The Canyon Cloudwing hippogryphs are currently tameable as Birds of Prey! They're in western Suramar (around Anora Hollow, not far east from those Manashell stony turtles).
I presume this is a mistake but it'll be fun to try out for now! They make awesome pets
Admittedly, they're *way* more 'Birds Of Prey' than parrots and toucans are, but it still stretches the family a bit thin and wide for me.
I *would* love to have them be tameable, though. They're gorgeous. So adding them to birds of prey would definitely be an option, if not as appealing an option as making 'Rylaks' into Chimeras and putting the 'Rylak' family power on gryphs instead.

If hippogryphs did become officially tameable then they could easily form a family with gryphons. Aside from the horse's arse and the antlers they have a lot in common.
They would be a more interesting exotic family than mana sabers (which could just be included with cats). "Gryphs" could include hippogryphs and grpyhons. Windriders (I'm never going to call them 'wyverns', since they're more like manticores) should also be tameable, but I don't know which family to put them in. If there wasn't a particular beast called chimaera, that would be a better name than 'gryphs' and windriders could be included. But Chimaera get two families, go figure.
I wonder how many potential pets have been missed for lack of a good family name.
Aw, I really love the look of them as a hunter pet. It's a shame it's most likely unintentional because I agree they'd make a great new family! (better than the unnecessary mana sabers which could easily just be added into cats or spirit beasts if needed, we have enough cats, we really don't need an additional branched off family)

There's probably some truth in this
And yeah, Windriders is a much better name for the "wyverns that aren't wyverns", and if they resemble anything from mythology are more like lion-headed manticores. And you're right, they do have a lot of simliarities to chimaeras, just with one head:
Ahhh, I wish these would be tamable...I remember when I first started playing wow and I saw a Blue Hippogryph in the wild...beastlored it in the hopes that I could tame it...

That and 'chimera' literally means an animal that's composed of parts of different species. Like gryphons, manticores, hippogryphs (the mythological ones too), peryton, classical chimera, owlbears, and crocoducks. Ironically, wow chimaeras' parts aren't as distinctively stuck together from other animals.
