Collector's Edition reveal

Unread post by Vephriel »

Is anyone else as disappointed as I am with the physical Collector's Edition this expansion? :(

I always collect them, but this will be the first year I don't buy it. They've taken out the main things that made it feel worthwhile to me. When I'm buying a physical CE, I expect to own physical items. They're not including an art book, a mouse pad, or even a CD soundtrack. Instead we get a digital download code, a novella that will probably be available online after to read, and then some medallion coin. The coin thing would have been cool as an extra but I'm not going to spend $100 on an edition that gives me less than the old ones did. I loved the art books, they were the highlight of the box for me.

I don't know, I'm just really bummed out about this because I wanted to buy it, I buy the physical CE every expansion, and it will bother me to have a gap in my collection. But I see no reason to spend that amount of money on this one.

Lack of an art book and other items make it seem like you would basically be buying a pretty box to look at. Not worth it to me

Yeah, when I think of having a physical collector's edition of an item, I think of owning physical, exclusive things. Most of the things included in this one are digital, or will be available digitally. It's such a cop out. :/ They really dropped the ball on this.

I'm properly going to get it anyway as the OCD Autistic side of me will feel bad if I have a gap.

If I can be honest I think the art books have been a bit lacking in the last few CE. I think they will bring out a art book separately like they did with Overwatch.

It's going to be $145 Australian. I put a deposit down at EB Games some time ago, on the faith that it would be the same quality as previous box sets, and I own every one of them except for the original. Tomorrow I'm going to cancel it, even if I lose the deposit, and cut my losses.

I never cared for the mouse pad, as it's something I wouldn't use, but the art book was gorgeous. I don't want the medallion, as things like that seem like just kitsch to me, something you might keep next to your collection of Franklin Mint royal wedding commemoration plates. And I haven't read pulp fantasy since about 1991 and am not interested in fancy editions of the novellas (which will likely be online at a later date if you want the story). It honestly feels like this was a 'what do we have lying around that we can throw into the box' edition, like the kind of promo bags you get a fairs - in Australia we call them show bags, I don't know what you call them in the USA - which have a theme and a lot of crap you'll never use again.

Wow okay I've been humming and harring over this today and I just looked at the price for the digital version is like already $110 and I'm tempted but I'll see what Mightape's pricing is, they tend to be better then EB is (at least here)

Ya'll remember when expacks cost $50? This one is $80 that's like $20 cheaper then a full game XD

Edit: God it sounds like I'm defending it, i'm not XD

I believe what you are calling "show bags" is called "swag" in the US. And I think what you call fairs are called cons in the US. I'm not certain, the only conventions I've been to are woodworking conventions. Where we didn't get any swag.

My guild leader gets all the collector's editions, but for some sort of obsession, not because of the artbooks. Which would be the only reason I'd get one. I used to buy monster manuals just for the art in them. :P

Ah, thanks :) I looked it up and found out that what we call 'show bags' are apparently a uniquely Aussie thing. At our shows (like what you'd call state fairs, maybe) they have themed bags, aimed at kids mostly, but also adults. Many filled with toys or candies from a particular theme or manufacturer, and also a lot of plastic junk that you'd never use again. Basically, anything they can find that fits the theme and will pad out the bag as cheaply as they can ;)

Sorry for the off topic diversion ;)

Oh wow that's disappointing! I have gotten everyone since BC and pre ordered like wain at EB ages ago assuming this one would be the same...I'll probably get it anyway (like cow i'll be OCD annoyed at a gap in my collection - also a librarian thing too) but without an art book and mouse pad (i actually use mine lol) it does seem like a jip :(
