tamable? Someone remind them!

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

Unless they switch the spirit model over to the new model, maybe not. But who knows?

Oh mah gerd. So excited I can barely type!
I can live with that new model. Yes I wish the black was true black but I'll happily accept what is given now that the back is fixed.

Animated comparison of the backs:

A big improvement :)

Note also the tail seems a bit thicker and stumpier. I think it looks better like that too :)

That difference is incredible, honestly they look ten times better from that and the other small fixes alone. :) I'm much happier with them as a whole (even though I admit I'd still like to see a few things further tweaked). I really appreciate that they took the time to look into the models and fix them up!

Looks like it's tail has definitely had a little trim too, much more truer to the original :)

I've swapped the fixed model Petopia bear images in over the old ones.

Unfortunately I couldn't use the same pose they were using previously, since the new skeleton causes ear clipping in that pose. This isn't a criticism, as it would barely be noticeable in the game, it's just bad when your picture freezes on that :)

I also had trouble selecting a closed-mouth pose as there's some odd "cut cheeks" kind of thing going on (think, the Heather Ledger's version of the Joker, minus make-up). It's not bad, but again weird when your images is focused on that. This may have been in the previous model version and I hadn't noticed. It may also be exaggerated in WoW Model Viewer.

I hope the final pose worked out ok.

Thanks Wain! I think those new poses look great. :)

The black is moving in the right direction, but I'm gonna be that person that's attached to the original one and I still don't feel they've done it justice. The problem is they're using a very warm palette for these instead of the cooler one from the originals.

Now, I realize the original diseased black bear isn't very much of a "black" either, but that cool blue hue is one of the reasons I love it so much, it's very bleak and fitting. If I were trying to make a new model in the same spirit as that one, this would be my attempt:

Now that took me about 5 minutes to recolour so I hope they might consider looking at the skins and doing some additional tweaking, but at least they're headed in the right direction! Even if they don't make the colouring exactly how it was in the original, I don't think it would hurt to go a darker black (though hopefully without desaturating the entire skin >>;)

Anyways, I do really love the updates they've done already though, the tail and the beard and the back have made a huge difference in preserving a little bit of the old feel. I just think the colours are the last thing they could improve. *crossing my fingers*

You're far from being "that person," Veph. <3 I'm certainly not completely happy with the new model as it is - I wouldn't want Ursa to have it. It's just a LOT better than where it started and I appreciate that we're getting some dev support on that front.

I don't want to seem ungrateful, since I am glad they're listening, but it would be really nice if they listened a little more. ;)

What a relief! I really, really didn't want to abandon my bear after having him for years. This is definitely in the right direction, and it's also great to see the devs listening to us. Because of this, the change to Hati and the challenge tames, I'm feeling rather more positive. There are still issues, but they're willing to listen, and that's the really important thing I'm taking away from this.

I agree with Kalliope in that you're not being that person. If so I am going to be that person along with you. I 100% agree that the diseased black bear still isn't to the color "black" that is true too the original model as it still has too many of the burgundy-maroon-brownish hues to me. I do really love the new model though and can live with Rabid's color if it's not fixed (still PLENTY of time & fingers crossed) by launch. Their simply fixing the poor thing's back made it livable for me.

I do hope they change the bears' colors more truer to the original models or like the moose's colors instead of being so drab.

I got all frazzled when I saw this thinking they fixed it. Then I actually read the post. Killing me, Veph! :D Its good though!

I wish I was gooder at photoshopping. I'd like to change the claws and muzzle darker like the original too just to see.
