Older Challenge Tames

Unread post by Delphinie »

I have not seen a topic on this and would like to know if older challenge tames are affected by some specs not having the traps anymore?

I'd imagine the Pandaren tracking tames would require you to swap to Survival to trap them long enough to tame... Maybe if you're fast, you can nab them, since tame beast is about 5 seconds at the moment?

If you are able to put the flare ahead of them, and start taming them as soon as they appear, then you'll be fine. Tame Beast os about 5 secs now.

That won't work for the exotic rares. Valnaaros has the right of it, though. :)

You can just use Binding Shot instead of a trap. That's what I've been using for Treble.

Thank you guys for all the feedback on this. I do run mostly as BM and that was why I had questions about it.

Yeah, binding shot works ok. The one issue I've had is that it requires the NPC to move a certain distance from the arrow before it's stunned and I found if I didn't place the shot and the flare just right then the fast-moving mob would often move just out of range of the flare before it got stunned. Then I'd have to wait for the shot to come off CD and try and find where the invisible mob had go to since :P But it's quite possible to get it to work.

What about Wyvern Sting? Isn't it supposed to works like Freezing Trap? Both tooltips says "incapacitating them" in their description.

As a reminder, shooting pets that are lower level than you, even just to CC them, can sometimes work out very poorly. :/

I haven't worked with wyvern sting so I'm not sure if it's doing damage on the beta or not. But it is a good point! At least binding shot is damage free.

I actually used Wyvern Sting on the exploding sheep in Elwynn and I didn't cast another shot afterwards. It doesn't do damage, just puts it to sleep for x amount of time (I don't remember how long, I don't look at this stuff).

Make a macro so you only do the CC and not accidentally shoot them? That's what I did to retame the Spirit Owl at least

Ahhh, that's good - wyvern sting used to do damage and then put the target to sleep, so I'm glad that changed at some point.

Well that is awesome so wyvern sting as long as it stays they way it is now in legion would be on of the tools for taming the old exotic challenge tames. Than you guys for all this info, it sets my heart at ease.

Wyvern Sting's damage part was removed a long time ago, apparently back in March 2013 from what I can see on Wowhead.
