Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
Yeah I was thinking the same Rwar, they I may fit in this family (they are creature with wings), but then they not overly Gryphon looking due to them not having feathers.
I think they would be a great addition, even if not in this family but added in some other way down the road.

Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
I hesitated to add wyverns because we so far only know for sure that gryphons are part of it and they have feathery bird wings. Wyverns have leathery bat or chimaera wings. Maybe they will be added and owlcats won't, but I feel the latter is more fitting to be grouped with gryphons even if they can't actually fly, as they're things with bird faces and beastly but feather-winged bodies.
But anything is possible at this stage. If they can claim in 7.1 that falcosaurs are birds, despite not having anything that resembles a wing, then anything could be grouped with anything.

In fairness to the bird claim for falcosaurs, they're obviously based on theropods and birds descended from those.

I feel like if they're adding gryphons, which are such an iconic alliance symbol/mount, it seems it would only be right to add their horde counterpart in wyverns. They'd strike a nice balance. At least that's my thinking.

The mount is a wolf/wyvern with feathers, it uses the wyvern's skeleton and animations from what I've seen, I think it's a bigger stretch for them to give us a tamable Druid form (owlcats) than wyverns.
Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
True, though velociraptors and tyrannosaurs are as well and are far closer structurally to what falcosaurs are. It's really weird that the quest text indicates they can fly, and that their young are classed as flying minipets. They're no more likely to fly because they have feathers than is a dancer wearing a feather boaAlbain wrote:In fairness to the bird claim for falcosaurs, they're obviously based on theropods and birds descended from those.

Oh man, if hippogryphs are included... I mean, I'm not gonna let myself get excited yet because a) plans can change and b) there's no guarantee on hippogryphs anyway, but if they are...
Thanks for finding it, Cernunnous! <3

The gryphons seem to all share a similar model, they just don't all have the same animations (last time I checked). I expect that they could just copy over the standing/running animations over, so they aren't hovering all the time.Lupen202 wrote:The corrupted would be such a cool rare for Legion, fitting the theme and everything... One can only hope as I'd love to tame one too.
Edit: One thing though... I wonder if they'll stand by our side or hover. Most of the (old) wild versions seem to hover, which is a shame, as I quite like the standing animation for the hippo & gryphon mounts. It's nice not having their wings flapping everywhere & clipping into your character model like the Jikun model.

What a great find! I stumbled by the WoWHead newspiece and was so rooted by it I had to re-read it after coffee to make sure I was not just seeing things x)

Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
After all these years, this old dwarf can finally get a gryphon pet. Hell yes!
Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
Updated my previous post with owlcats and windriders. Also added the spectral gryphon model, which has an unused mount version. Maybe it, and the windrider equivalent, could be spirit beasts.

The only issue with Wyverns is that they are sentient. They are all capable of speaking Orcish and Taurahe.

And Hippogryphs speak Darnassian, Common, and other languages. All 3 are listed as 'intelligent' , quoting the wiki here:Valnaaros wrote:The only issue with Wyverns is that they are sentient. They are all capable of speaking Orcish and Taurahe.
"Like hippogryphs and gryphons, wyverns are intelligent creatures — as smart as any humanoid"
Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
My only pet peeve is seeing a horde with a gryphon pet and maybe the alliance with wyverns. But that's just me and it shouldn't let others don't get the pets they want.

Re: [New Pet Family] Class hall mount bonus?
The way he worded it made me wonder. We've been taming beasts with wings forever, so there has to be something special about these winged beasts since they are special unlocks. I think the "intelligent" creatures would certainly be unique circumstance that would make them special.
Whatever direction/reasoning they go for, I just hope it includes skyscreamers and/or dread ravens.

I said it once and will say it again. I will take time off work and camp NON STOP for a spectral gryphon /wyvern. *drools* I totally would.
